Since its initial release in 1989, Trajan has risen to international popularity as a distinctive and versatile display typeface. First released as a Roman, and later a contemporary and stylish sans.

For many years license plates in Italy have been using a quite peculiar sans serif monospace typeface with slightly rounded corners and a geometric, condensed skeleton. These letterforms have been used by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini as an inspiration for Targa, published as the first-ever Zetafonts typeface in 2003. Almost twenty years later, Francesco Canovaro has brought the project under scrutiny for a complete redesign, keeping its inventions, solving its issues, and making it into a versatile multi-weight typeface. The original type family has been developed in two subfamilies: Targa Pro Mono (which keeps the original monospace widths) and Targa Pro Roman (with proportional widths), both in five weights plus italics. The original family also included the handmade version Targa Hand which has been paired with a new Targa Pro Stencil to allow for more versatility and choice for display use. All weights of Targa Pro feature an extended latin character set covering over 200 languages, as well as a full set of Open Type features including positional numbers, alternates and stylistic sets. Halfway between postmodern appropriation of utilitarian design and rationalist design, Targa Pro sits comfortably at the crossroads between artificial nostalgia and modernist functionality, ready to surprise the user with its versatility and quirky Italian flavour.

Goudy Trajan Pro is based on the drawings by F.W. Goudy of his rendition of the capital letters inscribed on the Trajan column in Rome, rather than on his subsequent metal type, Trajan (Title), released in 1930. Goudy Trajan Pro includes almost 1500 glyphs in each of three weights, including: uppercase, alternates, swash caps, small caps, vertically centered small(er) caps, dozens of fleurons, and much more. Supports Latin, Cyrillic and modern Greek scripts. Many thanks to Krassen Krestev, Sergiy Tkachenko, and Adam Twardoch for their suggestions for improving the Cyrillic glyphs; and to Alex Sheldon for his suggestions for swash caps and improved OpenType features.

Harlan is from another place and time. Inspired by the Baltimore bar "WC Harlan", which in turn was inspired by the old candle-lit bars of France, the tucked-away osterias of Italy, and the antique books and journals one might find in a patron's hand. Originally published by OurType, Dan Milne’s Tasman has found a new home at Retype. Milne first conceived Tasman as a typeface for newspapers. This influenced the proportions and look of the face considerably: the goal was to keep the personality as warm and playful as possible without losing the credible tone required to deliver all kinds of news. A sturdy, warm type family that is neither mechanical nor fragile. It borrows its name from Abel Janszoon Tasman (1603–1659), a Dutch seafarer, explorer, and merchant who mapped parts of Australia in 1642, including Van Diemen’s Land (now known as Tasmania). Tasman’s primary purpose is an unbiased presentation of information; it strives for neutrality over elegance. Its characters are sturdy and unambiguous, sporting strong serifs, punctuation, and diacritics, as well as generously sized small caps and hybrid figures. Rationalized letterforms give the face enough robustness to withstand the stress of screen applications and laser printing. The figures’ three-quarter x-height makes them considerably larger than traditional oldstyle numerals, yet they still integrate with the lowercase much better than lining figures do. Although initially intended for newspapers, Tasman’s somewhat corporate, objective appearance also makes it an excellent candidate for digital and print magazines, websites, annual reports, and corporate identities. Tasman is a suite of feature-rich OpenType fonts fully equipped to tackle complex, professional typography. The character set includes small caps, fractions, case-sensitive forms, bullets, arrows, special quotes, and nine sets of numerals. Besides standard Latin, its extensive character set supports Central European, Baltic, and Turkish languages.

Marzano is a geometric sans serif font that's ideal for headlines, logos, text and advertising, the name comes from the ever so sweet and wonderful San Marzano plum tomato grown in Italy. Marzano includes stylistic alternates, small caps, swash caps, case sensitive forms, old style figures, tabular figures, small caps figures, small caps old style figures, small caps question mark and exclamation point. Since a lot of people today like to type in code using the copyright and trademark symbols in place of a C or R we've decided, the first time to offer two registered trademark symbols, one that's the same size as the copyright symbol and an alternate version that's reduced in size and sits at the caps height. Marzano Slant is set at 6 degrees and is perfect for when you want the look of an italic but don't have the horizontal space in your page design for a full 12 degree italic. While designing Trajan, Carol Twombly was influenced by the style of carved letters produced by the Romans during the first century AD. Twombly completed the design, adding numerals and punctuation, as well as a bolder version to allow for text emphasis. Most importantly, her interpretation of the ancient style resulted in a font family whose clarity and beauty come across in modern printed materials.

Opinion varies regarding the role of Claude Garamond (ca. 1480–1561) in the development of the Old Face font Garamond. What is accepted is the influence this font had on other typeface developments from the time of its creation to the present. Garamond, or Garamont, is related to the alphabet of Claude Garamond (1480-1561) as well as to the work of Jean Jannon (1580–1635 or 1658), much of which was attributed to Garamond. In comparison to the earlier Italian font forms, Garamond has finer serifs and a generally more elegant image. The Garamond of Jean Jannon was introduced at the Paris World’s Fair in 1900 as Original Garamond, whereafter many font foundries began to cast similar types. Morris F. Benton’s Garamond appeared in 1936 and is based on the forms of Jean Jannon, which already displayed characteristics of the Transitional style.

Forged to be as imposing as a Norse horde ready to stampede into battle, Works great in all caps which it was initially designed to. I designed the lowercase characters to match really well with each other and the uppercase, so it works well in title case. Plus it has a great set of looking numbers and loads of extras. The Englishman William Caslon (1672–1766) first cut his typeface Caslon in 1725. His major influences were the Dutch designers Christoffel van Dijcks and Dirck Voskens. The Caslon font was long known as the script of kings, although on the other side of the political spectrum, the Americans used it as well for their Declaration of Independence. The characteristics of the earlier Renaissance typefaces are only barely detectable. The serifs are finer and the axis of the curvature is almost or completely vertical. The overall impression which Caslon makes is serious, elegant and linear. Next to Baskerville, Caslon is known as the embodiment of the English Baroque-Antiqua and has gone through numerous new interpretations, meaning that every Caslon is slightly different. American Type Founders presented a Caslon in 1905 which is true to the forms of the original. This font is relatively wide and comes complete with small caps and old style figures.

Minion is a contemporary type family created by Robert Slimbach and released by Adobe Originals. Since its earliest release, Minion has proven to be a versatile typeface for text and display, used widely in books and in editorial design where readability and elegance are necessities.

For decades, the Persian-born Naghi Naghashian has been working as a graphic designer and illustrator in Germany. Arian™ is his first commercial Arabic typeface. Named after his mother, Naghi created the Arian typeface family after years of systematically analyzing the Arabic script. Marian Churchland was born in Canada in 1982, and was raised on a strict diet of fine literature and epic fantasy video games.
