Goudy Type was designed by Frederic Goudy for ATF in 1916. He endeavored to create a lively design with some brush-lettering qualities. In his words, he believed he was still attempting to ‘find himself’ as a designer. Thirty years later he was shown the design and could hardly recollect its creation. Steve Matteson has digitized Goudy Type to preserve its place in typographic history.

Although many pieces of sheet music used standardized backgrounds and metal type for their titles and information, there are hundreds of songs with innovative illustrations and clever typography beckoning potential buyers with their cover art. The Kolo family was designed by Paul Shaw, inspired by the lettering of Koloman Moser, Gustav Klimt, Alfred Roller and other members of the Secession, Vienna’s turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau movement. WEG* font is an experimental type system where legibility isn’t the focus. This project studies how glyphs are constructed and how their ductus can be modified. I explored how far I can move the limits if I don’t worry about the legibility. In Weg, letters are built by a single line that connects them, along with words and paragraphs.
