CrappyJoe got its name because I wrote all characters with a felt-pen with a broken tip. It's still very readable though.

Milton Glaser’s Kitchen Typeface from the mid 1970s exemplifies the bold 3-D art deco revival genre that was a trademark of the Glaser style. This typeface resulted from his involvement in the design of the The Big Kitchen in the World Trade Center’s concourse in New York City. The new P22 Glaser Kitchen takes on the technical challenge of overlapping 3-D shadows by offering two styles. P22 Glaser Kitchen Regular is spaced out so that the shadows do not overlap the white spaces of the neighboring letters. Whereas the P22 Glaser Kitchen 3D Fill and 3D Shadow can be used layered on top of one another to achieve the tight spacing intended by Glaser. P22 Glaser Kitchen was based on original drawings and phototype proofs from the Milton Glaser Studios archives. Typographic punctuation and sorts were imagined by James Grieshaber to work with Glaser’s design, as well as diacritics to accommodate most European languages. Over the years there have been many typefaces that borrowed heavily from the Glaser designs, but these are the only official fonts approved by Milton Glaser Studio and the Estate of Milton Glaser.

I originally wanted to call this font Instant Pudding. When I was a kid, we sometimes had instant pudding (the ‘add cold milk and rest in the fridge’ kind) for dessert. My brother and I loved the stuff, especially when some of the pudding powder had not dissolved and had turned into brightly coloured speckles! But this font, alas, did not ‘feel’ like instant pudding, so I hunted the internet for other, more obscure, puddings. I found Spoonbread. Apparently it is a pudding-like Southern American dish, made from cornmeal. I have never tasted it, nor do I particularly like corn (most of it is GMO anyway), but the font and the name became friends. And who am I to tear this beautiful relationship asunder? Spoonbread - use it for your packaging, your books, your posters and your games. And when you make Spoonbread, use organic cornmeal!

The name "Smart Casual" says it all. This is the font to use when you want to create that smart impression without being too formal. It is based on the font "Black Tie" but it is less formal than "Black Tie". It conveys an impression of relaxed elegance without being either sloppy or too intimate. Smart Casual is ideal for invitations to stylish but relaxed events, for advertisements that are intended to create that special ambience, for posters and for announcements. Smart Casual has a full character set and has been carefully letter-spaced and kerned. It comes in two styles: Baseline and Staggered. In "Baseline" all characters refer to the same baseline (the lower part of the characters are in line), while in "Staggered" the capitals are placed lower than the lower case characters, creating a slightly more dramatic, yet formal and retro look.

Fulgora is a sort of ‘calligraphic typography’ or ‘typographic calligraphy’, depending on the point of view. Inspired by late-medieval Bâtarde and Civilité blackletter styles, the Kannada and Sinhala writing systems from Southern India, Celtic uncials, and diverse vernacular Mexican scripts, Fulgora was created straight from pen on paper as a personal calligraphic style where fantasy in the chief ingredient. The idea to take it to the digital realm came later, as an extension of the creative process. To this end, originals for each character were made, directly traced with the nib with no retouching, then vectorized to be digitally assembled. Work has been done on spacing and kerning with the aim to digitally reproduce an utterly calligraphic outcome keeping the natural, imperfect, manual finish of all signs. Fulgora has two variants: Blanca (white) and Negra (black), executed with different nib widths but the same style and proportions.

MIR Next is a growing multi-script type family best described by the terms “humanist–semi–slab-serif”. Its character set contains Latin and Cyrillic, both extended, as well as Greek, covering more than 100 languages. Strong personality along with consistency between language systems were a basic aim when designing the family. As a result MIR has become a great tool for branding and international identities. A wide choice of symbols and numbers makes it also very useful for statistics, texts about mathematics and the sciences. Serious things are best be said in an unpretentious, relaxed way. MIR gives typography exactly that kind of appearance. Its texts emit a sense of authority but stay easily accessible at the same time. MIR’s name comes from the old Russian word Мир meaning both “world” and “peace” – a unity we will hopefully take for granted sometime in the future.

