The Jantze font is a project undertaken by Dan Bailey of Fontosaurus and Michael Jantze, creator of the nationally-syndicated comic strip, The Norm. All their royalties from the font will go to The Lance Armstrong Foundation. For those that have been living under a rock for the last five years, Lance is a professional bike racer that overcame advanced testicular cancer to not only come back to his sport, but to dominate its premiere event, the Tour de France. In climbing to the top of his sport, he has become a legend among cyclists and a beacon of hope for those battling cancer and their families. His foundation provides financial grants to researchers working to improve our odds against the disease, individuals stricken with cancer, and survivors of the disease that are advocates for survivorship issues in their communities. Michael Jantze and Dan Bailey would like you to consider the quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson that brought us to this project: "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well. Kaikoura is a small town on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It is a very pleasant, laid-back place where the mountains meet the sea. Kaikoura is also the best place in the world to spot sperm whales. Kaikoura font is quite similar in appearance: it is laid-back and beautiful, has sharp peaks and generous curves. I am still trying to find out how to add whale watching to this description… Kaikoura is an all caps font with a lower case alternative for the o and y. It comes with an ocean of diacritics.

Bispo is a script typeface family made based on italic chancery calligraphy. After one year of it first launch, Bispo family now has another variant, a Bispo Pro version. The Pro version now contains more than 450 glyphs and new OpenType features, enjoy!

A while back I created a nice font called Harimau. It is a childish font, with a happy feel to it. Harimau had some unusual glyphs, most notably the 'g' and the 'j', which, for some designers, were a little too unusual. Therefore I have created a new font based on the old Harimau: it is similar, but comes with 'normal' glyphs.

Chelsnuts was inspired by old Art Deco typefaces used in poster art back in the 1920s. Yet, in addition it has a playful side that makes it unique to the sharp letterforms typically seen in similar ultra-thick typefaces. Also included are lowercase letters, not typically seen in fonts such as this, and a customized outlined version of the font.

Advertiser JNL is a simple A-Z only font used to make retro-styled titles and names. Based on a popular style of retail signage from the 1950s and 1960s, alternating keystrokes will create a contrast of positive and negative letters. The capital letters have the alphabet in white on black boxes, the lower case have the black letters alone—with the white space conforming to the width of the black boxes. In a pinch, the boxed characters can also be used as initial caps. For a more complete character set with the same style of lettering, use DuBois Block JNL.

Stefania Antique is an aged version of Stefania, an elegant italic script. Stefania Antique is perfect for creating unique and ancient looking chancery manuscripts. MTT Milano is a font inspired by the Milanese typographic heritage and the Futurist movement that developed it. Drawn from scratch, it features ascendants and descendants slightly taller than what can usually be found in similar typefaces, in order to improve its elegance. Whilst maintaining a good readability in body-text, this family meets its peak when displayed in medium-big sizes. There are five weights — from regular to black — each with their matching italic, ligatures and extended language support resulting in a full, flexible, ten fonts family.

Newsreel Caps JNL is a novelty caps-only outline letter with cast shadow set inside film frames. Although the design idea itself is not new, this version is based on lettering from a vintage piece of sheet music for a song featured in the movie "Fox Movietone Follies". The font is a wink and nod to Fox's long-running newsreel series called "Fox Movietone News". The upper case keys have black letters on a white frame, while the lower case keys have white letters on a black frame. A blank white frame is on the period key; a blank black frame is on the comma key. Use this font for individual initials, set the characters loose for effect or set them tight (as provided) for a continuous film strip.

P22 Sneaky is the newest font by award winning type designer Michael Clark. Sneaky is a connecting-script and sibling of his popular Pooper Black type which shares a similar flow and casual elegance. It features shared details and relative size so that with careful design, the two can be mixed and matched. Sneaky Pro features over 500 glyphs with alternates and a Central European character set.

Poetica font was designed by Robert Slimbach in 1992 with particularly generous characters. The typeface family consists of 21 weights to allow for an unusual variety of design possibilities within one typeface family. Numerous swash letters, ornaments and ligatures remind one of the early Renaissance and its unforgettable masters, for example, Giambattista Palatino, who later gave his name to Hermann Zapf's creation. Slimbach used the Lettera Cancellaresca as a model for his typeface, the cultivated humanistic italic which later served as a point of departure for the development of italics of the Renaissance and thereafter. Lettera Cancellaresca is very legible, extremely harmonic and impressively beautiful. The early forms display two different compositional tendencies, namely the static of the simple vertical capitals and the italic dynamic of the slanted lower case alphabet, as shown in the weight Chancery 4. The capitals later conform to the slant of the lower case, as shown in the weights Chancery 1-3. Poetica font should be set according to the included suggestion in order to see the full benefit of its grace and beauty.

