People might consider me a fool - they might even consider me a fool on the beach...because I take a swim in the ocean, even in the wintertime! Beach Fool is a simple but yet very strong headline font. It has its roots in both grafitti and comics, which makes it really powerful for graphical expressions that needs an extra punch!

Every time I bring my youngest son to his swimming lessons, I need to show my Covid Vaccination Pass; a QR code on my phone. I thought that I would be off the hook after I showed it the first time, but no, not at the swimming pool! It feels a bit like a bad comic book, so I decided to name this comic book style font Identity Check. Of course, I should have called it Covid Vaccination Check, but that is just too much and it probably won’t sell. Who wants a font called Covid?? ;-) Identity Check is a comic book style font. The glyphs are wider than I am used to (it seems I AM capable of learning new tricks), but the effect is rather nice. Identity Check comes with extensive language support, including Cyrillic and Vietnamese. Plus two sets of alternate glyphs, that cycle as you type.

Back in the days when we earned our living with a travelling magic show, we took the shaded font Lithotint, filled it in, modified some characters, and here is the result. In those days, to use the font we had to cut and paste stats of individual letters by hand. You have it easier!

Will Ransom designed the uppercase letters in this typeface for Barnhart Brothers & Spindler in the 1920s, under the name Clearcut Shaded Caps. The lowercase letters come from another BB&S typeface named Clearcut Italic. An elegant headline face, best used sparingly, the font includes decorative flourishes in the brace, bracket and en dash positions.

The highest and windiest mountain of Provençe is the Mont Ventoux. That is where I saw a pretty windy signpost in a very windy typeface that inspired me to design Ventoux. I recently added a Small-Caps style to it and overhauled the font a little bit without destroying its shaky appearance. Your not so windy Gert Wiescher

Samosata NF is based on Lucian Bernhard’s eponymous Gothic, but it employs all of the alternate characters seldom seen today. In one of our yearly type hunts, we came across the ancestor of this font, much wider and more decorative, with fine outside shading. Condition was poor so we did the obvious, cutting out the excess decoration and condensing the face optically. It reeks of dancing girls and drunken sailors and other colorful attributes of Old San Francisco.

Some vintage 1960s-era packaging for dive gear (masks, swim fins, etc.) manufactured by the Voit division of AMF had various merchandise boxes hand-lettered [with some variation of design] in an interesting sans stencil. These packages formed the inspiration of Dive Gear Stencil JNL. Thanks once again to Gene Gable, whom on many occasions has provided Jeff Levine material for type design inspiration.

Ovallique shares roots with its looser cousin Beachbuoy. But don't mistake Ovallique's casual parentage for hand me down genes. "AZEST" FONT — NEW, GROTESQUE This is a simple font, with a small number of accidental elements. The proportions are slightly stretched in width. One regular font. It can be put in interfaces or in communication materials, it will not be too active, but it will not slip into neutrality. Supports Cyrillic and some other scripts. Lowercase and uppercase characters, numbering, punctuation and diacritics, in general: all the necessary signs.

In 2011, while tutoring an exercise on Slab Serifs, Josema discovered Robert Thorne’s work for Thorowgood. Specifically, he was fascinated by the extraordinary density of the 6-line Egyptian Pica from 1820-21. As a simple exercise, he wanted to test the limits of readability within the context of a contemporary alphabet. Rothwood Ultra is the result of this experiment. As a way of developing the series, he found it interesting to go to the opposite end of the spectrum and discover how to evolve the extra-black Ultra’s DNA into a super lightweight model. The Hairline and Thin styles are her slim sisters. The third challenge has been the creation of the text version. Light, Book, DemiBold and Bold, including italics and Small Caps close the Rothwood cycle for editorial use.

Slabton is a font family in the slab serif style. There are six defined weights, from thin to black, and six italic weights as well as a variable font. All latin small caps are integrated and the font contains a lot of useful open type features and options. Also, there is an additional shaded decor style for decorative matters and elements like headlines and initials.

Ademo is a classic, shaded and perspective looking display font. I believe it was Picasso who had a Blue Period between 1901 and 1904. It seems that I have one myself - really not comparing myself to Picasso btw… Recently I created Blue Sheep font and now this one: Little Boy Blue. Little Boy Blue is a very legible, easy-on-the-eye font for texts, books, covers and packaging. Comes with 50 shades of diacritics.