Warm and inviting— DeSoto is a titling face sure to add a touch of grace to many projects. Its name and inspiration come from a few letters in a 1958 DeSoto magazine advertisement. Many automobile ads back then used wide faces to create a feeling of luxury and elegance. DeSoto gives you that same feeling, but in a more contemporary fashion. DeSoto’s extended width characters show a hint of old school aesthetics. It comes in four styles all featuring a balance of caps and smallcaps. As a titling face, DeSoto will work in all kinds of setting; well… maybe not death metal flyers, but who knows? 1977 was a good year for soccer. Attendance for the North American Soccer League (NASL) grew 33%, to 13,000 per game. Brazillian soccer legend Pelé played his final match, kicking for both the New York Cosmos and Santos of Brazil. And a soccerboy named Charlie was crowned with the nickname Chanky. In honor of his soccer hero Pelé, Charlie insisted the neighbor kids call him Chelé. They laughed at him and called him Chanky after Spanky from the Little Rascals. As he grew into his manhood, he became Chank the internationally renowned font designer. Chank created this font Soccerboy, as filtered through the artistic eyes of his 1977 childhood. It's a tri-line font, hand-drawn in Chank's signature cartoon whimsy. Soccerboy encourages play with color and alternate characters. Create coloring effects yourself using layers and the magic wand and paint bucket tools in Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.

'Snatched' is a spontaneous handwriting. This name is taken from the slang term in the 2022 era to describe someone or something in a positive manner. In response to many requests for Morpheus, an idea came to us. Why not make a font that looked a bit like Morpheus, but which had more attractive, more consistent character forms, was rendered cleanly and properly spaced and kerned? We took a look at Morpheus and decided to redo the concept from the ground up, replacing some of the amateurish characters, adding a bit of a Celtic look and feel, developing a set of alternate characters and making sure that the design elements were consistent from letter to letter. The result is Orpheus, a font which has the general look and feel of Morpheus, but is a much more complete and fully realized design. In addition, Orpheus is a fully developed font set, with not only regular and bold versions, but with a special customized italic style and a really neat looking heavy weight rough-outlined variant.

With a stylish Dutch accent, this font draws inspiration from a 1935 brochure by the talented graphic designer and artist Dirk Hart. Shàngó is CastleType’s beautifully-rendered interpretation of Professor F.H.E. Schneidler's elegant titling typeface released in 1936 with the name 'Schneidler-Mediaeval mit Initialen'. This latter design is usually referred to as Schneidler Initials. Although early on Medium and Bold weights were added to the somewhat delicate design of Shàngó, it seemed there were other possibilities that might be useful for display use. So, for the last couple of years I have been working on and off on a monoline version of Shàngó. This new design maintains the classic letterforms of the original, but its relatively even strokes gives it a more solid appearance, making it useful where a more modern, masculine look is needed. This new family is called Shango Gothic and is available in four weights: Regular, Medium, Bold, and Extra Bold. Shàngó Gothic is a member of the extended Shàngó family (Classic, Chiseled, Sans, Gothic).

Packing more copy in a narrow space is the main reason for using a condensed type. Characters with a more ovular shape tend to be less wide than their circular counterparts and will allow for more letters per line. In narrow columns for example, this typeface can provide up to 25% more copy than the regular typeface in the same space. Another reason is when a larger type size is called for — used sparingly it is useful for headings or headlines. For emphasis, narrower letters can provide a stark contrast in the flow of reading, creating impact while retaining typographic character. Condensed types can specially useful in tables and charts because typically both use few words in each block. If space now allows, you may think about the luxury of a larger point size. This optimizes space while keeping your typography more easily legible.

Created with the needs of branding design in mind, Jan Hendrik Weber's Unitext is a crisp, clean typeface that functions well across print and online use. It blends humanist and grotesque qualities, adopting a style that the designer describes as “neo grotesque”.
