Sticky Shoes was inspired by a sign at a local flea market. The artist behind the sign obviously didn’t care much about painting the letters “in the right way” - leaving a slobby and uneven impression. And what is wrong with that? Nothing, if you ask me. I tried my best to capture the charm and innocence behind that sign in Sticky Shoes. I even made the paint version go outside the outline in the Regular version! I added 6 different versions of each letter, and they automatically changes as you type. That goes for all 4 versions, and they even mix very nicely!

Linotype Zensur is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. This fun font was created by French designer Gérarld Alexandre and contains one weight. The characters look as though parts of each of them were censored or removed, leaving just enough left over to know what was meant. The basic forms of this font are sans serif and the rounded corners give it an almost soft character. Linotype Zensur is a distinctive typeface which is especially good for headlines in larger point sizes.

Koufiya is designed by Nadine Chahine in 2003 as part of her MA project at the University of Reading, UK and later released by Linotype in 2007. It is the first typeface to include a matching Arabic and Latin designed by the same designer at the same time with the intention of creating a harmonious balance between the two scripts. The Arabic part is based on the Early Kufi style popular in the 7th to 10th century AD. It is characterized by a strong horizontal baseline, horizontal stacking order, clear and open counters, and a general open feeling. Though based on the earliest styles on Arabic manuscript, the design paradoxically appears quite modern and fresh. The Latin part of Koufiya recalls a Dutch influence in its shallow top arches and rather squarish proportions. Both Arabic and Latin parts have been carefully designed to maintain the same optical size, weight, and rhythm. However, no sacrifices were made to make them appear closer to each other. They are designed so that they work well together on the printed page, and to make sure that the two scripts are harmonious when they are mixed together even if within the same paragraph. The font includes support for Arabic, Persian, and Urdu. It also includes proportional and tabular numerals for the supported languages.

This is the elaborate digital version of Edel Grotesque Bold Condensed (also known as Lessing, Reichgrotesk, and Wotan Bold Condensed) a 1914 typeface by Johannes Wagner, which was later adopted by pretty much every European type foundry, exported into the Americas, and used on war propaganda posters on either side of the Atlantic. Bold, condensed, yet clear and legible, Wagner Grotesk is good for cramming information into tight spaces. Extended language support includes Western, Central and Eastern European character sets, as well as Greek, Cyrillic, Baltic, Esperanto, Maltese, Turkish, and Celtic/Welsh languages. Cortland JNL was modeled [in part] from lettering spotted in the opening credits of Columbia Pictures 1945 Batman® serial. The classic clean lines of the Art Deco lettering used were perfect for translating into digital format.

A type between letter and number. Cypherals' fresh typeface is a mix-up of number parts and lines that reveal to be letters. So who is to say that numbers and letters don't have much in common?

Sharquefin is a round, constructed display face, which contains shark fin-like elements that rise out from part of its letterforms. Gary Tennant, a designer from the UK, designed Sharquefin especially for fun uses, like party flyers.

The Barnhart Bros. & Spindler foundry put out a caps-only face called Dante. We liked it, but felt it needed a lowercase. The result here is a rather nice square design, which has become a personal favorite.

A 1940s film taken around Coney Island happened to show a sandwich vendor’s stand with its hand painted signs. The stylized Art Deco lettering inspired Snack Stand JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.
