Gábor Kóthay in Hungary has developed an archaic identity largely based upon lettering from a rare Type Specimen of the Jesuit Academy Press of Tyrnavia (1773). They have developed many baroque style typefaces of Hungarian derivation. Gábor wanted an authentic handwriting revival from that age as well. La Danse is a 'facsimile' font, based on the manuscript of an inventory found in the original Tyrnavia specimen. The manuscript was written in an archaic Latin alphabet therefore some modern interpretations have been inserted.

The character of Sopran is expressed by long serifs that replace traditional drops. Contrast is distributed from monolinear in hairline and all the way to the extreme in the black style. F .H. Ernst Schneidler, type designer and teacher, originally designed Schneidler Old Style in 1936 for the Bauer foundry. Stempel Schneidler is based on the typefaces of Venetian printers from the Renaissance period and possesses their grace, beauty, and classical proportions. Ciseaux was inspired and is dedicated to the art of paper cutting. Early paper cutting artists were often royalty, but it soon became a folk art practiced by commoners whose cutouts decorated their homes. By the seventeenth century it had spread throughout the world. The Japanese called it Mon-kiri, the German's Scherenschnitte and Turkey even boasted a guild devoted to the art form. In Poland the designs were traditionally symmetrical and often used layers of colors to form pictorial collages. When Russian invaders confiscated scissors, villagers were found to cut their intricate designs with sheep shears! The art form later developed into cutting out elaborate designs of nature scenes and people, celebrating special occasions and even decorating legal documents. Ciseaux letterforms mimic paper cutting art in its shapes with a rather loose and almost joyous rhythm. The overall effect is somewhat earthy and natural yet it has an element of sophistication that cannot be ignored. Lunanic is a geometric novelty typeface family with a touch of graffiti. The letters are formed from a circle with a notch or nick taken out, a shape that reminds me of a partial lunar eclipse. Half of the family have the nick on the left and half on the right. The faces are monospaced and so tightly spaced that there is no space between most of the letters so the filled styles cannot be used alone without tweaking. There are several ways to tweak them to make them readable: adjacent letters can be colored differently, the characters spacing can be increased, or an outlined style can be layered on top of the filled letters. The family does not have a true lower case. Most of the characters in the lower-case slots are alternates for those on the upper-case keys and they can be mixed in whatever way the user finds best. Praxis™ was designed in 1976 by Gerard Unger for the German technology corporation Dr.-Ing Rudolf Hell. Praxis is the sans serif counterpart to Demos, another early digital type designed by Unger, who is an accomplished Dutch typographer and teacher. Gothic Round was first introduced as wood type by the George Nesbitt Co. in 1838. The font is a softened variation of a standard heavy Gothic typeface. The style evokes a much more recent history of the 1960s and 70s and can be seen in such places as donut shops and on children's toys as well as inspiration for such fonts as VAG Rounded. Gothic Round has not previously been available as a digital font until now. The font was digitized by Miguel Sousa from a wide variety of historical sources, including visits to the Cary Collection at RIT (Rochester, NY), WNY Book Arts Center (Buffalo, NY) and the Hamilton Wood Type Museum (Two Rivers, WI). A lot of times, an old trick is better than a bagful of new ones — all you might actually need would be a good, reliable font family with soul, providing that comforting, familiar feel. This is where Forrest comes in: a type family born out of a lifelong passion for digging into old archives of fonts, in search for that good ol’ type — simple, honest, made with love. The 1928 logotype for Sertal Toiletries consisted of a stylized woman's head, a very snaky S, and five fine, fat deco caps spelling out the rest of the brand name. From these five clues, designer Nick Curtis divined the rules" of the typeface and drew a complete alphabet, including a lower case. The result: ITC Scram Gravy. The finished product could be described as Bodoni on steroids. Tight curls in characters like the 'm,' 'r' and 'y' soften the lower case and give the design a light-hearted flavor. ITC Scram Gravy takes its name from one of many running gags in the screwball comic strip "Smokey Stover," which had folks alternately splitting their sides and scratching their heads from 1935 to 1973. Those familiar with Bill Holman's strip will recall Smokey's car, the Foomobile, and one of his famous nonsense declarations: "No foo-ling, that scram gravy ain't wavy.""

First off, Slivowitz is written with a v (SlivoVitz), rather than a w, but I liked it better with a w. Slivowitz is a plum brandy from Eastern Europe. My father used to be an international truck driver and he often had to go to Eastern Europe. He took all kinds of ‘western’ goods with him to give away (plastic bags, beer, cigarettes - remember, Eastern Europe at the time was still communist!). He always came back with bottles of Slivowitz. I never tasted it, as I was too young, but I liked the name and I decided to name this font after a fond memory! Slivowitz is an easy-going handwritten script font - it looks good on fashion items, book covers and fancy magazines, but greeting cards will look just as great.
