Pargrid is a grid-based typographic experiment from the young Swiss designer Michael Parson. In the Pargrid family, which contains three separate weights, Parson has created an intriguing system of small circles-similar to LED's or light bulbs-that live separately on a grid, creating unique letterforms. In small sizes, these circles blend together to create seemingly fluid lines, giving Pargrid's letters a wide, rectangular appearance. In larger sizes, the letterforms transform themselves into objects d'art-virtual and ordered communities populated by various points. Fantastic in both display settings as well as short strings of text, Pargrid may offer the exact look that your next project is looking for. Aphrosine is a font based on pointed pen script. A huge lot of alternatives and smart OpenType features allow it to look almost indistinguishable from real live handwriting. Aphrosine is something between handwriting and calligraphy: it took too much effort for being “just handwriting” but lacks seriousness and regularity comparing to true calligraphic fonts. That’s why it was called after a peculiar character from a children’s book: a witch who was very fond of dressing, makeup and writing letters. Aphrosine has three faces. But unlike most other type families, the glyphs from one face do not match exactly the glyphs from another one. The faces are based on writing with different nibs but by the same hand. The type is designed by Alexandra Korolkova and Alexander Lubovenko and released by ParaType in 2015.

Jan Koller designed the Banner typeface family especially for the creation of animated web banners. Banner is best used at 80p without antialiasing. The family comes in 24 styles which, in combination, create great, unusual screen effects. Three different animation modells provide the basis: extrusion, cutting in/out by ‘pixelation’, outline pixel rotation. Apart from animation use, Banner also works well in print. Naïve Deco Sans is a layered sans serif handwritten font designed by Fanny Coulez and Julien Saurin in Paris. Our goal was to draw a font with finely irregular lines that give a human and whimsical feeling. It is available in two versions: double or triple lines. The font is also decomposed in three different parts that you can use to improve your designs with multiple colors, giving to the font a deco touch. To do so, you can simply superimpose the parts with a compatible software like Photoshop and choose a color for each. Arkeo BT is designer Brian Sooy's first typeface family published by Bitstream. Given very few design elements to work with, Brian has designed a bitmap font that is unique and very readable. There are three widths, Condensed, Regular and Extended. In our opinion, pixels never looked so good. Arkeo performs equally well on screen and as on paper. The OpenType versions include an extended character set featuring oldstyle figures, fractions and additional f-ligatures. Design was begun in late 2001 and completed in 2002. Sooy asked Bitstream to critique, which we did gladly. We also added additional characters for OpenType. This included alternate figure set, an extended set of fractions and additional f-ligatures. Sooy used preliminary versions for setting parts of the TypeCon 2002 material and website.

The first versions of Nimbus Sans have been designed and digitized in the 1980s for the URW SIGNUS sign-making system. Highest precision of all characters (1/100 mm accuracy) as well as spacing and kerning were required because the fonts should be cut in any size in vinyl or other material used for sign-making. During this period three size ranges were created for text (T), the display (D) and poster (P) for small, medium and very large font sizes. In addition, we produced a so-called L-version that was compatible to Adobe’s PostScript version of Helvetica. Nimbus was also the product name of a URW-proprietary renderer for high quality and fast rasterization of outline fonts, a software provided to the developers of PostScript clone RIPs (Hyphen, Harlequin, etc.) back then.

