We've always liked Art Gothic (you've seen it on the titles and credits for TV's Murder She Wrote) but felt it was far too animated for most uses. Here is our super-simplified version, a calmer font that will fit many display uses.

Inspired by mid-century greeting card hand-lettering, Sheree is a unique serif font with some really fun qualities. While some characters are distinctly calligraphic and conformist in nature, Sheree bounces all over the baseline, displaying an unconventional attitude all her own.

The capitals of the Triplett font bare a strong resemblance to Roman inscriptions, while the lowercase alphabet has been drawn with a rounded hand, inspired by the cursive uncial handwriting. Serifs are very small, giving a clean modern look to texts and headings.

The April 8, 1932 issue of The Film Daily ran an ad for a film entitled "The Sin of Lena Rivers". Hand lettered in a block style of chamfered characters, it is reminiscent of the 1920s, but still carries a touch of Art Deco influences with the thinner and extended horizontal strokes of the E, F and H. This retro sans serif design is now available digitally as Evil Ways JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

NYC Graffiti is translated into a lively comic letter-style that is highly engaging. It was our initial intention to develop a suitable lowercase for Les Usherwood's 'Elston' typeface, based on a few characters from an old German typeface called Hermes Grotesque (Woellmer, Berlin). However, the new design quickly took on a life of its own, and we decided to call it ‘Creighton’. Originally released as a four font family, we have now added eight more weights and made the entire family into 'Pro' versions for good measure.

Cowboy Burt was once a cowboy, but now he's a carnie at who runs the tilt-a -whirl. Samuel Welo was a sign painter who had published in the 1920s and again in 1960 his “Studio Handbook – Letter and Design for Artists and Advertisers”, prolifically hand lettering all of the type style examples within the pages of the publication. In 1930 Welo also published “Lettering - Practical and Foreign”. From this book comes a thick-and-thin hand lettered Art Deco alphabet – now available digitally as Sightseeing Tour JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Born in Fulda, Germany, Martina Theisen studied communications design in Mainz. She spent many years working for the television company, SWR Mainz. Now she works as a designer and illustrator. She creates fonts, as well as illustrates children's books and school textbooks. For Linotype Typentypo (2002, part of TakeType 4), she designed the display faces Linotype Creatures, Linotype Improfil Outline and Black (profiles of funny faces), Linotype Smileface, Linotype Maenneken and Linotype Astrolo (hand-drawn astrological symbols).

The Wright-Regan Instrument Company (Wrico) was one of the leading manufacturers of lettering templates for many years. Aside from their own line of products, they also did custom manufacturing. A series of lettering guides called “Mimeostyle” for the A. B. Dick Company of Chicago (produced for use in making mimeograph machine printing stencils) featured an art Deco squared letter design with rounded corners. This is now available digitally as Template Sans JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

Ben Harris' illustrated cover for the sheet music of "I Found A Million Dollar Baby (in a Five and Ten Cent Store)" from 1931's "Billy Rose's Crazy Quilt" lists the show's stars and other credits in a pen lettered monoline design with rounded terminals. This early Art Deco type style has now become the digital font Variety Store JNL (a reference to the Five and Ten Cent stores alluded to in the song title from the sheet music).

This crisp and constructed Ludwig Wagner, Leipzig, blackletter font in textura style had been originally designed by Berthold Wolpe. Freshly redrawn and redesigned, it adds now to the treasure trove of historic typefaces. This font contains a bunch of useful ligatures, and it is recommended to activate Discretionary Ligatures too. By typing 'N', 'o' and period plus activating Ordinals you get an oldstyle numbersign. As usual in my blackletter fonts, the # key is occupied by the 'round' s.
