Mayonez is a typeface with rational structure and axis but softened with rounded contours and cupped serifs, getting as result a balance between seriousness and friendliness. The shapes have a soft appearance but without lacking definition. A more fluid structure influenced by calligraphy is proposed for the italic variants, in this case the uppercase letters adopted a simplified semiserif structure that works better with the lowercase letters. Also the figures are very different from the roman version and follow more faithfully the italic style. In an attempt to give Cyrillic lowercase romans a fresh look, symmetrical serifs inherited from the versal tendency are mostly avoided thus getting simpler structures closer to the latin forms. This type is good for commercial and editorial uses like advertising, packaging and pages with showy headlines where a warm touch wants to be given. The character set includes a group of figures and currency symbols with standard height and another suited to match better with lowercase letters. Mayonez was selected to be part of the Communication Arts Typography annual in 2015.

Ballet Mechanique is a custom designed font for musician Jeroen Borrenbergs, aka Ballet Mechanique. For his upcoming record releases Jeroen asked me to create a special font for him. As co-founder and graphic designer at Stoere Binken Design he creates his own artwork and therefor had very specific wishes. The font should be warm, soft and have soul. He gave me some sketches for his logo that I should use as a starting point. The result is a very narrow, kind of techno, monocased font called "Ballet Mechanique" (what else). After having served his purpose, Jeroen Borrenbergs allowed his font to be sold publicly. Jeroen Borrenberg’s debut work, in 1996, received hugely praising reviews. Muzik Magazine made Evolutionary Entities techno single of the month, Laurent Garnier and Mister C constantly played it in their sets and Morgan Geist just said “I won’t do a review here - let me just encourage all of y’all to listen to and/or pick up the new Eevolute 12″. Beautiful stuff - complex, melodic, soaked in just enough reverb to take it to another room. Check or regret.”

Bronto is a typeface that mutated many times: it went from being morphologically conventional, to have soft features, to finally have some inverted contrasts that made it more dynamical; but all this without losing sight of the meaning of a typefamily, and the aim pursued by this work: Bronto doesn’t behave as a piece of art, but as a tool. In some weights, this typeface possesses fluffy characteristics and is boldly bighead, while in other versions is slightly contrasted and controlled; this in order to maintain the essential features of the typefamily along the versatility and usability of the 20 variations that composed it. Bronto it’s inspired in neo humanists typographies of the 20th century, and in Chilean lettering. This kind of work was made by the spontaneity of the paintbrush, which gave an inverted contrast to some characters. This typeface has plenty of OpenType features, specially an extensive set of ligatures in all weights. Bronto is well suited for motion graphics, letterings, web, advertisings, magazines and books.

Love story is a display hairline typeface for use in big sizes and short texts. It’s inspired by different kinds of love and specially designed for Valentine’s day. Its soft curves and sweet style give it a lovely personality. Designed by Luciano Vergara and his wife Guisela Mendoza who has been studying ornaments since 2007 and has done her best for each project. You can see in her dingbats specially Printa and Abel designed for generate patterns. Now she integrated her passion to the ornament in a clean set which includes dingbats, ornaments and patterns. Luciano Vergara has designed very strong fonts with a particular work in the lines study and close to the geometry since 2005, getting a structure style, you can see in his fonts specially Regia and Kahlo. Now he integrated his study of lines, in a hairline font delicate, continuous and beautiful. In this story both designers have been merged their worlds creating a gorgeous product. Escalope is a hand-drawn font with a quirky and unique personality: low midline, unicase, all-caps, matching icons, textures, and the playful Stylistic Sets. 'Escalope Soft' has smooth outlines and sharp terminals. 'Escalope Crust One' is relatively clean but rugged, with an ink stamp outcome. 'Escalope Crust Two' is harsh in texture, with large coarse grains in its jagged outlines. 'Escalope Crust Three' is rather heavy-built, stout, defined, and less grainy. This type family has three alternating alphabets that slightly differ from one another. Thanks to the Contextual Alternates, the alphabets are automatically replaced, in turn, repeatedly to avoid the same letterforms and textures appearing next to each other. Stylistic Sets are also available. SS01 has underlined characters, SS02 has double-underlined characters, and SS03 has a mixture of graphic ornaments. These Sets can be used separately or combined. Rawhide is a fresh digitization and expansion of a very popular (yet uncredited) early 1970s film type called Yippie, which was commonly used in wild west cartoons and comics. Publishers of Lucky Luke, the famous Belgian comic by Morris, used these bouncy letters for the titling on a few of their soft cover editions, and different variations of it were used throughout the 1970s and 1980s by cartoon classic Looney Tunes and a variety of wild west animations and comics. It slowly disappeared without fanfare when desktop publishing became the norm. Here it is again now for the computer age, available as a high quality font with a complete character set that accommodates more than 20 Latin-based languages. In short, Rawhide comes with an impressive track record, and is a must for any funny cowboy design or off the wall wild west layout. This set of fonts contains a very expanded character set that includes full support for Central, Eastern and Western European languages, as well as Baltic, Turkish, Esperanto, Greek, Cyrillic and Vietnamese.

