A title card with cast credits for the 1935 movie “The Whole Town’s Talking” (starring Edward G. Robinson and Jean Arthur) formed the basis for People Talk JNL. The hand lettered names were done in a slightly condensed slab serif – mostly rectangular in shape with rounded corners. A few characters take on their own unique appearance. People Talk JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Granpa’s typewriter comes from an antique Olivetti Typewriter Machine I have. This font has all of the effects a typewriter machine can offer you: a regular version, a strong hit version, a light distressed version, a double-hit version and X version, which is a compilation of several typewriter mistakes, tests and stains. This font is specially handy when trying to use a typewriter effect on an edgy/grunge work, where there's no worry about perfection!

When designing a typeface, one has to be conscious of superfluous details. Although I am always tempted to add little personal touches, experience taught me that the phrase -less is more- is totally true. In Model, the letters (like models do) participated of a contest: An event in which models engage in competition against each other, often for a prize or similar incentive. The prize was staying in the font! yay! Tall, delicate, refined, the right amount of elegancy: These were some of the aspects to be chosen. Typographically speaking, these things were achieved thanks to a tall x-height (which leaded the font to be somehow condensed), a subtle contrast between thicks and thins, and just the right amount of decorative swirls. The result is a nice script that can be used in magazines, invitations, posters, book-covers and works very well when used over photographs. Get Model and let it be the star of the catwalk. STYLES Model Pro and Model Small Pro are the most complete styles of the font. Both have all the ligatures and decorative glyphs seen in posters above (OT programmed). Model Std One, Std Two and Std Three are reduced versions of Pro. This means they have less glyphs inside. TIP If you are planning to print the font in small sizes, it’s highly recommended to purchase Model Small Pro. Its thins are thicker so they will be better printed.

The hand-drawn look of the original lettering was retained by Jeff Levine to stay true to the design, and the rectangles that border each glyph represent the pieces of self-adhesive vinyl onto which the characters were silk screened. Sheet music for the song “The Little Thing You Used to Do” (from the 1935 motion picture “Go into your Dance” starring Al Jolson and Ruby Keeler) had its title set in what closely resembled Bank Gothic Condensed. [Bank Gothic was originally designed by Morris Fuller Benton for American Type Founders circa 1930.] This reinterpreted version is now known as Stenographer JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Rock Concert JNL is a playful free form type design inspired by the opening title and credits for the 1964 motion picture comedy “Send Me No Flowers” starring Rock Hudson, Doris Day, and Tony Randall. Strongly resembling hippie movement poster lettering of the mid-1960s, this fonts fits well with any retro project emulating the “Peace and Love” movement or (as its name implies) re-creating period piece rock concert posters.

I made this font using my index finger and Chinese ink. I thought the ink would come off easily, but I can tell you: it doesn’t. I have been walking around with a black stained finger for a week now and I do get strange looks from people every so often… Fingerfood, of course, is hand made. It is a rather playful font - all caps, but lower and upper case differ and like to mingle. Comes with a full diacritics palette.

The history of this font is those. Once I assorted the old children's books which have stayed from times of my childhood. On one of them I have seen a trade mark of a printing house consisting of two Russian letters "L" and "B". From they were begun also with my font. And though finally from these letters a little that remained, elements of these letters can be seen in font D-block B.

Oceanside Sans is a display typeface produced in 2022 by Bepop Font Foundry. This typeface was born out of a month-long trip to the Bahamas. The scenery, both natural and architectural, was stunning, yet restrained. Diamond Jim JNL was inspired [in part] by an image of a 1970s Letraset® dry transfer typeface made entirely of small stars. By creating his own layout using tiny diamond shapes, Jeff Levine has produced a font that takes on multiple appearances. At 24 point it resembles dot matrix printing; at 48 point the diamonds are clearly visible; and overall, the design has a distinctive 70s retro feel. Limited character set.