Amongst some pages scanned and posted online of old wood type alphabets comes this lovely, ornamental design in a reversed style of white lettering on black rectangular boxes. This classic set of wood type is now available digitally as Wood Fancy Reverse JNL. There is a narrow blank box on the “less than” key for use as an end cap, and a wider blank box on the “greater than” key to use between words as a blank space if so desired.

Calligraphic font born from mixing chancery cursive strokes with some copperplate gestures. Kyrenia is the italic counterpart of Agony TTW. You can combine Kyrenia’s four different styles to create the illusion of handmade, along with a lot of ligatures and some alternate endings. This four styles are Quill (the basic one), Broad (taller and stiffer), Swash (ornamental and romantic) and Monster (a hypnotic strange blend).

Ottocento is an elegant chancery cursive, derived from XIXth century Italian calligraphy. Slightly inclined and with a fast and marked ductus, this font is well balanced between thick and thin strokes and shows marked ascendings and descendings.
 Ottocento is rich in stylistic variations with its elaborated upper cases, and stylistically different in traits and different ligatures are considered to make the most of the many OpenType features.

Introducing HEXA’s second family-font, Retro Games Font. The RetroGames font is a witty reinterpretation of the fonts found in 90s 16-bit games that we enjoyed when we were young, presented as bitmap imaged fonts. It offers superior legibility and aesthetic sensibility compared to many other existing bitmap fonts. For instance, while most bitmap fonts create one stroke with 1 pixel or have various thicknesses in pixels, we have standardized it to a maximum of one stroke with 1-3 pixels, enhancing both legibility and aesthetic appeal. Since there are many similar bitmap fonts, we wanted to reinterpret it as a genre of its own. Acton is a deceptively simple, grid-based design. Though derived from a 2 by 3 arrangement of blocks, it uses white spaces to allow for more complex shapes – for example as the R – where the underlying 3 by 5 arrangement is apparent. It also departs from this strict grid-based logic for characters such as the the T, L, f and r, whose cross-bars are shorter than they would otherwise be in order to promote optical evenness. No elegant solution could be found for the V, which in geometric fonts can appear very similar to the U, lacking as it does the cross-bar that can differentiate a square A from the capital form of the n. However, the resultant diagonal retroactively proved useful on the lower-case e and a, characters that otherwise would have more uninteresting design solutions.

Sloppy Stencil JNL is a distressed stencil typeface similar to Packed JNL.

Here is a wood type from Tubbs & Co., about 1900. Its lack of decoration reflects the changes that were rapidly occurring in the design of printed pieces at the beginning of the 1900s. There were several similar types in metal in the first decade of the 20th century.

Chipping is a brand new face inspired by Edwardian and 1920s letterforms. It's good for clear and legible headings which need a gentle and unobtrusive period touch, and is the latest is Greater Albion's line of faces to explore the 'small capitals' idea. You will see a broad similarity with our Chipperly family, and the two work well together in combined projects. Four faces are offered: regular and bold, as well as Black with a heavy drop shadow and white which explores the idea of 'whitespace' design.

Mauer is a proportional, block, geometric font inspired by the advertisement in the polish weekly from 1937 "Tygodnik powszechny". This typeface family contains 3 styles: Regular, Black and Italics.

ITC Freemouse was designed by Slobodan Miladinov in 1998. It is a fresh font, with the look of a chancery italic. ITC Freemouse's design displays a lively contrast of stroke and curve, which captures the expressiveness of calligraphic writing, combining it with the modern look of a digital typeface.

A light chancery script font influenced by both the hand-held pen and the typefounder’s machinery. The curves are reminiscent of the beak of the avocet, a wading bird. This font was originally engraved in metal and copper matrices made for casting into hot metal type for letterpress printing.

Alfina is a chancery typeface that shows a modern temperament, but is inspired by the eponymous town of Torre Alfina, one of the most beautiful medieval villages of Italy, situated on the edge of the plateau Alfina, a few miles from of Orvieto. The place where is the castle is steeped in history. Its roots date back to the Lombard kingdom (seventh century); later it was under the rule of Monaldeschi (1200-1700) and more recently (1880) the property of the rich French banker Count Edoardo Cahen of Antwerp, who was responsible for the present aspect of the Castle. Alfina has soft lines, very slender upper cases and thin overlapping strokes; The stylistic alternates are particularly important, and the type is enriched by many, different OpenType features.

