After exploring tessellations for several years, I decided to see how many ways I could tessellate puzzle pieces. I began with a square template and used the same asymmetrical shape for all four edges. By flips or rotation each edge could be fitted in four ways. Eventually I discovered that, given this way of forming tiles, there were 15 distinct shapes that tessellate and these shapes can take a total of 96 orientations. (A note in the November 2016 issue of Mathematical Gazette has the proof for the 15 shapes.) This typeface contains those 15 shapes and 96 orientations. A pdf note here shows some of the tilings possible using only one shape in a pattern. An unlimited number of patterns are possible if shapes are mixed. There are two members of the family, a solid style that must have different colors when used and an outline style. They can be used separately or they can be used in layers with the outline style on top of the solid style. For rows to align properly, leading must be the same as point size. (Earlier tessellation fonts from IngrimayneType, the TessieDingies fonts, lack a black or filled version so cannot do colored patterns.)

Font editors allow one to blend fonts, that is, to take two different fonts and create a new one by averaging the two source fonts. This feature is responsible for the many different weights that come with some modern typefaces. It can also be used to blend completely different fonts, though these blends will require a lot of cleaning and correcting to make them useable. Linotype Party Time is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. The typeface is the work of Bulgarian designer Christo Velikov and is composed exclusively of capital letters. Our chef Martin Lorenz likes to mix cool and fresh cocktails - shaken, not stirred! You have to taste his awesome Martini or mix it yourself! To make matters more easy, cocktail master Martin reveals his special recipe: “The TpMartini refers esthetically to typefaces drawn with a pointed nib as the Bodoni or Didot, but with the clear distinction that it is obviously constructed by modules. The visual system for the TpMartin is based on a square 5x9-unit grid and three different basic forms with which the font and other elements are designed. The basic forms consist of a straight line and circles of two different sizes. The line can be extended, but the circles retain their related proportions.” One piece of advice: Don’t drink and type!

Blue Sugar is a grunge font which has one letter-shape in white set within a different grunge letter-shape in black. The Regular and Dirty versions have their characters in conventionally upright positions; and there are 3 varieties with the characters in various states of disorder and at slightly varied angles and sizes - called Twirled and Whirled. The Mixed Caps version introduces no new characters, but combines straight capitals and jumbled capitals in the same font, for convenience, in which Upper Case A-Z displays conventional upright Capitals, and lower case a-z displays jumbled Capitals.
