For Monumental Gothic, we delved into the archives and found some old rubbings and photos of monumental brasses from British tombs of the 12th and 13th centuries. The sources included famous monuments like the tomb of Richard II and less well known inscriptions with similar style lettering. The rubbings were made by Dave Nalle in the 1970s (when they still let you have access to the the brasses). Monumental Gothic includes some alternate characters, plus upper and lower case characters, numbers and a selection of very interesting decorative emblems to complement the text.

This variation in the Tangential series (see also the Standard & Rounded families) continues with the angles that give the typeface its name, however a semi-serif is applied wherever appropriate to create a more open, softer variant. The Tangential style I envisaged for the family is complemented by the prominent use of negative space throughout, most apparent on the drop shaped ‘o’ which is a key feature of the typeface and a letterform I'm particularly pleased with. Available in 2 weights, Regular & Bold, in both OpenType OTF & TrueType TTF formats.

Tiemann Antiqua was designed by Walter Tiemann in 1923 and appeared with the Klingspor font foundry. It is one of the modern book typefaces created in the first half of the 20th century, but differed from most in its Modern Face forms. It displays the same strong stroke contrast and flat serifs but its proportions have more in common with those of neorenaissance fonts. Tiemann Antiqua is an elegant, legible font suitable for books and longer texts, but also found in headlines, newspapers and magazines due to its classic yet unusual appearance.

Cooper Black The Cooper Black font should be used in display sizes only. Cooper Blacks serifs are rounded and the counters are small. Cooper Black was designed by Oswald B. Cooper for Barnhart Brothers & Spindler in 1921 for advertising and posters. The capital O and Q of the Cooper Black font are tilted back; in the lowercase, the dot on the I and j become elliptical. The extra bold Cooper Black font has a remarkable personality and reproduces well in sizes over 18 point in titles, subheadings and generally short sentences.

Breuer Headline exhibits a modern geometric structure tempered with subtle strokes of friendly humanism. Its neutral forms and sturdy rhythm are convincing without being forceful. The lowercase has a slightly casual feel. Set in all caps for a sterner message. Breuer Headline is the display complement to the Breuer Text family. Differences are found in the inside curvature of the lowercase arms and the simplified Oblique as opposed to the Text Italics. Breuer Headline is equipped with Small Caps, Old Style Figures, Tabular Figures, and a selection of dingbats.

Samuel Welo’s “Studio Handbook for Artists and Advertisers” contained dozens of hand-lettered alphabets used as inspiration for both the sign trade and for graphic designers. Intertitle Nouveau JNL – available in both regular and oblique versions – was originally an alphabet produced by a round lettering nib, and was first shown in the 1927 edition (later reprinted in the 1960 edition). It is reminiscent of the lettering used on intertitle cards of the silent film era. This font marks an amazing milestone - the 2000th release by Jeff Levine Fonts since its inception in January of 2006.

Belinsky is a monospace sans serif typeface inspired by early 20th century geometric sans serifs, architectural letterings, and retro video games to some extent. Its exaggerated proportions and sharp details appear less harsh thanks to the corner rounding. It is comprised of a standard and text families, and the latter is especially suited for small text and programming, with wider spacing and more centralised gravity of certain letters like E. It still gives your codes a lot of personality. The typeface name is a reference to the designer�s favourite animated film, American Pop.

The starting point for CA Slalom was the aspiration to create a contemporary interpretation of classics like Gill and Antique Olive in terms of aesthetics, flexibility and usefulness. The outstanding S soon became the visual hook and starting from the extra bold extended weight, CA Slalom evolved into a huge family with four widths. It’s rather round instead of squarely with stroke-ends pulled deep and a relatively low x-height. This gives CA Slalom a taste of its own, and although it is clearly contemporary, it has the potential to become a classic.

Indento is a multi-purpose modern geometric slab serif for headlines, posters, branding but fairly legible to be used as longer text. The straight and rounded corners combined with deep cuts and asymmetric serifs gives it a distinctive look while still keeping its rigorousness and legibility. The family consist of three weights, each with a companying italic. The extensive character set—513 glyphs in each font—includes support for Central and Eastern European languages and OpenType features like small caps, ligatures, fractions, slashed zero, stylistic alternates and more.

Glotona's Black & White are four modernist typographies written by hand and combinable with each other by layers to create multi-colored typographic headlines. Glotona is my tribute to Bodoni fonts, revolutionary fonts when they appeared in the S XVIII and still in force today. The great contrast between antlers, give foot to the design maintaining the elegance of the modernist typefaces, the manual writing and the roundness of the serif and antlers bring freshness and empathy, the careful configuration of the kerning and the proportions give maximum readability to these fonts.

Innocent until proven otherwise, Olivita is a heavyweight interpretation of the Typewriter genre. Typewriter fonts have captivated generations of designers and found its way into infinite applications, including Milton Glaser’s classic I heart NY logo. Olivita is a fat-face take on the same idea. There’s a lot to negotiate in making type as bold as possible, with shapes having to contort and distort in order to make a cohesive whole. The x-height is tall yet ascenders and descenders are long. Wood Type Calendar JNL is a set of components for making monthly calendar pages. Based on a set of vintage wood type numbers, the dates 1 through 31 are found on the "A-Z" and "a-e" keys; the 23/30 and 24/31 ligatures are on the "f" and "g" keys. On the "h" and "i" keys are blank outline and solid blocks for balancing the calendar layout. The "j" through "u" keys have the names of the months, and the "1" through "7" keys contain the days of the week.

Letterpress type, crafted by H. Th. Wijdeveld, founding editor and chief designer of the legendary Dutch art and architecture magazine Wendingen, provided the inspiration for this typeface. The original design graced a 1925 issue examining the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, and Wijdeveld created his typeface by assembling bits of standard brass rules. Elida JNL was modeled from an image of some wood type for sale online. Although the type design most likely has its roots in the classic Bodoni, there were a few characters in the original wood type that had a bit of a square or block shape to them. Those characters were modified in order to keep with the overall roundness of the other characters. The name Elida JNL comes from a small town in New Mexico. Available in six styles: Regular, Oblique, Extra Condensed, Extra Condensed Oblique, Ultra Condensed and Mega Condensed.

Scritta Nuova was born to transpose my personal handwriting and evolved today into a smart typeface that maintains the original feel with improved legibility and visual balance. The steady rhythm and roundness of Scritta Nuova give the impression of a smooth, girlish and gentle writing. It also evokes retro calligraphic styles taught in Italian schools around the 1950s, which might have influenced in one way or another my original handwriting. Note that the capital letters can be nicely set next to each other without overlapping, unlike script typefaces with swashy capitals created as initials.

Mr Chalk has a simple goal: being Mr Chalk. This font sets out to occupy a form indistinguishable from the real thing, and comes as close as ink will get. Looking at this font you can hear the scrabble of writing on a chalkboard, though the character is more of a mischievous child than a strict teacher. Round and free, Mr Chalk is a light and fluffy font ideal for an impersonal and friendly tone. Cooks call thinly cut - like matchsticks - vegetables "Julienne". I found that was a fitting name for this very narrow typeface. Julienne Slim is the extreme cut of the two. Personally I do not use narrow typefaces very often, but from time to time they come in handy if there is much text to be crammed into little space. I could make a typeface that was even narrower, but I will not do it. This is as narrow as my typefaces get. Enjoy what I cut for you, Gert Wiescher.