Decima – condensed geometric Sans Serif typeface, released back in 2009 and quite successful ever since (MyFonts Rising Star, February 2009). Decima Pro – an upgraded version of Decima, with careful refinements to glyph shapes and extension of glyph amounts, which enabled support of more Latin languages as well as support of Cyrillic. Six more alternate styles have been added to the original six styles. Typeface is released in OpenType format with some OpenType features.

Shoebox font is crafty and sweet. It’s hand-drawn with double letter ligatures for upper and lower case. It works great in all-caps, and the lower case is a funky mix up with some interlocking ligatures too. Shoebox is rough with an occasional curl, and is paired with Shoebox Shapes; a unique picture font of Amy Dietrich illustrations (featuring boxes, bags, cats, stars, familiar household items, and for some reason, a forgetful octopus).

A bold, classic wood type newspaper headline was the inspiration for Early Edition JNL. The source of the type design was actually a dummy newspaper with the headline “Thursby and Archer Murders Linked” [which was used in the 1941 film noir classic “The Maltese Falcon” featuring an all-star cast headed by Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, Peter Lorre and Sidney Greenstreet]. Early Edition JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

The unusual name for this Deco style typeface comes from the playful and pun-laden 1960s Rocky & Bullwinkle TV show. It is the name of the newspaper in the mythical town of Frostbite Falls, MN, home of the two cartoon stars. The name, Picayune Intelligence, literally means “pretty dumb”, but we don’t think that describes Nick’s competent design at all. It is comforting to know that someone is still watching quality television.

Oh Icons is a family of 382 icons divided into three thematic sets. Each set contains 52 characters, plus alternate glyphs in Open Type Stylistic sets. Every icon can be used independently, but you can also merge them to design an adult or a baby figure, a nursery room or to dress a dog. Black backgrounds will let you colour your icons. Prism was mainly inspired by two things, the sketches of Rudolf Koch for Prisma and the proportions of Avant Garde by Herb Lubalin. Even when the proportions and widths stay the same from ExtraLight to Black, you get the opportunity to change the weight and get a complete new look for that typeface by changing the grayscale or color. It is a modern combination for headlines, that want to have a different look.

FourJuly contains three patriotic fonts that might be fun to use in July. They are also very hard to read, but perhaps not as hard as the somewhat similar letters in the fonts of FlagDay. FourJuly A has square, blocky letters with star interiors. FourJuly G and FourJuly H add diagonal stripes. FourJuly G and FourJuly H can be layered on top of FourJuly A to create bicolored letters. I can’t remember when I had a true lazy morning.. I was a looong time ago, before I had children! Even now, when I’m down with the flu, I can’t stay in bed for too long - it really seems like a waste of time! Lazy Morning is a nice handwritten font. I made it with a Sharpie pen. It comes with all diacritics and double letter ligatures for you to play with.

Friday Freak PB is a playful font inspired by the titling of the 1976 Disney film, "Freaky Friday". This font has a slightly clumsy stumble to it, adding to its personality and appeal. From slightly weird weighting to a ligatures feature that will auto-shuffle all-caps and all-lowercase settings to have a mix of both, keeps typesetting lively. Rifton is a heavy display typeface designed for use in large sizes. It is available as a regular and italic font or as one Variable Font with an italic axis. Installing the Variable Font offers users additional benefits because, in addition to the pre-defined “upright” and “italic” instances, the interpolations between them can be used. That allows you to have slanted text – but just a little less slanted than in the italic. Rifton is an all-caps design, but the letters mapped to the lowercase keyboard do not always have the same forms as the uppercase. That is most visible when it comes to the “s”, which takes a Star-Wars-style form (think of the Star Wars logo). The Rifton fonts also include OpenType features like ligatures – including some exciting discretionary ligatures – and super-wide alternate glyphs for several letters, including “B”, “E”, “F”, “H”, “L”, “N”, “P”, “R”, “T” and “Z”. Rifton is ideal for making a bold statement in headlines, poster designs, or logos. -
