Capitolium was designed in 1998 at the request of the Agenzia romana per la preparatione del Giubileo for the Jubilee of the Roman Catholic Church in 2000. This type design was the central part of the project for a wayfinding and information system to guide pilgrims and tourists through Rome. Capitolium also continues Rome’s almost uninterrupted two-thousand-year-old tradition of public lettering . It is a modern typeface for the twenty-first century and strongly related to the traditions of Rome. Soon after the completion of this project Unger began contemplating the possibility of bringing the atmosphere of this design to newspapers. Though Capitolium works well in most modern production processes and also on screens, it is too fragile for newsprint. For newspapers sturdier shapes were required as well as more characters to a line of text, and Capitolium News has a bigger x-height than Capitolium. Capitolium News is a thoroughly modern newsface, with classic letterforms linked to a strong tradition. Capitolium News for running text comes in the variations regular, italic, semibold, semibold italic, bold and bold italic. As is possible with most of Unger’s type designs, Capitolium News can be condensed and expanded without any harm to the letterforms. The update to this beautiful font family, Capitolium News, includes the addition of over 250 glyphs featuring full Latin A language support, new ligatures, 4 sets of numerals, arbitrary fractions and superiors/inferiors. Furthermore, kerning was added and fine tuned for better performance.

Michiana Pro is my new, hand-crafted connecting script! I've been hand lettering cards and envelopes to my wife and family in this type style for years and decided it was time to make a font based on it. I typically start with a single thin stroke for each letter, then build up the weight of the heavy stroke, so there ends up being a lot of charming variations in terms of style and color. The overall finish is rough, yet friendly. Perfect for invitations, place cards, love notes, and with its large x-height, it sets nicely for text. I grew up running around the dunes and beaches along Lake Michigan in northwest Indiana, and I think the shoreline and dune grass has inspired my aesthetic. Michiana Pro takes the name from a small area along the lake between the Indiana and Michigan state lines. There are a lot of nice, modest homes nestled in the duneland forests. Thinking about what it's like back there, it's like having a bowl of steaming hot comfort food. So I hope Michiana Pro feels that way to you too. Morris is a four-font family produced by HiH Retrofonts and based on the work of the very English William Morris. William Morris wanted a gothic type drawn from the 14th century blackletter tradition that he admired both stylistically and philosophically. He drew from several sources. His principal inspiration for his lower case was the 1462 Bible by Peter Schoeffer of Mainz; particularly notable for the first appearance of the ‘ear’ on the g. The upper case was Morris’s amalgam of the Italian cursive closed caps popular throughout the 12th through 15th centuries, a modern example of which is Goudy’s Lombardic Capitals. The gothic that Morris designed was first used by his Kelmscott Press for the publication of the Historyes Of Troye in 1892. It was called “Troy Type” and was cut at 18 points by Edward Prince. It was also used for The Tale of Beowulf. The typeface was re-cut in at 12 points and called “Chaucer Type” for use in The Order of Chivalry and The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer. Morris' objective is designing his gothic was not only to preserve the color and presence of his sources, but to create letters that were more readable to the English eye. ATF copied Troy and called it Satanick. Not only was the ATF version popular in the United States; but, interestingly, sold very well in Germany. There was great interest in that country in finding a middle ground between blackletter and roman styles -- one that was comfortable for a wider readership. The Morris design was considered one of the more successful solutions. Our interpretation, which we call Morris Gothic, substantially follows the Petzendorfer model used by other versions we have seen, with the following exceptions: 1) a larger fillet radius on the upper arm of the H, 2) a more typically broadpen stroke in place of the foxtail on the Q, which I do not like, 3) inclusion of the aforementioned ear on the g and 4) a slightly shorter descender on the y. We have included five ornaments, at positions 0135, 0137, 0167, 0172 and 0177. The German ligatures ‘ch’ & ‘ck’ can be accessed using the left and right brace keys (0123 & 0125). Morris Initials One and Morris Initials Two are two of several different styles of decorative initial letters that Morris designed for use with his type. He drew from a variety of 15th century sources, among which were Peter Schoeffer’s 1462 Mainz Bible and the lily-of-the-valley alphabet by Gunther Zainer of Augsburg. Each of the two initial fonts is paired with the Morris Gothic lower case. Morris Ornaments is a collection of both text ornaments and forms from the surrounding page-border decorations.

