Chocolate Bar JNL emulates hand-lettering on the sheet music for a song selection called "Shoe Shine Boy" from Connie's Hot Chocolates of 1936 (an all-black musical revue). The lettering was not found in the song's title, but rather in the name of the show itself.

EngelNewSans is sans serif family of 12 weights and an upgrade of the typeface Engel also published by Die Gestalten Verlag. The project began with an extension to the original Engel character set and freshening up the typeface to suit the OpenType format. EngelNewSerif came about as a sibling to EngelNewSans as a corresponding serif family also of 12 weights, matching those of EngelNewSans. Both families are designed for a wide usage in running text and headlines. EngelNewSans is an evolved version of the original Engel typeface, which undergone improvements to the individual letterforms and the overall look which resulted in this sans serif type family with a more mature confident character and with softer, rounder and more harmonious shapes. The characteristics between the two could perhaps, very fittingly, be compared to a person showing different sides to their personality at different stages in life. With EngelNewSans portraying the more mature role while the original Engel shows traits of a cool teenager with rough edges, not yet fully developed. To make the light weights function with serifs attached for EngelNewSerif, the same low stroke contrast as seen in EngelNewSans was applied. Further discovery found that the serifs and the stem width had to be optically similar for the light weights not to appear too fragile. In the heavy weights however, the stroke contrast was higher than in the Sans versions, this was done to open up the counters and make room for the serifs to breathe. The intention of the families is to motivate an element of play and give the designer a larger selection to work with.

An old wood type we picked up in London from the Fredrick Ullmer Company. It's not marked, and we've never seen it in a catalog, so we don't know who made it. We like it for antique-looking western posters and playbills. We added the lowercase. We have seen it used on British music hall bills.

The City Burn, formerly called "The city burn night after night and we spray-paint the walls", was especially designed for Mad Skills Mag issue#3 Urban Flavour. It needed to be street, and urban, so I made a stencil font. It’s used by Fox5 tv for the rant TV show, the website infected.com, Fried chillies TV, and others!

Ruth Script is perfect for neon signs, we took as referents some of these signs found in the street, especially those hanging in bars, billiard halls, motels and night clubs, we also took into consideration the Photo-lettering One Line manual to solve ligatures and alternatives (We want to thank Ed Ronthaler for that treasure to study and learn). The scripts can be considered as a compendium of connections, aesthetic and functional alternatives, where all the possible word combination is a universe depending on the language and the user's creativity. We have developed a project that offers to our customers a bridge that connects the brush with the digital typography through a partial vowels and consonants control and ligatures with opentype programming. Crowd Funded fonts wasn’t really crowd funded… In fact, all of the funding came from me, as I had to buy paper and a new pen to get this font going! Kiperman is a text typeface designed in honor of Henrique Leão Kiperman, founder of the publishing house Artmed, now Grupo A. Its forms are simple and straightforward, with no unnecessary embellishments that could disturb the reading. The fonts are slightly narrower than normal, which yields higher efficiency without compromising reading comfort. Besides that, its italics are not just a slanted version of the romans, but rather a separate drawing. With a slope of 8°, its calligraphic structure provides the right amount of emphasis when necessary. The Kiperman typeface works best when setting books, magazines, ebooks and websites. It will also work very well in branding and packaging projects where a sober typeface is needed. The inspiration for the design came from the personality of the honoree. Just as Henrique always wanted to stay away from spotlights, the Kiperman typeface was designed so that it would not call attention to itself or impose any obstacles in the understanding of the text. Henrique Leão Kiperman began his career in 1958, selling medical books in travels through the interior of the Brazilian states of Paraná and Santa Catarina.