Epilepsja is an all-caps type family perfect for display works. It has been derived from stencil-sprayed and painted letters in the city space. The glyphs are simple but unordinary. Every letter has something from 3D illusion, but is flat simultaneously. The main feature and asset of this family is the ability to create multicolor text. Epilepsja consists of three styles: Outline, Solid and Fill. Outline is the base from which the other two styles are created. When you mix Solid with Fill, you can create two-color Outline style. Solid is neat and legible in small sizes. Plusquam Sans is a humanist sans serif family in eight weights, roman and italic. It’s neutral character and legibility in smaller sizes recommend it as a text face, and wide range of weights and swash capitals make it usable for various designer purposes. While roman fonts are simple, although in humanist spirit, italics are more vivid. Typographic variants are supported through OpenType features. Several kind of numerals are offered: lining and Oldstyle, tabular and proportional, superior and inferior, fractions. Small caps and math symbols are provided. The final text should look like this then:Vary by Olli Meier is a geometric sans serif typeface inspired by Bulgarian Cyrillic. Vary is fun and adaptable and was built with three feelings (variations): classic, modern, and loopy, offering an opportunity for designers to be playful in their creations. The inspiration in Bulgarian Cyrillic is seen mostly in the character “g,” which was inspired by a very uncommon handwritten “&#x0432”  spotted by the designer in a shop window in Sofia, Bulgaria. When he flipped this design in 180°, the Latin character ‘g’ was born for Vary. Another example is the “R” in the modern stylistic set, which was inspired by the handwritten Cyrillic character “&#x042F”. Vary is available as a variable font also and comes with 10 preset instances from Hairline to ExtraBlack.

Marian Churchland was born in Canada in 1982, and was raised on a strict diet of fine literature and epic fantasy video games. She has a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies (English Literature and Visual Arts) from the University of British Columbia, and has been doing professional illustration work, including book covers and magazine articles, since she was 17. Last year, she became the first woman to solo-illustrate a CONAN story, and this year she’s illustrating three issues of ELEPHANTMEN for Image Comics. This is a 2023 redesign of Bronzo, originally designed by Rick Valicenti and Mouli Marur in 1991. With this redesign, Bronzo now has 6 new weights, for a total of 9, and 587 more glyphs than it was able to in 1991. Bronzo appears to move forward, yet remain still, via a center stroke that only sticks out on the left, a tense curve that only happens on the right, and a width that sits uncomfortably between square and rectangle. Those three things, combined with a balanced light to dark ratio, are what makes Bronzo appear tense and ready. Bronzo accepts Modernist ideals of minimal, rational construction—but it also adopts luxuriant shapes over Modernism’s sandblasted neutrality. It’s almost an alternate reality, a “what if?” of Modernism. Modernism’s fun, interesting, cute reboot.

Zin Serif is a contemporary typeface designed for various situations of typographic usage. Characteristic feature is a large x-height and balance between neutral construction of letters (strictly vertical axis) and dynamic open forms (opened terminals). Another typical feature is a visually narrower connection between stems and strokes. The complete font family consist of three width proportions (Normal, Condensed and Extended). Every sub-family has 5 weights, ranging from Light to Black with matching Italics. Zin Serif can be effectively used for both text and display typesetting. It can be used especialy in magazine layouts and editorial design, as well in advertising typography, orientation systems, corporate identities and many other situations. Darlene is a sans with contrast and round corners. The absence of serifs results in a clean look, the contrast adds a touch of elegance and the soft edges help to keep it all friendly looking. Stanzer is an interpretation of wood type combined with the idea of modern stencils. Instead of cutting every letter, we are presenting an example of how a modern stencil typeface could look like, as we have come to the conclusion that almost every letter works without cutting it. Stanzer is a Unicase typeface, available in three OpenType weights: Black, Shadow and Block. Stanzer first started as part of our diploma 2010 (it was called Stanley at that time). The basic idea behind this typeface is that it is fully stencil usable, and, unlike other stencil fonts, does not require any bridges (except for the O and Q). Almost every letter can be sprayed without inserting planks. However, Stanzer also offers the display weight Block, which is only suitable for print or online usage.

Dingos is a display typeface specially handcrafted for potent usage. It is compact, solid, and dense, with a heavy-built structure, tight internal space, and a versatile touch. NarrowWay is a family of 18 condensed and ultra-condensed sans-serif typefaces. The family started with the ultra-condensed widths, then the condensed and regular widths (the regular is still quite condensed) were added. All widths have three weights and each weight has an italics style. These 18 styles lack a true lowercase but rather have a set of alternative characters, some based on lower-case forms, on the lower-case keys. Some alternative letters can be reached with the OpenType feature of stylistic sets. The character spacing in most of the styles is quite loose and it can be tightened with an application's character spacing if needed. These typefaces are display faces that can be useful for squeezing tall lettering into tight spaces. They are not readable at small point sizes.