I was inspired to create the Rainier type family during my summer back home in the Pacific Northwest. The concept behind it may be simple - a hand crafted font family - but what it delivers is quite complex! Here is a breakdown of everything you get: FONT FAMILIES: Two sub-families with unique styles - Rainier North and Rainier West WEIGHTS: 4 weights per family, broken down numerically - 100 (light), 300 (regular), 500 (bold), 700 (black) OPENTYPE: In each family, there are tons of OpenType options, offering lots of customizable opportunities (in order to access all these goodies, you must be using Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign or Publisher). The Adagio Family is a part of Mateusz Machalski’s, Warsaw Academy of fine arts Master Degree Diploma in multimedia studio, conducted by Professor Stanisław Wieczorek and his brave PhD student Jakub Wróblewski. Adagio is a modern type family. It consists of 3 main varieties: sans, serif and slab. Each has its own “true italic” set. All of the styles together have over 400 characters in 9 different thicknesses. The Adagio family was created mostly for company identities. The idea was to create a wide range of different varieties that are stylistically consistent. Adagio Slab - Slab variety combines qualities of the Sans and Serif varieties. It has the same contrast as Sans. As distinct from Serif, Adagio Slab contains strong, beamy and symmetrical serifs in the form of pillows. Thanks to large X height, and highly stretched descenders, it also works correctly in longer text, while its strong detail is good for headlines. Slab version is a great complement for Adagio Serif and Adagio Sans.

The Face2Face (F2F) series was inspired by the techno sound of the mid-1990s, personal computers and new font creation software. For years, Alexander Branczyk and his friends formed a unique type design collective, which churned out a substantial amount of fresh, new fonts, none of which complied with the traditional rules of typography. Many of these typefaces were used to create layouts for the leading German techno magazine of the 1990s, Frontpage. Branczyk and his fellows would even set in type at 6 points, in order to make it nearly unreadable. It was a pleasure for the kids to read and decrypt these messages! The three fonts in the F2F Czykago family, F2F Czykago Light, F2F Czykago Semi Serif, and F2F Czykago Trans, were all inspired by the Apple system font Chicago. The F2F Czykago family, along with 38 other Face2Face fonts, is included in the TakeType 5 collection from Linotype. Branczyk designed 16 of these himself."

I was asked by a good friend of mine to design his tattoo lettering. This fellow prefered an easy stencil with no ornament, such as swirls or loops. After some preliminary design I finally accepted the challenge and while completing the whole alphabet, the idea of creating a cool font of it occured to me. Only a few months later this new font family already contained 4 weights, every weight has a companion Italic style, punctuation, numerals and mathematical operators, as well as all accented characters. Bomber TV is a brand-new font and all glyphs have been contemplated very carefully so that all characters match in a well-balanced and streaming way. Zombie Apocalypse is way more versatile as its name would suggest. It might be used as a horror font (red color tones in horror games, movie covers) or in ads for an Offroad Experience Tour (or wherever it comes to dirt, mud and spatters in combination with brown tones). When used with light blue/red/yellow/orange colors, the font can express creativity and freedom (on fashion, inspirational art and advertising) because it is not bound to classic straight-lined fonts. In various shades of gray or in black, it can be used to support a "worn out" look. Zombie Apocalypse - with its "worn out" look and many details - is espacially designed for use with large font sizes, for example in high resolution print media or in large images on digital media. The font is designed to be used in many different languages. It has a large set of accented characters and diacritical marks.

