ITC Freddo is the work of New York designer James Montalbano and was inspired by a sign lettering manual from the 1930s. Montalbano liked the character shapes illustrated in this manual but found many of the proportions odd. So he reinterpreted them to produce capitals and lower case letters which, according to today's standards, better complement one another.

MVB Bossa Nova is based on unattributed hand-lettering found in an old book, circa 1946. Yet unlike many scripts based on a vintage source, it feels fresh and dynamic. This is due to the skilled hands of Holly Goldsmith, who gave the forms a contemporary vigor despite their age. Alternate glyphs with extended ascenders offer extra flair.

Designed by Morris Fuller Benton 1913-15, this Oldstyle family was digitized by Jim Rimmer in the early 2000's. It is a roman face closely styled to that of Nicholas Jensen's with a companion italic in the style of Aldus Manutius. Benton considered Cloister the ideal typeface and it does indeed lend itself to many uses.

In the 1930s the WPA (Works Progress Administration) sponsored a Federal art project. Many posters were produced that featured government-sponsored cultural events, health and safety tips and various other topics. Konrad Kachelofen was a printer in the city of Leipzig beginning around 1483. He printed many works by contemporary authors and also many of the classics. He acquired an unusually large amount of typefaces for his shop, a place that included a wine bar and book store. This type face is based on Typ.11:340G GfT510 Gesamtkatalog der Wiegendrucke and is similar to Proportional Lime’s “Kachelofen'' font. The major differences are that the whole miniscule set is slimmer and the majuscule set has different style glyphs and this face was used solely for titles and section headings because of its sharper and clearer appearance at large point values. Konrad probably died in 1529 after passing his business on to his son-in-law Melchior Lotter, who also went on to fame as an industrious and illustrious printer.

Hollywood Revue JNL gets its design inspiration and name from a vintage movie poster for "The Hollywood Revue of 1929". The letter style shows early Art Deco influences, yet the hand lettering was done in the late 1920s toward the end of the Art Nouveau period. MGM produced this early "talkie" all-star musical with a cast that included Jack Benny, John Gilbert, Conrad Nagel, Laurel and Hardy, Buster Keaton, Joan Crawford, Norma Shearer, Polly Moran and many others. This is the motion picture where Cliff ("Ukelele Ike") Edwards introduced "Singin' in the Rain" (composed by Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown). Years later, Freed was a producer at MGM and gathered up many of the songs he and Brown wrote during the 1920s to form the musical core of the 1952 Gene Kelly-Debbie Reynolds-Donald O'Conner musical "Singin' in the Rain".
