Dilemma is a sans/sans serif type system with 42 styles; it is inspired by the anonymous Polyphème, Cyclopéen and Extra Condensé designs from the early 1900s at the Peignot Fonderie. From these initial points of reference, Sudtipos went further and reimagined these projects for an actual use by blending them into a unique and complex type system. Dilemma is defined as ‘a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives, especially ones that are equally undesirable’ and that is exactly how we designed this font. We created a workhorse system where each style functioned well alone but would be more powerful when working as a team, pairing the sans styles with the serifs. In 1972, VGC released two typefaces by designer friends Dick Jensen and Harry Villhardt. Jensen’s was called Serpentine, and Villhardt’s was called Venture. Even though both faces had the same elements and a somewhat similar construct, one of them became very popular and chased the other away from the spotlight. Serpentine went on to become the James Bond font, the Pepsi and every other soda pop font, the everything font, all the way through the glories of digital lala-land where it was hacked, imitated and overused by hundreds of designers. But the only advantage it really had over Venture was being a 4-style family, including the bold italic that made it all the rage, as opposed to Venture’s lone upright style. One must wonder how differently things would have played if a Venture Italic was around back then. Chopper is Canada Type’s revival of Venture, that underdog of 1972. This time around it comes with a roman, an italic, and corresponding biform styles to make it a much more attractive and refreshing alternative to Serpentine. The Chikita design is rooted in the work of 1930s Dutch lettering artist Martin Meÿer, whose little-known work concerned itself with the beauty of letters mostly as individual forms, rather than part of a flowing alphabet. Dragonflight Pro is a script collection of four modern calligraphy fonts. Each glyph was hand-drawn with a brass folded pen dipped in ink. The tip of the folded pen resembles the shape of a dragonfly’s wing, hence the name. By tilting the pen variations in line width are made. This produces fun, expressive letters with a spontaneous personality. The regular and rough version of Dragonflight Pro have alternate glyphs that can either be accessed by the swashes feature, stylistic set 1, or the glyphs panel, depending on the application you are using. Milk Drops is a semi-casual-feeling cross between a didone and slab serif display font. Elegant, flourishy, whimsical and bold, as much as one font can be any or all of those things! It has highly contrasting weights, but not so much to take itself too seriously or risk legibility. Playfully, it entertains the teardrop motif wherever it can – in expected areas like the descender of a "y" and the ascender of an "f", but also in some whimsical flourishes. Many of the uses of the teardrop motif are implemented on the terminals and ears where many old prints may have suffered from bleed of ink – answering a "what if" question like "what if those accidental bleeds were designed on purpose?" or "what if a font were designed as though it was already seen through blurry eyes?" The Colville fonts began their existence in 2015 as a project-specific typeface, made to be used on a custom-made headstone commemorating Canadian artist Alex Colville (1920-2013) and his wife Rhoda Wright. For that purpose, some initial shapes were modelled after letters Colville himself had used on a Governor General gold medal he designed in the mid-1970s. From there started a year-long project that culminated in a set of four comprehensive fonts ranging in weight from Light to Bold, each containing over 750 glyphs to cover Pan European language support, stylistic alternates, five sets of figures, automatic fractions, and some ornaments rooted in Alex Colville’s art. These fonts exhibit a strong art deco aesthetic that has always been a favourite of architects, metal casters, and sign makers. Miss Mable is a high-quality, well-proportioned contemporary typeface with variations in thick and thin strokes that contains a hint of previous decades. I wanted to create enough weights and widths to make the typeface suitable for a wide range of uses where a soft, stylish, and friendly look is appropriate. Wardruna Arabic is a method of writing Arabic with a Runic-like alphabet devised by Devin Lester. He imagined that if some vikings had settled in the Middle East, they might have started speaking Arabic and writing it with a version of the Runic alphabet. This particular alphabet is based on Tolkien's Cirth Runes. A band of vikings went to Baghdad after raiding in Europe. The markets in Constantinople were closed as the Turks had just sacked the city. These men had heard of the great market in Baghdad and went there to sell their wares, seeing that this land was warm and fertile they decided to stay. They ended up settling the land and taking Arab wives and having children, because of thier Northern European accent their Arabic evolved into a part-Arabic dialect of Iraqi arabic. This is why today you see a few Arabs with green eyes and dark blonde or red hair. The Arabic alphabet was too fluid for them and vikings disdained the use of paper as a persons writings could be burned, so the evolved their runes to fit Arabic.

