While working on a font based on Spencerian Script (a popular late 19th century handwriting style) we did some experimenting with original designs which created the general feel of Spencerian and brought to mind the spidery handwriting of old ladies and Dickensian clerks. The result was Arakne, a spidery script font with a really striking look.

We created this family in an attempt to submit a Plantin's font pattern overview. So it is not a real historical font, but a "looking like". We have added the special East European diacritics (Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Croatian, Slovak, Slovenian, Sorbian ) and some other features. Our Italic style is resulting from a choice through the numerous possibilities.

Zuider Postduif was my very first font design 3 years ago and I decided to remake and extend it including the Cyrillic alphabet and some OpenType features. It looks pretty cool as printed text(lyrics, poems) and fits best for decorations, posters, menu carts for restaurants, brochures, newspaper headlines or logos. It’s comfortable to read above 12 px.

TREMELO a typeface based on a logotype (Microtel). We designed it as a complete capital alphabet. The original idea for the logotype font came from the products the firm produced. Meatball is a fat and happy display font based on some lettering on a mid-20th century poster for the movie Bringing Up Baby. The lettering for the names of the stars, AudryHepburn, Cary Grant and Charles Ruggles, was the basis for Meatball. The sample was all caps and as it evolved, a lower case started to appear, etc.

In an 1896 specimen catalog for American Type Founders there is a design called Geometric Gothic. The lettering style looks as if it’s ahead of its time; foreseeing the 1980s. Jh Fares is a modern / simple Kufic style font. The user may notice plenty of white space around the text leading to a highly readable font. The Kufic script is one of the oldest Arabic Handwriting, first appeared in el Koufa - Iraq. The original calligraphy was derived from the Aramaic letters; later it went thru lots of enhancements. Hesster Mofet is what I got after writing with an old and weathered calligraphic marker on textured paper. The characters were smoothened for a clean result, but since the original sketches had such a nice rough, edgy feel to them, they were also made into a complete font set. A couple of ligatures and a Hannibal Lecter reference were thrown in the mix as well. You can get both versions at a discount.

I enjoy and am inspired by many blackletter designs, but find that their uppercase characters are generally too complex to be very usable. I also found that very few, if any were designed with perfect 45 degree angles. I set out to design a textura blackletter with unique features and a usable uppercase. What resulted is an interesting, yet usable, geometric design with unusual features that make it stand out from existing texturas.

Goudy Stout was designed by Frederic W. Goudy in 1930. This version was created by Vincent Connare while at Microsoft. Goudy Stout is a decorative typeface that is quite unusual, a novelty of sorts among Goudy's many typographic achievements. The Goudy Stout font is considered a frivolous typeface. Now that there are more Studio K fonts than there are characters in the alphabet it occured to me that I should produce a sampler font that showcased them all: hence Variety. JennerikInfml is a friendly, casual typeface family that has the appearance of neat hand printing. It began as the italics to Jennerik, but I ended up separating it and giving it a different set of upper-case letters. Although its lower-case letters were designed as italics, it was originally published in 1992 with three weights as upright letters without a slant or skew. The revision of 2020 added the oblique or slanted styles.
