Fakir | A Hindu ascetic or religious mendicant, especially one who performs feats of magic or endurance. The well known feats performed by them include sitting steadily on a bed of nails and walking on burning coals. Blackletter | A script used throughout Western Europe from approximately 1150 to 1500. It continued to be used for the German language until the 20th century. Fakir, a blackletter with a holy kiss is a contemporary interpretation of gone letterforms with origin in blackletters. More precisely, we based the construction on broadnip textura, with lots of broken, edgy, interrupted strokes – try to sit on a nail bed and you’ll know why fakirs like to read just these kind of fonts! After being abandoned for some time (not accepted, nearly forbidden), we would like to give our generation a blackletter from here and now. So Fakir is not a revival, but an all new 21st-century blackletter. Fakir is a set of edgy text and display fonts, ranging from tight and heavy to light and wide. It has 11 fonts, all supporting Underware Latin Plus character set, that covers 219 languages.

With Behrens Ornaments SIAS presents a historic revival font for the very first time. Peter Behrens (1868–1940) was a German designer and architect rooted in the style of the Art nouveau era but later became one of the most prolific exponents of the modernist movement in the 1920ies and 1930ies. The design of typographic ornaments was one of many fields of his activities. The “Behrens Schmuck” set of adornment types layed dormant for many decades, known only to letterpress freaks and specialists. After 100 years, with this release SIAS celebrates one of the creative masterminds in German design history, unearthing a treasury of 80 unique ornaments and embellishment pieces for nowaday’s use. In order to attain a faithful remake as authentic as possible, the Behrens ornaments have been photographically reproduced from a 1914 specimen book. The outlines have been edited carefully to minimize accidental visual disturbances, yet the main goal was to keep the “smell” of the original letterpress printing as good as possible. If you like fine ornaments you should also have a look at Arthur Ornaments, Andron Ornaments and Leipziger Ornamente.

Shelflife is a display typeface with some extras under the lid. It features all the Standard Open-Type features you'd expect, like Class Kerning and Ligatures, plus some other useful additions and of course accented characters for most European languages and others. In essence it's an easy-to-read headline font with clean lines and a bit of character. There's an outline version that can be layered with the standard version to give the shadow effect seen in the accompanying graphics, simplicity itself to do. There's boxed headlines for SALE, SPECIAL, DISCOUNT (20 in total) all ready-made, plus some which can be tilted at an angle, and done automatically - just easily typed in; easy-to-do bullet numbers; a choice of square or rounded dots on j,ffi, and so on in Stylistic Alternatives; and shorter alternatives for U and N with accents. Details are included in the zip files. The zip file will contain both the OTF and TTF versions of the font. Install only one version, either the OTF or TTF, but not both - otherwise you will get all sorts of incompatibility issues and problems.

She doesn't settle for anything less than everyone in the room fixating on her, and every pair of eyes is indeed happy to oblige. Being both the noumenon and phenomenon of the party, she remains in your mind long after closing time. And you just know the next time you see her your heart will skip a beat and a welcome wave of contentedness will wash over you. The Chikita design is rooted in the work of 1930s Dutch lettering artist Martin Meÿer, whose little-known work concerned itself with the beauty of letters mostly as individual forms, rather than part of a flowing alphabet. Chikita was reconceptualized to strike a great balance between singular and flowing beauties, resulting in a cheerful and very memorable expression. Chikita is available in all popular font formats, and the character sets cover a wide range of codepages, including Central and Eastern European languages, Esperanto, Turkish, Baltic, Celtic/Welsh and Vietnamese.