Since the release of his first typeface, Zulia Pro, Joluvian has spent his time dedicatedly experimenting with an array of calligraphic styles and typography, before starting on his second typeface, Salamat. The journey began on a trip to Asia, where Joluvian was inspired by his time in the Philippines. After a series of discarded type sketches, the first stroke of what is now Salamat was then born.   What at first was a quick sketch, over time, evolved into a stylized typography; that lends to humanistic-expressive calligraphy, optimized with wide variety of swash capitals, contextuals ligatures, ascending and descending, starting and ending letters and a wide range of characters for each glyph. Salamat provides the user absolute freedom to play, create words, sentences and even very stylized paragraphs. Giving one the freedom with type, the way the Philippines gave Joluvian the freedom to explore calligraphy and typography.   Joluvian considers Salamat a new benchmark in his career. He now possesses more typography maturity, and a refined focus to put into practice all the knowledge acquired in his recent years of study, for this and much more salamat ('thank you' in Tagalog) to the Philippines.

The design of Sabon® Next by Jean François Porchez, a revival of a revival, was a double challenge: to try to discern Jan Tschichold´s own schema for the original Sabon, and to interpret the complexity of a design originally made in two versions for different typecasting systems. The first was designed for use on Linotype and Monotype machines, and the second for Stempel hand composition. Because the Stempel version does not have the constraints necessary for types intended for machine composition, it seems closer to a pure interpretation of its Garamond ancestor. Naturally Porchez based Sabon Next on this second version and also referred to original Garamond models, carefully improving the proportions of the existing digital Sabon while matching its alignments. The new family is large and versatile - with Roman and italic in 6 weights from regular to black. Most weights also have small caps, Old style Figures, alternates (swashes, ligatures, etc); and there is one ornament font with many lovely fleurons. The standard versions include revised lining figures that are intentionally designed to be a little smaller than capitals. Mynaruse Royale is an expansion of Mynaruse Titling. It features script capitals and widely tracked and smaller titling capitals. Mynaruse Royale has plenty of character and, with its powerful and sharp serifs it draws in the eye. Mynaruse Royale is useful in settings that call for titling with an extra touch of elegance, such as a storefront, wedding program or formal invitation. Mynaruse Royale contains a number of OpenType alternates, including alternate forms for the capitals that are large, drop cap like capitals instead of the calligraphic script capitals found in the default forms. Additionally, there are non-widely tracked lowercase forms that work well with the included alternate characters and ligatures. The lowercase forms are 80% smaller in height than the Mynaruse lowercase forms, so the families are not interchangeable, but they can be used together. The calligraphic script capitals could also be used separately as drop capitals. New-Yorker-Type was one of the first typefaces I tried my hand at in 1985. I meant it as a revival of the typeface used by the New Yorker magazine. I did not scan it. I just looked at the type and redrew it completely by hand. Only much later did I come to know, that there is a bundle of similar typefaces of that period. Rea Irvin's design for New-Yorker magazine was just one of them, maybe the best. In the next step I repaired some of the mistakes that I made more than thirty years ago. Now on the eve of 2020 I gave the font a complete overhaul and added a set of Swash Initials, Cyrillic and Greek glyphs and many ligatures. The font now has 1075 glyphs and is all set for most latin writing systems. On top of that I made two versions, a Classic one with rounded corners and a pointed Pro version for a more up-to-date look. Take your pick. In 2019, P22 Type Foundry met with Milton Glaser (1929–2020) to initiate the official digital series of typefaces designed by Glaser in the 1960s and 70s. P22 Glaser Babyteeth is the first family released in the series. According to Glaser: “The inspiration for my Babyteeth type face came from this sign I photographed in Mexico City. It’s an advertisement for a tailor. The E was drawn as only someone unfamiliar with the alphabet could have conceived. Yet it is completely legible. I tried to invent the rest of the alphabet consistent with this model.” P22 Glaser Babyteeth was based on original drawings and phototype proofs from the Milton Glaser Studios archives. Over the years there have been many typefaces that borrowed heavily from the Glaser designs, but these are the only official Babyteeth fonts approved by Milton Glaser Studio and the Estate of Milton Glaser. The solid and open versions are designed to overlap for two-color font effects and can even be mixed and matched for multi layer chromatic treatments. Babyteeth includes an expanded character set to support the majority of Latin languages.

After the popular successes of Exocet and Mason, Emigre has once again teamed up with Jonathan Barnbrook to bring you his latest venture into type land. Priori is a logical progression from Mason, a typeface he designed around ten years ago. Where Mason was designed purely for display purposes and featured only caps, Priori includes lower case, companion serif and sans serif versions, alternates and, according to its creator, is shooting for text face status - a bold claim from a designer who loves to wear his influences on his sleeve and who has little use for typography that aspires to be "neutral" or "transparent." Like many of Barnbrook's typeface designs, Priori is based on his interest in British typography of the early 20th century. It is inspired by the work of famous British typographers, such as Eric Gill and Edward Johnston. But it also embraces all of the signage and lettering that Barnbrook observes in the streets, cathedrals, and public buildings of his London neighborhood. This mixing of native influences with a contemporary pop culture intent is what gives Barnbrook's types a distinct and unique flavor. Like its creator, Priori is a one of a kind.
