Uplink is decorative upright lettering with heavy calligraphic influences and clear friendly forms. Stevens Titling refers to the classic Roman alphabet as it appears on the Trajan column and numerous other monuments. With its realistic brush strokes, it shows the letterforms as they might have been sketched on the marble before the stonecutter reached for his hammer and chisel. The four fonts that constitute the Stevens Titling suite are named after animals — badger, boar, sable and wolf –, each known for the specific character of its hairs when used to make painting brushes. Sable Brush is the most formal and elegant, with solid forms which show no obvious trace of the handdrawn brush stroke; it comes with a set of small capitals for those classical titles preferred by Hollywood. In fact, each of these fonts would do a great job as a film title and poster font. The Badger Brush variant is compact and firm; Boar Brush is dramatic, and in Wolf Brush each part of the letter is made up of realistic, dry strokes.

Strak is a font that was born out of admiration for the work of E. Vermeulen, a Belgian artist known for his tight, precise line and an unseen masterpiece that is spread around the world. He has published and exhibited his work in London, Liverpool, Angoulême, New York, Geneva, Amsterdam, Lyon and Turku (in Finland) and he even signed for the New York Times. Based on a few characters, a complete font was composed by Kustomtype. After a few sketches, Strak came to life. Typeface Laborat™, designed by Kristína Jandová, is a Grotesk typeface that combines the geometry of a circle and a square. The visual message of geometry is applied to stylistic sets and modified by special characters, including abstract forms or symbols, that turn the typeface into a visual “graphic” language. The basic character of the typeface lies in the default set based on the circle-like shapes of letters. The stylistic sets 01 to 03 are characterized by different geometrical modifications of the growing character and the idea “from circle to square” applied on the letters a, f, g, l, r, t, u, y. By using these different alterations of consistent letterforms, it offers a playful space for everyone. The first inspiration of the typeface origins in Paul Renner’s Futura sketches, that were a celebration of geometrical playfulness of modernism meeting constructivism. WAVE is characterized by curved lines and intricate details. Each character was individually made in Illustrator and Type Tool using my original illustrations. Wave is a decorative font best used for titles or short bursts of texts in large point settings. The typeface is based on the uppercase letterforms, but I have also created lowercase letters, numbers, and glyphs. The motion lines used in the making of Wave mirror an art deco-style. Inspired by an illustration of a large wave, I was fascinated that by using only lines and solid colors we as artists can depict the translucency and ever-changing movement of waves. I began by delicately sketching out all of the letters using graph paper and micron pens. My work always begins with traditional media. Linotype Franosch™ is a three weight display typeface designed by artist/graphic designer Max Franosch. Around the time of making the initial sketches, Franosch was looking a lot at Arabic newspaper and magazine headlines. He was drawn to their bold and very graphic" type. Imagine being printer in the early nineteenth century, your stock isn’t the finest, your lead characters are worn out: Voilá Kandidat Rough. But wait, Kandidat isn’t the usual scan-an-old-book,-put-the-glyphs-in-a-font-and-you’re-done-font. Kandidat Rough has a variety of whopping 14 alternates for most characters. Our algorithm changes the letters automatically. All you have to do is turn on Contextual Alternates in your layout app. The algorithm is the best we’ve seen so far, and it’s so good that even same words appear in different forms. And should by coincidence words have the same glyphs, just assign a different Style Set to the first letter, and all other letters in the word will change as well (well, it depends a bit on your software). The mechanism isn’t perfect and maybe we stretched OpenType capabilities a bit over the top, but we yet haven’t seen any better routine for switching letters on the fly. Is it worth to mention that Kandidat Rough not only speaks English, but also German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Croatian, Turkish and most likely some other languages? Maybe. I use this word quite often (as this world, unfortunately, seems to be full of numpties). And guess what? Now you know what it means, you can use it too! Hooray! Numpty is a fat, rounded display font. A little uneven, a little weird, but with enough panache to make your designs stand out.
