Tudor Perpendicular is Greater Albion's seasonal Black letter release (not that we rule out the possibility of non-seasonal ones...) for 2012. As the name suggests, it is a design which emphasises, and yes, exaggerates for effect, the perpendicular up and down nature of Black Letter typefaces. There's no particular historical basis for this one - straight out of our own minds, just as a lot of Black letter 'revivals' have been over the years. Come and visit 'Ye Olde' world today...

Back to the past when the old building and the beauty of a old store decorated by distinctive signage. With a clear feels of authentic historical value and the today's needs must be balanced in order to create the nostalgic feels. Introducing an authentic touch based on old fashioned signage developed into the wood type feels, and it's called Dealers. Dealers is a development of the classic taste wood type to form a solid blocked shapes, modern serifs, and with all caps based characters and slightly condensed. With specific characteristics, dealers font is intended for coffee shops, stores, restaurant menu that you want to create the impression of a classic and harmonious. With the addition of catchwords in the OpenType features, allowing you to be more creative to meet the requirements on the design you create.

"Humanista" is the name of a multilingual chancery script font by Bertram Kaiser. The idea in this long-term project was to blend the boundaries between analogue calligraphic handwriting and designing a font digitally, while using all technical possibilities of modern type design. All glyphs were originally written with a broadnib and then carefully vectorized, creating a human charme inside the font. In this design you will find influences from great calligraphy masters like Hermann Zapf or Werner Schneider. The pro version comes along with a big variety of alternate glyphs, initial and terminal forms, swash capitals and ligatures, which gives you the possibility of designing individual text layouts. Inside the font you will also find a set of italic roman capitals plus fitting numerals and interpunction, which can be treated like a font itself. You can activate them through the Open-Type menue (stylistic-set 4) or set manually via the glyphs window (ADOBE applications). When using the feature "swashletters" make sure to also activate the feature "contextual alternates" to get an appealing textdesign with alternating swashletters. This font can be used for display sizes as well as for smaller textsizes like on Invitationcards or in magazines.

This typeface design was influenced by the British Rail corporate type introduced in an old lettering instruction book published in Japan. Of course, the only clue to this typeface is the lettering instruction book at hand. I started with the Bold design first. Then I designed Light, Regular, and Black in that order. The typeface family Triump is a simple sans serif with 6 weights from Thin, ideal for use as an epigraph, to Black for head titles of special impact. Singolare is a contemporary geometric Sans Serif with angular terminals and a great x height. Its main feature is the style difference between the lighter and heavier weights. The more weight it gains, the higher its singularity. With its weights, styles and layers variety, it's perfect for display use and short texts that require a visual impact. Singolare is composed by five weights, from Ultralight to Black. Every weight has its own stencil variation with expressive cuts and four decorative versions: three outline and one inline version, that can work on it’s own or overlapped to the black normal version (changing the colors of each layer) in order to amplify its usage possibilities.

Egon is a contemporary Slab-Serif typeface family built in ten styles—extra-light, light, regular, bold and black weights in roman and italic respectably. This is a refreshed (second) edition of Egon Serif, originally designed in 2008. The typeface has been updated—four new styles in ExtraLight and Black weights were added to the family and minor adjustments to glyph shapes (mostly italics) have been made.The typeface is designed with industrial and architectural flavor, as homage to Egon Eiermann, one of Germany’s great architects of 20th century. ATF Headline Gothic cries out to be used in headlines, and that is exactly how it was used after it was first created by American Type Founders in 1936 with newspapers in mind. It would be hard to imagine a better typeface for a shocking, front-page headline in a scene from an old black-and-white movie. With its all-caps character set, and its big, bold, condensed design, ATF Headline Gothic is the epitome of its name. “Extra! Extra!” The style of ATF Headline Gothic recalls the bold, condensed gothic display faces of the 19th century, but with more refinement in its details than many large types of the time (typically wood type). Its most recognizable trait is the restrained, high-waisted M, with short diagonal strokes that end with their point well above the baseline; this avoids the sometimes cramped look of a bold condensed M with a deep “V” in the middle, common in many similar headline faces. The digital ATF Headline Gothic comes in a single weight, all caps, like its predecessor, but offers two styles: one crisply drawn, and a “Round” version with softer corners, to suggest a more “printed” feel, reminiscent of wood type. Of course, in either style it includes a full modern character set, including symbols such as the Euro, Ruble, and Rupee, that didn’t exist in 1936.

Decano is a modern sans serif, ALL-CAPS, display font. Using a ten-sided polygon, or decagon for the usually circular characters and employing similar angles for the rest of the character set gives us some strong and interesting word forms. It’s great for branding, headlines, and signage.

