Just like the M.C. Escher impossible figures and optical illusions, "Denedo" is a font that is impossible to construct in three dimensions because it only exists as a drawing. This font is based on the "0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9" characters of one of the alphabets published by Nedo Mion Ferrario in the "Letromaquia" exhibition that was shown in Caracas, Venezuela in the 70's. The reason why I chose to restore and complete this font is that unique and exceptional personality that each word acquires when it is written with this alphabet. Denedo is a typographic family in three styles: Denedo 1A, 1B and 1C. When mixing them in big sizes you will emphasize the balance and incongruity of its shapes, providing originality and a unique identity to every word. All of the 3 variations include a complete character set with the lower and upper case letters, numbers, accents, diacritic signs, punctuation and monetary signs. Pata Slab: the ultra-heavy optimism we all need in 2020 Pata Slab is the type equivalent of a catwalk stomp down a city sidewalk, a font that’s assertive, funky and more than a little sexy. Named after a colloquialism for ‘feet’, Pata features ultra-heavy slabs and contrasting hairline centers that rise from its chunky footprint. The resulting, retro-inspired vertiginous curves add instant attitude to any design. Developed in 2020, Pata is a type of its time.Pata is all upside, as it is a typeface with no descenders — one that elevates all characters to grow upward from the baseline (because, c’mon, we could all use something uplifting right now!) All uppercase characters were built to fit precisely inside a square, so they’re all the same width and height. The lowercase alphabet, eñes, cedillas, punctuation, numbers and symbols all follow the same height restrictions. Despite all that confinement, Pata sports standard-height terminals that connect seamlessly so there’s nearly endless options for modular ligatures. Bo Berndal, the master Swedish typographer, is the eponymous designer of Berndal, a contemporary text family with five different styles. This family represents a new achievement for Bo Berndal, who has spent many years working to optimize text legibility in the printed media. Several small tricks make the Berndal family an interesting milestone in legibility. Berndal's letterforms contain large x-heights. Large x-heights open up the counterforms of letters, making text appear lighter on a page, but their correspondingly shorter ascenders and descenders can hinder legibility. This does not occur in Berndal at all! Coupled with this experiment, Berndal's various font weights display a certain softness and roundness. The letterforms themselves are relatively wide, with an overall consistency in width. The calligraphic nature of the strokes has been minimized, yet a contrast stroke-thickness is still to be noticed within the alphabet. Berndal's five styles offer almost everything that one could want from a good text family. The Regular weight may be paired with Small Caps, Italic, Bold, and Bold Italic. All styles ship in the OpenType format, and include tabular and old style figures. The two italic weights are made up of true italics, not obliques. The Berndal family is a part of the Take Type 5 collection from Linotype GmbH."

Bauhaus is a style of art that was born in Weimar Germany in the early part of the 20th century. The font that bears the bauhaus name was constructed in accordance with this style by making use of spheres and squares with little or no added flourishes. Since this typeface was already minimalistic in appearance, it was difficult to produce a similarly styled font. So I went back to bauhaus’ architectural roots for inspiration. Talking about the numerous types that today bear the name of Giambattista Bodoni are a kind of tribute as much to his reputation as a printer as to his ability as designer and engraver. In fact, all of them tent to be more in the way or style of Bodoni than simply copy of his letterforms. Like many other type designers, we’ve been seduced also to develop our own point of view of his work, nowadays enriched by some features of OpenType format that allows a variety of combinations: standard ligatures, discretional ligatures, stylistic alternates and old styles figures. Whereas the Bodoni serif in the capitals was of the same weight as the thin stroke but joined with a very slight fillet (Bracket) and the lowercase serif were like his French rivals, the Didots, featured straight- edged serifs that were unbracketed. The ascenders and descenders of this new Bodoni are shorter, giving in this way, more space for enlarge x high. The Rough and Particles styles emerge as a unique niche—neither