Back in the 1950s and 1960s a popular event was the sock hop - when kids would meet in the school gymnasium, kick off their shoes and dance to the popular records of the day. Sock Hop JNL recalls those simpler times.

Public Utility JNL digitally duplicates the look of those small white-on-black self-adhesive stickers used by cities, power companies and telecommunication firms in order to identify utility poles and other service locations. A blank rectangle is available on both the solid and broken vertical bar positions.

Initial Seals JNL was created by utilizing the typeface from Gummed Letters JNL and one of the decorative dingbats from Miscellany JNL. On the capital A-Z keys, the letters are black on a white on black seal design, while the lower case a-z keys have a seal version in solid black with white letters. Corresponding blank versions of the seals are on the left and right parenthesis keys, and the period key has a fill oval for overlaying background colors onto the black and white set.

The typeface Ruano was inspired from “Lettera cancelleresca formata” by the Vatican calligrapher Ferdinando Ruano, carved and cast in 1926 by Nebiolo of Turin on the advice of Raffaello Bertieri who designed the capital letters and numbers, missing in the original. The difficulty of the design of this chancery font lies in its original vertical layout, bending the calligraphic harmonies to the Gothic style, thus distinguishing it from contemporary cursive alphabets.

A retro-style can be regarded as lack of original contemporary ideas. But also as passion for nostalgic time-traveling. Everyone wants to return to their youth at least for a moment. Inicia was one of my first designs (hence the name) from the mid-eighties. The original drawing was never finished because there were too many similar typefaces around. After three decades the shapes of the old designs suddenly became tempting to finish. Now restored and completed at Storm Type Foundry.

Never let it be said that a good pun and a good font name can't work well together. The vintage sheet music for a 1920s-era song called "King Tut" (not to be confused with the novelty tune by comedian Steve Martin) presented an oddly-interesting block font which is now available in digital form as Type Uncommon JNL. The pun derives from the font's name of "Type Uncommon", which is similar in sound to King Tut's full name (which is Tutankhaten).

ITC Cerigo is the result of a challenge which designer Jean-Renaud Cuaz set for himself: to create a typeface with the grace of Renaissance calligraphy but different from the numerous Chancery scripts. He calls Cerigo a 'vertical italic' and based it on 15th century calligraphic forms. The weights are carefully designed to complement each other and are made more flexible by a number of italic swash capitals. The flexible ITC Cerigo is suitable for both text and display.

Eklipse is a ultra-black typeface from Neder Type. Designed to defy the limits of legibility it is also a journey into a universe of strange possibilities. With multi-lingual support, contains more than 60 ligatures and contextual alternates! Eklipse fits perfect in headlines, logos and small blocks of text.

Crepe Paper JNL is an alphabet-only novelty font that creates a wavy ribbon headline with a vintage wood type alphabet that somewhat resembles an unfurled stretch of crepe paper. The upper case A-Z keys will produce a white ribbon banner with black letters, while the lower case a-z keys are white letters on a black background. The end caps for the white banner are on the left and right parenthesis keys, while the end caps for the black banner are on the bracket keys. A blank space is located on the period key for the white banner and on the comma key for the black banner. This will allow for a continuous text banner without an open break due to using the space key.

A tessellation is a shape that can be used to completely fill the plane—simple examples are isosceles triangles, squares, and hexagons. Tessellation patterns are eye-catching and visually appealing, which is the reason that they have long been popular in a variety of decorative situations. These Tessie fonts have two family members, a solid style that must have different colors when used and an outline style. They can be used separately or they can be used in layers with the outline style on top of the solid style. For rows to align properly, leading must be the same as point size. Shapes that tessellate and also resemble real-world objects are often called Escher-like tessellations. This typeface contains Escher-like tessellations of birds. A number of years ago I decided to see how many of the 28 Heesch types of tessellations I could use to make birds standing on the backs of other birds. I found standing bird patterns for all 17 of the types that had either translated or glided edges. The TessieStandingBirds typefaces contain the standing-bird shapes that I discovered. At first glance they seem to be quite similar, but small differences matter in how they fit together. Most of the patterns require more than one character. The sample file here shows how pieces fit together to give tessellating patterns. (Earlier tessellation fonts from IngrimayneType, the TessieDingies fonts, lack a black or filled version so cannot do colored patterns.)

Fidelio is a chancery italic typeface with swashes, designed by José Mendoza y Almeida in 1980. Written with a broad nibbed pen, it has Caps with swash versions, Lower Case and a wide number of ligatures. It is one of the most complete and appealing calligraphies.