Raqmi was designed as a serif like font with relatively uniform glyph thicknesses, perfect simplified straight lines and curves, and emphasized isolated letters. This font family supports all Arabetic scripts covered by Unicode 6.1, and the latest Arabic Supplement and Extended-A Unicode blocks, including support for Quranic texts. It includes two weights: regular and light, each of which has normal and left-slanted Italic versions. The script design of this font family follows the Arabetics Mutamathil Taqlidi style utilizing varying x-heights. The Mutamathil Taqlidi type style uses one glyph per every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter, as defined by the Unicode Standards, and one additional final form glyph, for each freely-connecting letter of the Arabic cursive text. Raqmi includes the required Lam-Alif ligatures in addition to all vowel diacritic ligatures. Soft-vowel diacritic marks (harakat) are selectively positioned with most of them appearing on similar high and low levels—top left corner—, to clearly distinguish them from the letters. Tatweel is a zero-width glyph.

Houschka was named after Georg Houschka, a sadly defunct confectioner’s shop in Salzburg, Austria, which had a wonderful 1930’s frontage and distinctively rounded letterforms in the sign above the door. Houschka Pro is the follow up to the original Houschka type family which first appeared back in 1999. Character shapes have been improved, kerning and spacing refined, and OpenType features include CE, Baltic, Turkish & Cyrillic language support plus small caps, 3 stylistic sets, contextual alternates, ligatures and 4 sets of numerals. Houschka is a clean and legible modern sans serif typeface which shares the humanist qualities of Gill Sans and Johnston but retains a uniquely charming character of its own (particularly in signature glyphs A, G, Q, W, u & w). The monolinear structure, rounded corners and rolling curves give Houschka a soft and friendly appearance. Abdo Salem is the second version of the font FS_Salem which was designed by the type designer Abdulsamie Rajab Salem for Future Soft company fonts. It is a leading company in Arabization field and producing the Arabic and Islamic programs beside the children programs. This font appeared between 1998 and 2000. In this version there were a lot of adjustments to keep the font in its spirit and uniformity between the various characters. Also added some new characters, which gave him another beautiful addition to be used in both title and text designs. Three weights (Light, bold and black) have been created. Then the font was converted to OpenType to support Arabic, Persian and Urdu to be compatible with the various operation systems and modern software. The combination of modern Kufi and Naskh styles and varying between straight and curved parts made it a beautiful typeface appropriate to the titles and text, and able to meet the desire of the user in the design of ads and modern designs of various types of audio and visual.

A completely isolated letters typeface design with an overall Hebrew look and feel. Glyphs were designed with an emphasis on isolation and vertical feel with a visual connectivity measure to help easy reading. The Ibrani (Arabic for Hebraic) font family has two members, regular and left-slanted italic styles. This font family design follows the guidelines of Mutamathil Taqlidi type style with one glyph for every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter, as defined in the latest Unicode Standards, and one additional final form glyph, for the freely-connecting letters in traditional Arabic cursive text. Ibrani employs variable x-height values. It includes only the Lam-Alif ligatures. Soft-vowel diacritic marks, harakat, are selectively positioned. Most of them appear by default on the same level, following a letter, to ensure that they would not interfere visually with letters. Tatweel is a zero-width glyph. Keying the tatweel key before Alif-Lam-Lam-Ha will display the Allah ligature. Ibrani includes both Arabic and Arabic-Indic numerals, in addition to standard punctuations.