imitating distressed printing (e.g. the “rusty” look), nor casual, hand-drawn styles. These type designs are conceived and executed as complex algorithmically-generated graphic procedures, in which repetitive elements have been artfully applied to the Sans capitals, and manually nuanced. As such they also differ substantially from textured glyph shapes that have been cut out from larger pattern fields, for the constituent particles are disposed in relation to the specific shape of each character they define. The caps-with-small-caps format was chosen for two reasons. Firstly, titling display usage is predominantly capitals, and secondly, rather like optical scaling, having the same resolution of texture available in two different “sizes” (upper and lower case) should prove useful in the hierarchy of page layout—not primarily for setting upper and lower case text as caps-with-small-capitals, although this is of course an option. One design sparks another. As Alejandro Paul experimented with the strokes and curves of the monoline script Business Penmanship, he discovered interesting new forms and shapes that didn't fit the Spencerian theme of that typeface. These forms simmered in Ale’s subconscious over the next three years, during which time he visited New York City, pored over rare type specimen books in the New York Public Library, and explored Brooklyn’s neighborhoods. Brownstone, the face born from these explorations, is an original 21st-century design, yet one subtly infused with historical and cultural references -- keen observers might spot influences from decorative typefaces of 19th-century foundries. And just as faces from that era were influenced by contemporary architecture, the frames included with Brownstone echo the ornate iron railings of Park Slope’s row houses. (There’s also a slight 1960s vibe to Brownstone, of novelty swash-sans photocompositing faces, that can be played up at your discretion.) Influences aside, Brownstone has broad appeal to modern audiences. A soft, monoline sans-serif, with elements of Swiss geometry (see the ‘k’ and ‘x’), its marriage of highly legible, draftsman-like letterforms with decorative swashes and ornaments reflects the old-meets-new aesthetic of the DIY craft culture seen in Brooklyn and other urban centers. It’s ornamental but unfussy, romantic but understated. Besley Clarendon ML is our version of the Clarendon registered by Robert Besley and the Fann Street Foundry in 1845. Besley Clarendon ML represents a significant change from the slab-serif Antiques & Egyptians that had become so popular in the prior three decades. Like Caslon’s Ionic of 1844, it brackets the serifs and strongly differentiates between the thick and thin strokes. Besley Clarendon is also what today is considered a condensed face, as a comparison to the various contemporary Clarendons will show. Robert Besley’s Clarendon was so popular that many foundries quickly copied it, a fact that caused him to complain vigorously. The reason it was so widely copied is simple ó it was extremely useful. It provided the attention-getting boldness to highlight a word or phrase, yet at the same time was compact and easier to read than the fat faces and antiques of the period. It wasn't until sixty years later that the concept of a typeface family of different weights was developed with DeVinne and Cheltenham. Until then, Clarendon served as everyone’s all-purpose bold face. It can be used for ads, flyers, headers or even short text. Don't leave home without it. This family contains a comprehensive range of nine weights--slender to black--and features condensed and extender selections for a complete set of forty-eight fonts. Novelty Script is a bold dynamic script, sharply delineated, yet fluid. Most of the lower case letters and many of the upper case letters have joins. The typeface was designed by Nicholas J. Werner and Gustave F. Schroeder and patented in March 1893. The original release was by the Central Type Foundry of St. Louis, Missouri. Although a part of ATF from 1892, the Central Type Foundry continued to operate under its own name until 1895. Novelty Script uses our new encoding, as noted in the All_customer_readme.txt. The Euro symbol has been moved to position 128 and the Zcaron/zcaron have been added at positions 142/158 respectively. Otherwise, Novelty Script has our usual idiosyncratic glyph selection, with the German ch/ck instead of braces, Western European accented letters, lower case “o” and “u” with Hungarian umlaut and our usual Hand-in-Hand symbol. But that is not all. With the takeover of the Central Type Foundry by ATF, a group of special characters appeared. All are included in this font, except the “&Co” and the "'s", for a total of nine in all.