Display Prominent is a display font not intended for text use. It was designed specifically for display, headline, logotype, branding, and similar applications. In place of a lowercase there are short caps that are centered horizontally on the tall caps. There are also short numbers, punctuation, and miscellaneous characters.

A vintage hand-punched brass stencil for the Pasadena Playhouse spotted online was the basis for Theatrical Stencil JNL. Slight variations in the letter forms from other similar designs might not quickly be noticed, but there is always a charm in the hand-made look of any stenciled lettering.

Buttered Toast is something a lot of people enjoy every day; when I was working on this font I was hoping to create something similar: an uncomplicated font enjoyed by many. The resulting typeface is exactly what is promised on the package: Buttered Toast is unobtrusive, yet quite refined. It may even be taken for granted, but I sure hope it will be used and enjoyed by many. Buttered Toast comes with a generous helping of diacritics.

Gothic 13 is a bold condensed sans serif typeface. Originally designed in small sizes, Gothic 13 is very similar to Modern Gothic Condensed, which was a turn-of-the-20th-century modernization of a popular nineteenth century style. Until Linotype integrated it into their technology, it did not exist in sizes larger than 24 point. The design used for digitization was the 18-point. Gothic 13 is ideal for display work, especially where space is at a premium.

Horndon is a decorative revival of late art nouveau style typefaces. The robust, high waist forms of these letters lend a unique, early 20th Century feeling of optimism to text designed with them. The letterforms themselves have adapted a three dimensional appearance: they each sport an individual drop shadow. Horndon is an all caps typeface, which was originally designed in 1984 by Martin Wait for Letraset. A similar art nouveau typeface, Galadriel, is also available from Linotype."

Receptor is a geometric monospace display font. The typeface is made from single basic square geometric units grouped together to form a whole. The name is derived from the word 'recept' meaning an idea formed by the repetition of similar or successive percepts of the same object; in science a receptor is a chemical structure that receives and converts signals. Receptor is great for display work, logos, structures, architecture, technology, biology, sports, monograms, quotes, headings and posters.

Pentagram is a typeable three-letter Pentagon monogram font. You can type Monogram a pentagram with a mapped border on the numbers 0-9. With the support of alternative contextual features It works automatically so all you can do is just type. The hand lettered title found on the 1924 sheet music for the tango “Sentimiento Gaucho” (“Sentimental Gaucho”) offered a different take on the thick-and-thin lettering that permeated the late 1920s through the Art Deco age. A ‘slash’ or ‘swipe’ is cut through the characters (similar to “Directa JNL” – another take on this type of design). Last Tango JNL is the digital recreation of this novelty lettering and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Erich Fehrle designed this robust alphabet for headlines and titles in 1976. The constructed figures of Linotype Fehrle Display were built on the geometric form of the rectangle. Lines of text look closed and compact. The letter forms are the result of fine open spaces. Design-specific characteristics of Linotype Fehrle Display are its serif-like additions to the strokes of the figures a, c, G or M, and the alternating rounded and angular outlines of the figures a, e, s and others. Typefaces similar to Linotype Fehrle Display: Bigband, Frutiger 95.

German designer Anne Boskamp created the Goodies font family in 2002. These two fonts, Goodies A and Goodies B, are both very illustrative, and their letterforms look similar to the drawings and paintings of Joan Miro. Using Goodies in your work adds a personal, sensitive creative touch. The design of the Goodies fonts lend it to use in larger point sizes, where the expressive quality of the line may be seen inside these elegant creations. Both fonts are included in the Take Type 5 collection from Linotype GmbH."

For Monumental Gothic, we delved into the archives and found some old rubbings and photos of monumental brasses from British tombs of the 12th and 13th centuries. The sources included famous monuments like the tomb of Richard II and less well known inscriptions with similar style lettering. The rubbings were made by Dave Nalle in the 1970s (when they still let you have access to the the brasses). Monumental Gothic includes some alternate characters, plus upper and lower case characters, numbers and a selection of very interesting decorative emblems to complement the text.

The font Pillar is inspired by steel pillars that support buildings and bridges together. In similar fashion, the font is designed to support the content for which it will be used. The font is intended to be used as a header or headline font, but a creative designer will find other uses for it. Most of the characters are based on the same rectangle and therefore contain the same width which displays symmetry. The font contains 242 glyphs which include: uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, symbols, accented characters, and ligatures.

Along Sans Grande is an ultra condensed sans serif font family developed based on the typeface styles of the Along Sans Geometric Font Family. In the case of the black weight with the largest change in the size of the stem, the size is 180:140:100, respectively. And, the thin weight style has the same proportion of stem size. Some Glyphs that need to support the stem alone remain a size 222 for Black Weight. These interpolation rules are sufficient to complement the rhythm and readability of the whole family. This family is perfect for special titling works, logo designs, and cool showcases.
