I happened to mention to the proprietor of an antique barn near here that I'd be interested in any old typewriters she happened to come across. A conversation ensued, the proprietor withdrew into a back room, and she re-emerged with an old handwritten letter, dated 18 Sept. 1825 and spanning nearly three pages. The letter, penned by Samuel Clarke, a Princeton, Mass., pastor, sought donations for the victims of an accident at sea. I thought his script unique, stylistic, and definitely something worth digitizing, so I bought the old letter and took it home. Had to come up with several uppercase characters to round out the set, but the results seem good and proper. Full release has complete character set.

This Art Nouveau typeface was created around the turn of the 20th century by the Bauer Type Foundry in Germany. Nicolas Cochin (not to be confused with another font named simply "Cochin") was originally designed by Georges Peignot in the early 20th Century and was based on engraved letters of the 17th Century artist Charles Nicholas Cochin. Many foundries including Lanston released versions in the 1920s. Several digital versions can now be found, but none have kept the irregular details of the metal type which include strokes that cross over each other as if hand drawn (see letters K & y). The new Lanston digitization is the only digital version to retain the idiosyncratic treatment which makes the metal type so alluring. The Opentype version included an expanded Central European character set as well as ligatures, alternates, fractions, superior/inferior numerals (the Italic also has swash characters).

Umbero is an experimental geometric blackletter. Umbero was inspired by modern street art (by artists like Pokras Lampas, RETNA, etc.), gothic script and constructivism. It has an ornate and twitchy structure: you can not find two similar letters. Capital letters have even more complex structure, then lowercase, to the extent that you can even use them as initial letters with a different, more calm font if you want to achieve a medieval stylization in a contemporary way. Get Umbero if you need something extra for your design. Or vice versa use it as a starting point of your work. It’s a perfect choice for the mystic or contemporary logos, headlines, oversize typography, branding, identity, website design, album art, covers, posters, advertising, etc.

Germany has a strong heritage of industrial typefaces. These fonts seem like being constructed by engineers. The shapes seem to be built with circles and squares. DIN Mittelschrift is one very famous example, or the font on the old German car number plates. Since the Romain du Roi we know that it is tricky to draw a geometrical typeface. For optical reasons you have to go away from circles and lines with exactly one weight. Therefore the aim is not to construct a typeface but to draw it the way it seems constructed finally. The design of a typeface is like stage production. Like heavily made up actors the characters of a typeface must be exaggerated to work well. Particularly in small sizes.

This family was created inspired from the first font carved and cast in France, for the Sorbonne University’s printing workshop (Paris). Big Fish is a low contrast Script and Slanted Casuals with bold characters. Canterbury Old Style Pro is a two-weight serif font family with a small x-height. In 1920, Morris F. Benton designed the original weight for American Type Founders (ATF). Raymond Vatter and Steve Jackaman produced the digital version in 1992 and added a new “Bold” weight, and a full set of swash capitals were designed and released in 2003. Jackaman redrew and remastered the family in 2017, engineering the complete family into OpenType Pro format. Kowalski2 is a decorative, serif, hand-drawn font. It can be used for invitations, greeting cards, posters, advertising, weddings, books, menus etc. The inspiration came from the beautiful font Desire designed by Charles Borges de Oliveira. Kowalski2 Pro is the most complete style, it contains all the alternates and ligatures. To get the alternate glyph just add "+“, ”=" or "*" before the letter in any OpenType savvy application or manually select the characters from Glyph Palette. Kowalski2 Basic has the basic character set with 345 glyphs and no alternates. Kowalski2 A, Kowalski2 B and Kowalski2 C have less glyphs than the Pro one, they only contain some selected alternates and ligatures. Language support includes Western, Central and Eastern European character sets, as well as Baltic and Turkish languages.

African fonts are characterised by design considerations that differ from those of Europe and the Americas. At one extreme we have a relaxed and casual approach to life that values the quality of each moment in life far more than people do in the west. In this approach each element of the font, while being part of a community, nevertheless stands on its own and has its own "character". An African font that characterises this approach is Ubuvila (the word means relaxedness or relaxation in Zulu). There is no strict adherence to a design format in Ubuvila nor are the characters constrained by resting on the same baseline. They wander up and down in the sentence and find a comfortable resting place.

Martin Crantz (or sometimes Krantz) of the three, including Ulrich Gering and Michael Friburger, that set up a press at the Sorbonne in 1470 was likely the fellow who had the technical know how how to cast the type itself, hence the name of this new face that is based on his work. This font has been expanded to meet the demands of modern day use but it also contains a number of specialized glyphs that allow for the recreation of text in the manner of his day with such characters as the -rum abbreviation and other handy Renaissance oddities. Since this face was designed prior to 1501 there is no italic variant in keeping with the spirit of historical accuracy.

Blue Sugar is a grunge font which has one letter-shape in white set within a different grunge letter-shape in black. The Regular and Dirty versions have their characters in conventionally upright positions; and there are 3 varieties with the characters in various states of disorder and at slightly varied angles and sizes - called Twirled and Whirled. The Mixed Caps version introduces no new characters, but combines straight capitals and jumbled capitals in the same font, for convenience, in which Upper Case A-Z displays conventional upright Capitals, and lower case a-z displays jumbled Capitals. The package contains both OTF and TTF versions - install either OTF or TTF, not both versions of a font on the same machine.

Although initially inspired by the neon sign in front of Canter’s Delicatessen in Los Angeles, the design of Deliscript Upright and Deliscript Slant soon took on a life of its own–and its own distinctive look. Professor Minty is a cartoon-inspired kind of comic font with a lotta bounce and a whole buncha spooky fun. Both regular and bold are based on Chank’s first fonts, Mister Frisky and Uncle Stinky. The Bold version is brand new in 2011, never before available. But here both of those fonts are combined into one extra-savvy font that does all kinds of tricks.