Graphit is a typeface designed by Lit Design Studio & curated by HvD Fonts. It combines clear, geometric shapes with edgy yet finely-crafted details. Graphit features uncompromising characters such as G, Q, f, k and 1. It works well both for impactful headlines and for reading sizes. The type family consists of six weights plus matching italics. In early 2018, Livius Dietzel & Tom Hoßfeld started developing the typeface’s essential character and released a free font named after the studio, Lit. Just a few months later, Hannes von Döhren had a look at the typeface and suggested expanding it into a family – then publishing it with HvD Fonts. They drew every single letter from scratch, and also decided to give the font a new name — Graphit. The family features six low-contrast weights, ranging from Black to Thin. Every character has been crafted to give it a distinctive and individual feel. Medium, Regular and Light are optimized for usage in copy text. For smaller font sizes & longer body copy, the alternate character set features a double-story a and a simplified Q, f, r and t for improved legibility. All fonts are manually hinted for optimal performance on digital devices.

Upton is a modern and condensed sans serif. The initial inspiration for its design came from lettering Wim Crouwel created for a poster design. It also takes some cues from neutral grotesks like Helvetica and Akzidenz. Because of its narrow letterforms, Upton is best applied to headlines and poster-sized typography. Upton’s italics were designed with high-quality compensation for all circles and strokes. Upton ships in two different formats. Depending on your preference, you can install the typeface as two Variable Fonts or use the family’s 14 static OpenType font files instead. Those weights run from Extralight to Extrabold. While the static-format fonts offer a good intermediary-step selection, users who install the Variable Font have vastly greater control over their text’s stroke width. The weight axes in Upton’s Variable Fonts allow users to differentiate between almost 1,000 possible font weights. That enables you to fine-tune your text’s exact appearance on-screen or in print. Stylistic Set 1 substitutes in new forms for “G”, “R”, “a”, “f”, “g”, “i”, “r”, “t”, and “y”. Six more Stylistic Sets have alternates for the “æ”, “g”, “k”, “o”, “K”, “O”, and “Q”. Additional OpenType features activate other useful features, such as fractions, numbers in circles, or symbols.

Pueblito is a hand drawn font with a rustic and antique appearance. Was inspired from old books and newspapers but express a very own personality and not necessary represent a specific classic style. Inspired and derived from the serial numbers printed on United States paper currency, the tongue-in-cheek infringe typeface has grown from the alphanumeric set of characters that sit reservedly aside the faces of dead presidents. Taken out of their bright-green element, the characters have been given a life of their own, and have been joined by a one-hundred percent unique set of lowercase characters. The font stands out in both formal and informal uses and can be used for both headlines and supporting text.

Eldwin is a connected script type family with a friendly demeanour. The inspiration for Eldwin was drawn from traditional Italian and American sign paintings. For Vega antikva, too, 16th and 17th century typefaces stood models. I made a free interpretation of them, with a nice result, if I am allowed to express myself. Vega antikva makes a beautiful impression in books, but even as a web typeface it behaves well. The name Vega can be traced down to a constellation, a mathematician, a writer, a movie character, or a research ship, as you like. Now there is a typeface with that name, too. Vega antikva was released in 1994.

A 1918 lettering instruction book by William Hugh Gordon presented a number of lettering styles that were geared toward sign and show card painters along with tips and tricks regarding the correct construction of such signs for maximum effect. One pen lettered Roman alphabet with a beautiful set of numerals has been recreated digitally as Pen Elegant JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. To note, Gordon was the co-inventor of the Speedball lettering pen with Ross F. George in 1915.

Puchiflit is a typeface disguised as a pen script. I didn't create this typeface by importing the letters on paper and tracing them into a computer with a draw application. So I think it's a pseudo-pen script typeface. By the way, I used a famous Japanese maker's felt-tip pen as a reference for line widths. I thought, "Isn't this what it would look like if I wrote with this pen? I drew a line in the draw application while fantasizing about this.

Lettering designer Ray Cruz, creator of Bitstream’s VeraCruz, Fat Albert and Cruz Cantera, and many other typefaces, introduces Homeland BT, a finely drawn family of six weights, including two italics. The P22 Platten font family has been revisited and expanded by designer Colin Kahn. Platten is based on lettering found in German fountain pen practice books from the 1920s (you may have seen the similar Speedball books in the US). This round tip pen lettering is comparable to the basic forms used in grammar school teaching alphabets, but with a few original characteristics.
