When I first saw the scrapbook pages of Danielle Paradis, I was immediately struck by the funky-cool distinction of her handwriting style. I was inspired and felt moved to ask her for samples, from which to build a complete font. This warm and friendly font is applicable to a wide variety of uses. An informal decorative sans serif was designed by Gennady Fridman and released by ParaType in 2004. Based on informal lettering. In Russian 'Zubilo' means 'Cold cutter' or 'Chisel'. Colorful letterforms seems to be cut by an amateurish but strong hand used to operate with rough metal tools, not with pen or pencil. The face is good for use in advertisements, posters and headlines, especally for comic editions and youth press. Decorative styles were added in 2011 by the same author.

Surfoid is a bold, soft, hazy, lazy and sleepy font-dude that is most happy under an umbrella at the beach holding a drink with an umbrella in the glass. It’s fun, fun, fun until daddy takes the T-Bird away because of the problems that too much fun creates. It’s a rounded off, a little blurry on the lazy edges and would never want to be a serif font. Serif is not the style of Surfoid. Dressed up and sophisticated, this font never wants to be in a suit and tie. Happy is to be in tie dye t-shirt…with its feet dug deep into the cool sand. This is a display headline font best seen at sizes greater than 36 points. It is a full glyph set with upper and lowercase forms. Very Stoked.

While I was in Boston in 2014, I visited the Museum of Fine Arts and to my good fortune there was an exhibit of etchings by Rembrandt, one of my favorite artists. As to be expected, many were simply gorgeous, but one especially caught my eye. It was an etching of a priest (Jan Cornelis Sylvius, Preacher) with an extensive amount of writing in Latin. While I'm not certain that it was Rembrandt's own hand, the script was beautiful and I was fascinated by it because it had to be written on the etching plate in reverse. I snapped a few photos using my phone and later found other editions on line. I was so taken by the script that it begged me to create a modern typeface from it. The result is Saskya, named after Rembrandt's wife Saskia. There were many ligatures and glyph variants in the print, of which I captured many of them and made them accessible via OpenType features. The complete alphabet was not present in the sample, however, I discovered some other source material to sensitively fill in those gaps, with a remaining last few that I created myself. A truly romantic hand, Saskya will work well for invitations of many sorts, and when you're looking for that 'old thyme' scripty feeling in your graphics.

Laca is a semi-sans serif inspired by retro Portuguese packaging of soaps. Laca is the Portuguese word for hairspray. Houschka Rounded Alt is a carbon copy of the Houschka Rounded family with one key difference: the rounded signature glyphs A & W on the default positions swap places with their straight alternates. Houschka was named after Georg Houschka, a sadly defunct confectioner’s shop in Salzburg, Austria, which had a wonderful 1930s frontage and distinctively rounded letterforms in the sign above the door. OpenType features include CE, Baltic, Turkish & Cyrillic language support plus small caps, 3 stylistic sets, contextual alternates, ligatures and 4 sets of numerals. Houschka Rounded Alt is a clean and legible modern sans serif typeface which shares the humanist qualities of Gill Sans and Johnston but retains a uniquely charming character of its own. The monolinear structure, rounded terminals and rolling curves give Houschka Rounded Alt a soft and friendly appearance.

An offbeat alternate caps typestyle inspired by the title screen of a 1968 Walt Disney film titled, The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit. This playful and childish font comes with an extensive language set, a stylistic alternates feature that auto-alternates between capitals & lowercase (alt caps), as well as a contextual alternates feature that auto-alternates between sets only where double characters are typed like SS, TT, etc. The contextual alternate feature also enables a few titling word options like " the " " in " and " in the ". As noted in the quotes, when these word sets are typed with a space before and after them, it will trigger the swap when contextual alternates is on. Switching on Contextual Alternates enables automatic alternations between caps and alt caps like AlTeRnAtIoNs to create a more randomized look.

I set out to create a solid, bold, strong, rugged font, one that would lend itself to any industrial type of use, and by that I mean industry in general, but probably sectors that would still be considered male preserves such as carpentry or metalwork. I thought specifically of mortice & tenon joints, whilst toying with shape and form for this self imposed challenge. I was also visualizing a router tool used for producing most wood joints nowadays. I think the general premise worked out well; in the end I settled on the name Mortice, referring to the slots or negative spaces that the matching part, or tenon would fit into.

Nylon is an interpretation of pre-16th century letterforms, in particular those found in mediaeval portraits at the National Gallery, London. The source material contains many unusual and manic shapes—it appears as if these classical forms have, over time, become perverted, almost demonic. Draylon is the more restrained counterpart to Nylon; it is based on letterforms found on 18th century ceramics—some 200 years after the source material of Nylon. Nylon and Draylon have been designed so that they can be mixed together with ease. Both typefaces have been drawn with a kind of crude digital awkwardness—acknowledging the tool of the present moment, the computer, in the design process.

The type family consists of six well-distinguished weights, from hair-thin all the way to the one black as the deepest night. In line with the current trend, it touches all boundaries, it stretches beyond technical possibilities and in extremes, it is almost illegible – the counters are reduced to a hairline. All italics have the same proportions as their corresponding regular styles, which emphasises the block-like appearance of the set text. Monopol was designed to thrive on posters, exhibit stands, book covers, magazines, and in complex visual styles. Its twelve styles make it an ideal tool for creating a dynamic composition using solely typographic means.

Conamore is a new Humanist Sans family. It consists of 16 styles (8 weights and 8 italics). The structure of the typeface is in a position that is neither too modern nor too classic. It was based on humanist frame and style, but we controlled the shape and removed potential eyesores so it can be easily recognized. These characteristics are suitable for the design requirements, such as editorial design, packaging, branding and display.

Everybody likes to have a picnic: some fresh fruits, cheese, ham, wine and so on. Like a “typographic picnic,” Typnic font system gathers many fonts with different flavors too, and you can enjoy them mixed or on their own. Typnic was drawn and calligraphed by hand and is made with eighteen typefaces, including three totally compatible yet different styles. Baker Street was inspired by a recent trip to London, England where I happened upon a bustling pub with beautiful typographic signage. Early sketches created an array of specialized ligatures from which the font really took shape. The family is comprised of regular, italic, inline and a rustic textured style. Baker Street delivers a multitude of Opentype features, primarily including hundreds of discretionary ligatures that connect letter pairs through varying flourishes. These distinct ligatures are used in combinations between two capital letters, two lowercase letters, uppercase to lowercase pairs and specific number combinations. For a number of capital and lowercase letters, large swashes expand above and below the characters. Contextual swashes are also applied to some characters when placed at the beginning or end of a word. Stylistic Alternatives and Titling Alternatives offer distinct style variations to capital letters. Tabular Lining and Oldstyle Figures provide several numerical alternatives. Lastly, the family also includes two sets of ornaments created specially to work with Baker Street’s style. With all that, Baker Street provides each and every user the tools to solve their own case. Naroid Initials JNL is one of the most ultra-compressed sets of initials available in digital type. These twenty-six initials are so narrow that a test print with all of the letters at 2-1/2 inches in height took up no more than about 5 inches in width!