Kobely is a reproduction of a local broadcaster's real handwriting. My daughter thought her boss's handwriting was so neat and uniform, it would make a great font and asked if I would be willing to create it. I agreed. She had him write out all the basic characters, which he gladly did with both a standard ink pen and a Sharpie¨ marker. I then turned it into a three weight family, perfect for use on post-it notes, shopping and to-do lists - anywhere you need the natural feel of real handwriting. Di Mare is a layered script inspired by Italian restaurant and cafe signs. It’s about delicious food and the joyful atmosphere of traveling: freedom, sea, fresh wind and warm sun. Museum Tertia Cursive is inspired by a beautiful set of 126 matrices in the Swedish Norstedts type collection. These types were probably manufactured in Germany before 1750. The matrices are part of a set imported to Sweden by J.P. Lindh from Breitkopf & Härtel 1818. Now this exquisite design is available again, thanks to type designer Torbjörn Olsson. Signature Script is a smooth pen script with large display capitals and small but legible lowercase letters. It’s ideal for logo, signature, poster, brochure or any display use. Signature Script is great for typing headlines or a restaurant logo - it’s stylish but legible enough due to its smooth shapes. Signature Script has at least three alternates for every basic lowercase letters that are automatically connected to next letter nicely. This feature is coded inside Standard Ligature so I recommend keeping that on. There’s also Stylistic Alternates for every standard Uppercase letter and Swash, Stylistic and Titling Alternates on certain lowercase letters that can be used to spice up your words. The font is PUA encoded so you can access extras in most graphic design softwares even without OpenType support.

These initials set I collected from Early 15th century manuscript called Claudii Ptolemei Cosmographia, created by the famous Greek scholar Claudius Ptolemaeus in the middle of the 2nd century. The origins of this style called White Vine with interlaced patterns and vine should be found in Ottonian Renaissance manuscripts. Konrad Kachelofen was a printer in the city of Leipzig beginning around 1483. He printed many works by contemporary authors and also many of the classics. He acquired an unusually large amount of typefaces for his shop, a place that included a wine bar and book store. This type face is based on Typ.11:340G GfT510 Gesamtkatalog der Wiegendrucke and is similar to Proportional Lime’s “Kachelofen'' font. The major differences are that the whole miniscule set is slimmer and the majuscule set has different style glyphs and this face was used solely for titles and section headings because of its sharper and clearer appearance at large point values. Konrad probably died in 1529 after passing his business on to his son-in-law Melchior Lotter, who also went on to fame as an industrious and illustrious printer.

Thoroughly contemporary, clean, and ready for work, Tilden Sans was designed by Delve Withrington to be no-nonsense but still stylish and friendly. Tilden Sans is square-ish with low contrast and a generous x-height. Curvilinear strokes like those in the capitals C or S, and many lowercase letters feature incised terminals offering a measure of distinction from other sans serifs, without sacrificing legibility. All of those features work in unison to make this typeface a pleasure to use and read. The Tilden Sans family has seven useful weights ranging from Light to Black and features a glyph repertoire of over 900 glyphs with language support for 225 languages. This versatile typeface performs brilliantly in a host of sizes. The Regular and Medium weights can be used at text sizes, while the Light and Black weights are great for display size settings.

The Arabetic Sans Serif type family follows the guidelines of the Mutamathil type style but also illustrates the effects of adding and removing Latin-like serifs on Arabetic scripts legibility. It has only one glyph for every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter as defined in Unicode Standards version 5.1. Arabetic Sans Serif employs variable x-height values. It includes all required Lam-Alif ligatures and uses ligature substitutions and selected marks positioning but it does not use any other glyph substitutions or forming. Text strings composed using types of this family are non-cursive with stand-alone isolated glyphs. Tatweel (or Kashida) glyph is a zero width space. Keying it before any glyph will display that glyph’s isolated form. Keying it before Alif Lam Lam Ha will display the Allah ligature. Arabetic Sans Serif family includes both Arabic and Arabic-Indic numerals; all required diacritic marks, Allah ligature, in addition to all standard English keyboard punctuations and major currency symbols. Fonts are available in regular, italic, bold, and bold italic styles.
