OkayCursive began over coffee, in a local flower shop, where my wife takes a floral arrangement class. I discovered a book there, with old photographs from Paris of flower shop displays. What caught my eye in the background of one of these photos, was the hand-painted lettering on a sign. Inspired, I quickly sketched some of the letters on a napkin and stuck it in my pocket. I began to sketch more over the next few days, looking to construct a full-out cursive font with this distinct French look. I wanted my design to be creative & free flowing, but I also wanted it to be at least somewhat proper. So, I consulted some schoolbooks for reference on the correct cursive forms. After more drawing, I began to create the final vector art. Gradually, these ideas -- plus many hours of careful kerning and metrics -- came together to form OkayCursive. Use OkayCursive any time you want fancy, legible, and luxurious text. Works great if you are designing a logo, or use it to create some beautiful titling. You may recognize the looks of Retroxoid - if not, then let me help you out: Retroxoid is actually a font I made back in 2007. I ran prints of the font, through a very bad copymachine, used a wet cloth to make the print look worn, scanned the prints and voila! Retrozoid, my very first Open Type font, was born! Now in 2010, Retroxoid has risen from the past, and is ready to burst your designs with clean, round and futuristic shapes!

This font gets its inspiration from the typography of the Manuale ad Usum (1721), printed by Jesuit missionaries who worked at the beginning of the XVIII century with communities of "Guarani" native indians from the Northeast region of Argentina. It is a manual of sacraments published by Paulo Restivo and some collaborators among the native population. This manual features the peculiarity of being the first printed piece where there is a record of the place where it was printed: at the Loreto mission.

This typeface was inspired by Gering and Remboldt's work during the late 1490s. Their printing concern, the Soleil d'or in Paris, was one of the printing business to engage in the use of blackletter printing, when the rest of the Parisian printers where using humanist influenced roman typefaces. This peculiar backwards trend was really one of the original examples of "retro", taking advantage of the desires of the more conservative northern Europe that had not yet embraced the newer roman types.

This was a favorite of job printers in late Victorian times. They used it on cards and stationery, as well as small handbills. It was made in a range of sizes from 10 point to 36 point. Good for places where you really don't want to shout.
