Sookie is a hand designed font for posters, invitations, headlines, lettering of nursery hooks, signs, young, fresh and round. Designed in March 2022 by Joachim Frank, Germany.

The font Pillar is inspired by steel pillars that support buildings and bridges together. In similar fashion, the font is designed to support the content for which it will be used. The font is intended to be used as a header or headline font, but a creative designer will find other uses for it. Most of the characters are based on the same rectangle and therefore contain the same width which displays symmetry. The font contains 242 glyphs which include: uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, symbols, accented characters, and ligatures.

While searching online for vintage type inspirations, an image was spotted of an old letterhead for a steel manufacturing company. The hand lettering of the word 'Ludlum' only offered D,L,M and E as visual examples, but from this Jeff Levine has designed Eckhardt Dualine JNL - a Deco-flavored dual-line type font. As with a number of other releases that emulate hand-lettering or sign painting, Jeff has named this font in honor of his good friend, the late Albert Eckhardt, Jr.; who ran Allied Signs in Miami from 1959 until his passing.

One of the type samples showcased in the 1907 Barnhart Brothers & Spindler specimen book was named “Sterling”; a spurred serif Art Nouveau design. This is now available digitally as Millinery JNL in both regular and oblique versions. An old fashioned term for a once plentiful business, ‘millinery’ is a women’s hat shop.

Bad Girl was designed to appeal to the young consumer and the young-at-heart. While clearly feminine, it manages to combine a charming naïveté with in-your-face rebelliousness. The awkward, rather self-involved character shapes have a definite gauche appeal. Bad Girl has a gamine-like insouciance with a touch of wickedness. In contrast to its naive appearance, Bad Girl has been carefully crafted, letterspaced and kerned and contains a full character set of 237 characters. The font comes in two styles, regular and light.

This elegant titling face is based on an American Type Founders release from the 1920s named Sterling. The original idea for Alda came from exploring an alternative approach to generating different typeface weights by adapting the characteristics of physical objects. I was interested to find out how far this could be pushed before the letters became a parody of what they referenced. Initially I took this treatment very literally, with the boldest weight expressing the tension of bent steel, and the lightest being as spineless as a rubber band. This allowed me to infuse each weight with unique characteristics, where the bold is robust and angular, and the light is delicate and soft.

Stone and steel FS Benjamin is a flared serif typeface designed by Stuart de Rozario. Consisting of 12 styles ranging from Light, Book, Regular, Medium, SemiBold and Bold with Italics it has clear, delicate letterforms, punctuated with brutal chiselled angles. With a pure and crafted feel to the forms the typeface has traditional roots but has been designed to work in a contemporary setting. Archetypal proportions in terms of x-height to cap height and ascender to descender ratio, allow the typeface to feel familiar and be legible in all platforms. Delicate brutalism Inspired by the contrasts of London and named after Big Ben, FS Benjamin was designed by Stuart de Rozario and founder, Jason Smith. Walking around London Jason was inspired by the juxtaposition of the old and the new. Glass and steel architecture can often be found amongst traditional signage and coats of arms seen around the City. These surroundings sparked an idea to create a modern design based on an alphabet that would traditionally be carved from stone. “Much of the typography we see today is so similar. I thought what if we created a typeface with traditional roots but modernised it to sit amongst the punk and noise of the streets of London? Old with new. Business with busyness. Simple Ronde is conceived for young pupils. This upright script is based on the french use at primary schools. A large set of ligatures make the links between characters more natural, especially with o, b, v and w.

Dez Yinznat Stencil is a condensed stencil sans serif inspired by the industrial city of Pittsburgh, PA USA. Stencil type was often used in the steel mills, scrap metal yards, railroads, warehouses, and other industrial institutions of Pittsburgh and is almost a signature for the City. The name comes from combining two colloquial expressions common to Pittsburgh. “Yinz” is used there like "Y'all" is used in Southern States. "n'at" or sometimes "N@" is used to replace “and that” when ending a phrase. This font is dedicated to the hard-working people who made Pittsburgh what it is, N@. High-tech subjects can also find a friend in Dez Yinz'nat.

Up until the advent of modern packing and shipping methods, the common way to mark merchandise or other items to be transported was through the use of a brass stencil. These marking devices were hand stamped (or punched) using metal dies that were struck against sheets of brass to create the letters, numbers and other symbols [unlike the steel rule die cutting method used for manufacturing paper stencils]. One such example of an antique marking stencil had letters and numbers approximately one quarter of an inch in height, and Stamped Brass Stencil JNL recreates the design complete with the unusual variations of character shapes and widths.

I made Cut Along by stealing some red cardboard from my kids (red, because they didn’t have any black…) and cutting out the glyphs one by one with a pair of scissors. I then pasted the shapes onto white paper, scanned them and turned them into a font. Cut Along is a very nice font for ads, book covers, packaging and children’s books. Enjoy!

ITC Braganza is the work of British designer Phill Grimshaw, an elegant typeface steeped in historical inspiration. Reminiscent of the handwritten manuscript styles of the 16th century, the name Braganza refers to Catherine, Duchess of Braganza, who was a prominent figure in Portugal at the time. Inspired by some scribbles I made as a young kid in the 80'ies at school - when I should have paid attention to the teacher! Comes with a complete multilingual set of letters with alternate versions of both upper- and lowercase

This started out to be a font with an Egyptian hieroglyphic look, but took a detour just beyond the first pyramid. A young lady we know said many of the letters reminded her of the hooks on a bra strap. Whatever.

Those who design books for young children should consider the different needs of their readers. When laying out pages for young readers, particular care should be taken over word spacing. Don't forget that justifying short lines disrupts spacing. Justification should be used only when absolutely necessary. In the research undertaken with young readers the importance of consistent spacing was clear. It also appeared that the poorer readers profited from wider word spacing, while spacing that suited the poorest readers, positively annoyed the better readers. These typefaces have built-in letter spacing because of their exit strokes, as well as extra clarity designed into them. Sassoon Primary Medium Condensed is a compact style for headlines combining the right amount of weight, yet in a friendly style. CS are the initials of Carsten Strinkau, a young German graphic and type designer who studied in Hamburg. CS Fuzzy Logic combines coincidence and logic. The individual glyphs of Fuzzy Logic are almost dissolved but keep its sharpness and readability in texts.