Vienna designer Viktor Solt has a love affair with handwriting. “Usually” he says “when I start with a specific calligraphic style I take some historic specimens and try to integrate their main features into my own handwriting.” Although there are hints of various 18th-century calligraphic styles in Ballerino it was not based on any historical model. The swash ascenders and descenders on the lowercase are all slightly different; this and the rough texture of the edges gives Ballerino a distinctly hand-written feel. The swash caps are meant to be used only in conjunction with the lowercase not to be combined with each other.

Polynesiac was discovered deep in the jungle on a cave wall on Gilligan's Island. "I was looking for ancient pictographs, and I find this crap instead!" says designer Wesley Poole. "But, the more I looked at it, the more I appreciated its charms." Sort of tropical, but not strictly Polynesian, this sans serif face never stoops to caricature, and achieves instead, a mysterious new flavor of the South Pacific Islands. Fun as it is, there's a certain dignity to it. "Living in Hawaii you just absorb this stuff. This is a fun loving culture. I hope I captured that, along with some Island Aloha."

Scala Jewels is a set of four highly decorative typefaces, based on the bold capitals of Scala. Whereas Crystal and Pearl are modelled on historic examples, Diamond and Saphyr are original designs.  Named after Herbert Spencer, an educator and researcher of legibility at the Royal College of Art in the sixties and seventies, and influenced by other early typographers and legibility researchers, such as Walter Tracy and John Harris. Spencer was designed as part of a legibility study by Sofie Beier and Kevin Larson.

When teaching font-making at the Art Institute of Tucson, I give my students plenty of lab time to come up with design ideas. I designed Pucky while one class created their fonts. It came about through an idea for a capital A: sort of a triangle with two round sides and a crossbar formed by a circle falling out. (You can see it here.) In drawing that, I hit upon the idea of making the tops of the alphabet sharp and square and the bottoms rounded. (See the whole alphabet here.) Pucky suggests both circus and psychedelia. Hmmmm, does anybody have an “in” at Cirque du Soleil?

Cullion is a new departure for Greater Albion, being a modern Fraktur, embodying future trends sch as highly stylised glyphs, a single case of lettering and highly evolved letterforms. At the same time it can trace its inspiration back to blackletter traditions, and is inspired by the sort of ironwork to be found in a medieval portcullis. The resulting typeface can sit happily in traditional, modern or futuristic design work. Ravenstonedale is a village in Cumbria, England. There’s not much to see in this quaint village, but the landscape surrounding it is beautiful. This font was sort of based on a number of handwritten letters by English author D.H. Lawrence. It is not a true reflection of the man’s handwriting, though, as I had to design a lot of missing glyphs myself; it was merely an inspiration. Ravenstonedale comes in a slightly slanted ‘regular’ version and a more slanted ‘Italic’ version. In order to stay true to the handwritten nature of this script, I have added a lot of ligatures, plus all the diacritics you could hope for.

This set of decorated initial letters was inspired by those used in 1510 in Nancy (France, Lorraine) for printing of "Recueil ou croniques des hystoires des royaulmes d'Austrasie ou France orientale[...]" Author Symphorien Champion, unknown printer. There were three sorts of initials family, but only one complete and clear, except a very few characters. The printer used some letters to represent others, as V, turned over to make a A, D to make a Q, M for E, So, the reconstruction was a little less difficult. Thorn, Eth, L slash and O slash were also added. The original font's letters was only drawn in white on a black background only, but it was tempting to propose a negative version in black on white. A few letters have multiple appearance, but only the A was clear enough to be reproduced. It can be used as variously as web-site titles, posters and flyer design, publishing texts looking like ancient ones, or greeting cards, all various sorts of presentations, as a very decorative, elegant and luxurious additional font... This font supports strong enlargements revealing its fine details and remaining very smart. Its original medieval height is about one inch equivalent to about three to four lines of characters. This font may be used with all our blackletter fonts, but as well with "1543 Humane Jenson", "1557 Italic" and "1742 Civilite", without any fear about anachronism.

