Like many cities in the Midlands and North of England, Stoke-on-Trent has a rich history linked to making and industry. In Stoke’s case it was pottery. In the early 1900s bottle kilns could be seen covering the landscape of the six towns making up Stoke-on-Trent with hundreds of factories producing some of the best ceramics in the world. But by the 1990s most of these had gone. Torn down for development of housing or just left to rot. During the next few decades Stoke continued to change. The industry was in a decline and Stoke itself was seen as another poor midlands city with a dwindling industry. Then in 2008, Spode, one of the largest and most famousceramics factories in Stoke entered into administration. Pens cast aside, drawings left half finished, designs left in the turned-off kilns; Spode factory was abandoned. This was a real shock and the way everything was getting thrown into skips to be put on the tip was heartbreaking. Thankfully people salvaged some of the technical drawings, sketch design, old sample pieces and ceramics that people hard worked so hard on. Potbank has been in development over a number of years taking inspiration from the heritage and designs from the ceramics industry. It has a mixed Clarendon and Antiqua style structure with its main purpose to be used as a printed type.

The first release of XLaserTrain, a toy train font, was constructed by taking bits from the four LetterTrain fonts. Version 2, released in late 2010, added a great many cars with holiday and party themes. The bold version has smoke over the cars and you may have to adjust line spacing (leading) to have it display properly.

Spring Season JNL is a decorated and stylized Art Deco slab serif design from1935 which is based on the hand lettered title on the sheet music for “Paris in the Spring”. Lysergic is a smoky, swirly, super-psychedelic font that exudes 1960s vibes. This font is a tribute to the work of San Francisco artist Rick Griffin, famous for his psychedelic posters, creative lettering ideas, and especially his Grateful Dead album cover art. Keetoowah evolved from a just a few letters in a sketch for a sorority t-shirt design. They loved it and kept asking for more of the same. The only solution was to make a font. Tuscan X Condensed (whose actual name is Gothic Concave Tuscan Extra Condensed) was first produced in wood type by William H. Page & Company around 1872. The design is derived from a Gothic Condensed typeface, but with vertical stokes bowing inwards at the center. We modified the weight of the uppercase characters (since the original wood type has a lowercase much thinner than the caps) to harmonize with the lowercase when used digitally.

Holt is a sans serif font that works best at larger sizes and display. The substantial contrast between the thick and thin stokes lends it an air of elegance that would make it suitable for fashion design, magazine headers as well as a large range of advertising.

Epigraph is a font which has role models in the lapidary letter. The glyphs doesn't have serifs, but it has humanistic qualities and the nucleus of a serif. The differences between thick and thin stokes are small, and the font design is unobtrusive and graceful with traditional proportions. Epigraph has satisfactory readibility, it is suitable for the text and brochures headlines, catalogues, books and other typographic demands with historical, archeological and artistic content, as well as other etiquette. This font is based on a lot of the downtempo culture in Paris. Smoky bars, jazz clubs, that sort of thing.