One day shortly after Christmas 2004, the art-director of Vogue Moscow called me. Would I maybe make a Cyrillic version of my Bodoni Classic Text typeface? Well, since I had been thinking about doing it since a long time, this was the perfect reason to finally do it. It was not an easy venture, since I do not have the faintest idea of Russian but, together with those nice people in Russia and a fellow helpful type designer in Kiev, I managed. I did an enormous amount of kerning, thanks to the help of the Moscow Vogue office. Here the fonts are now for all of you: five text cuts, plus one standard roman cut that has no Cyrillic letters but an extra set of medieval numbers. At Vogue they are happy with the fonts, even though I did not quite adhere to Bodoni's originals in this case. Nastarowje (or whatever you say in Russia), Gert Wiescher

Sabine is an Arabetic type design with a calligraphic flavor. It follows the guidelines of the Mutamathil Taqlidi type style with one glyph for every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter, as defined in Unicode Standards version 5.1, and one additional, final-position, glyph for each Arabic letter that is normally connected with other letters from both sides in traditional cursive Arabic strings. Sabine employs variable x-height values. It includes all required Lam-Alif ligatures and uses ligature substitutions and selected marks positioning but it does not use any other glyph substitutions or forming. Text strings composed using types of this family are non-cursive with stand-alone isolated glyphs. Tatweel (or Kashida) glyph is a zero width space. Keying it before any glyph will display that glyph isolated form. In Sabine Kashidah, Irsal, and Tasmim keying Tatweel (shift J) after certain glyphs will replace it with a long stroke glyph. In Sabine Tasmim, keying it a second time will replace glyph with a final form swash (Irsal) glyph. In Sabine Irsal all final forms are swash glyphs. Sada is a text font designed with hand held devices and ebooks in mind. Glyphs are designed to be larger than usual and very clear with soft visual characteristics and many traditional Arabic calligraphic transitional features incorporated to improve legibility. The word “sada” means “echo” in Arabic. Even though Sada is a cursive style font it offers clearly distinguished and visually unified letter shapes in every position of a word. Sada supports all Arabetic scripts covered by Unicode 6.1, and the latest Arabic Supplement and Extended-A Unicode blocks, including support for Quranic texts. And the day in which I introduce my second typographic family has arrived. In order to do this, I borrowed several passages from this beautiful book by Maurice Maeterlinck, “Life and Flowers”. His poetic observation of Nature made me reflect about the small discoveries behind the flow of my pen on paper. About that quick, spontaneous, overwhelmed stroke, with some awkwardness as well as certainty in it. About the writing that looms line after line. About the mischievous stains of ink flooding my writing tool. Lady Dodó was born as a product of these drawings, pieces of writing and reflections. Following the steps of its ancestor and friend, Lady René, it takes advantage of the goodness of the Open Type technology to propose a systematized as well as a personalized writing font. There are a few professions in which being left-handed confers an advantage-think of the great southpaw pitchers in major league baseball, like Sandy Koufax. Now, think of all the great left-handed calligraphers. Not so easy, right? Here's a hint: Luis Siquot. Far from being an advantage, Siquot's lefty orientation proved a hurdle to overcome. When I was young, I had serious problems writing," he recalls. "If there was a lot of text, I almost always soiled the paper with wet ink as my hand followed the pen." Then, a friend told Siquot about a special store in London that catered to left-handed people. It was there that he found an Osmiroid pen specially designed for left-handed calligraphers. ITC Cali is based on Siquot's use of this pen. "Electronic scans of my calligraphy were the foundation of the design," he says. "I was careful to leave in some imperfections to avoid an excessively mechanical look, and added the little notches in the strokes to imitate the texture of writing on a rough cotton paper." The Pagnol typeface has been designed with a principle developed by A. M. Cassandre in 1937, when the great French designer created the Peignot typeface following paleographic studies on the evolution of letterforms. Researches in the history of writing have proved that the lowercase "a" is at its origin nothing but the "A" shape transformed through centuries by scribes until the invention of printing. A large number of lowercases meanwhile kept their original shapes. If the scribes’ hand didn’t find the necessity to simplify them, it is only because these letters could be easily written. Integrating the classical shapes of capitals to the lowercases has already been used, keeping the lowercases which are only a deformation of capitals. Nevertheless, the respect of readability imposes to keep ascendants and descendants from traditional lowercases which serve as optical focus points in a text and make reading easier. The particularity of Pagnol is to use rounded shapes on top and bottom of pointed capital letters to make them fit with corresponding lowercases (Aa, Mm, Nn, Vv, Ww, Zz). Lowercases proportions are wide, to be in tune with classic lowercase shapes in order to optimize readability. Five weights in roman and italic have been designed to offer a wide palette of typographic possibilities in all sizes and all paper and screen supports.