Minnesota Plaid is the baddest plaid ever! It may not be the choice pattern for golfers' slacks or bagpipers' kilts, but it has a City-like flavor with its own twist, a stylish ruggedness & toughness that could even be described as a sort of formal graffiti, thanks to the art deco swash of many of its strokes. It’s the kind of look that would be perfectly at home with hip hop or rap music, football and other sports, cars and trucks, power tools, and other manly, masculine usages. The tale of Pumpkinseed began with a bit of hand-printing I noticed on the dinner menu at a local restaurant. I took a menu home for future reference. Several months later, some similar hand-lettering on another dinner menu caught my eye. I became a sort of connoisseur of hand-done menu lettering. After tweaking and adjusting a few of these menu-inspired (uppercase) characters, I placed them -- along with some other designs -- in an online Type in Progress survey. They won. So I finished the caps, drew out the lower case from scratch, created three weights and oblique styles. The result: Pumpkinseed, a full-featured casual hand-lettering face. Comes in Light, Medium, and Heavy.

Camden is based on the types used in Camden's 'Remaines concerning Britaine' published in London in 1638. The object was to avoid the contradiction inherent in most 'distressed' typefaces made to give the effect of the imperfections in old print. This means that apparently worn characters are perfectly repeated throughout a setting. The makeup of the Camden fonts means that, with a little extra keying time, alternate characters may be brought in which overcome this. Also many characters are provided which have 'period identities' such as the long s with ligatures, tied sorts ct, sp and st, swash characters in the italic and the double vv, all of which can add a specific age identity.

Beautifully Delicious is a new font family that combines an elegant extended sans serif fonts and a signature script. Both fonts create a harmonious union that can enhance your designs in the best possible way. I admit: I had a bit of a crazy week when I thought up an drew this font. I broke my arm during kickboxing training on monday, leaving me in a cast - unable to do most everyday things, like getting a good night's sleep (try sleeping with a humongous cast on your arm). Thank goodness, it is my left arm, so I can still draw letters and use my laptop. So… this font has been made entirely using one arm! It is a bit of a horror font - it sort of sums up my mood right now. Glyphs have very little spacing, adding to the evil look of Plague Master. Comes with a lethal amount of diacritics.

Footloose was a work in progress when its original designer, my friend and colleague Bob Alonso, passed away. Back then just 14 lowercase letters were designed so far. Several years have since gone by, but lately I took on the task of developing Bob’s design into a full-fledged font. The distinctive style of his supplied letterforms provided much inspiration. In blocks of short text there is a dynamic that communicates much verve and vigor, owing in part to gracefully curving lines and high contrast of stroke weight. I guess you could say that this project has been a sort of “passing on of the baton”; and I trust that Bob would have been pleased with the outcome.

The idea for Terra Ignota came to me years ago as I was admiring a reproduction of "Amerique Septentrionale," a 1650 map by French cartographer Nicolas Sanson, given to me by my parents. The handlettering has a sort of rakish character, evocative of pirates or adventurers at a time of unbridled world exploration. I ended up putting the project aside, but the idea to create this font tugged gently at my mind until I simply couldn't ignore it any longer. The resulting typeface has an italic slant and a deliberate feel, in keeping with its historical roots. Useful for simulating old hand-lettered documents. Has a full character set (and then some).

This font is a late 19th Century French script overview inspired by numerous French letters, from around years 1850-1860, during the second French empire, under Napoleon the third. Most of them were written with very tiny characters on light sheets of paper, as postage prices were calculated from the letter's weight. The TTF and OTF versions are enriched with more than 50 ligatures and/or alternate characters. We also offer a choice of two sorts of Capitals. Why "1859 Solferino"? It was the last battle of the Italian independence war, opposing the victorious Franco-Italian army to Austria in June 24, 1859. The Red Cross was inspired directly from the carnage remaining on the battle field.
