In nautical folklore, the Flying Dutchman is a ship that can never go home and is doomed to sail the seas forever as a ghost ship. The story of the Dutchman appeared in print in the 1820s. With different versions written over the years, some date the legend to the 1640s or the early 1700s. The Flying Dutchman font is a revival of an 1876 font from MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan Co. The Truetype and OpenType formats include a larger extended character set with Central and Eastern European accented letters. Extra characters in this font are left and right pointing hands in place of the less than and greater than keys and a pirate flag is on the bracket keys. New to this style is the distressed version where the letters look like they've been hacked by a cutlass.

With 662 glyphs, Anemos font is the perfect mix of elegant and casual. This is a monospace font for the Braille alphabet. The idea came while exploring new ways to display the regular braille glyph ( 3 rows of 2 dots ). The glyph design is inspired by "stackable multiple board" games like the famous Vulcan chess (from Star Trek series) and the Qubic (3D tic-tac-toe). The stack is made from 3 levels, each level is a 3x3 grid with 2 "playable" cells (South-West and North-East). Each cell can be either empty, filled by a white square token or a black square token. The 3D effect is obtained by means of the classic isometric perspective. Lowercase letters use black tokens, while uppercase letters use white tokens. Most special characters (e.g. digits, *$#@, []{}() etc.. ) are also provided for special usages like program source code (see poster 5).

Archive Garamond is a typeface roughly based on the designs of Claude Garamond (ca. 1480 – 1561), a French publisher and a leading typeface designer of that period. Garamond’s influence on type design is reflected in many typefaces that are today known under different commercial names. While the majority of contemporary digital interpretations of the “Garamond types” are cleaner and more polished versions of that genre, Archive Garamond tries to keep the rough nature which was typical in the early days of printing. Archive Garamond has a rather unique, distinctive temperament which is even more emphasised with the preserved non-uniformity, such as irregular glyph shapes or a variable baseline. Although Archive Garamond was clearly made to be used for display sizes it works surprisingly well in text. Archive Garamond is availale in three versions, each containing approximately 600 glyphs (in Pro versions). Archive Garamond Pro A Professional version of the typeface contains all glyphs, including the advanced typographic forms, such as different sets of figures, small caps, swashes, historical forms, etc. The font also enables full use of the OpenType features. It fully supports the languages listed in the language list. Archive Garamond Std A Standard version of the typeface is meant to be used for the basic typographic work. It typically contains the most common glyphs. The standard figures are proportional lining. Besides kerning this version does not contain any advanced OpenType features. A Standard file type fully supports the languages listed in the Language list. Archive Garamond Exp An Expert version contains glyphs that are supposed to be used in advanced typographic works. This type of file contains uppercase and small cap glyphs with the proportional oldstyle figures as the default set. As the most classic and traditional style pack of the Fonts Café, the Ottanio family take a place of honor in the list of the Fonts Café handmade Vintage style fonts. This rugged rascal is based on at old ATF “original” design called “Hearst” (although Frederic Goudy claimed it was a pirated version of one of his designs). Its commanding, rough-hewn character makes it suitable for headlines, but its large x-height makes it practical for subheads as well. Available in roman and italic versions. Both versions of this font include the complete Unicode 1252 Latin and Unicode 1250 Central European character sets.

One of the earliest fonts published by Canada Type was Tiger Script, Phil Rutter's digitization of Jaguar, Georg Trump's 1967 wild calligraphic brush face. In 2010, when the font was revisited for an update, it was shown that it too light for applications under 24 pt, and too irregular for applications over 64 pt. So the face was redigitized from scratch. This new digitization brings a more seamless contour and a much steadier stroke, and much better outlines for use at both extremes of scaling. Language support was also greatly expanded, and many alternates and ligatures were added to the redigitized character set. The name was also changed to Trump Script, to better reflect the origins of the design. Trump Script is a master calligrapher's hand producing very uncommon jolts and bursts of sharpness. It showcases some of the most suprising letter forms ever drawn, like the very unique treatments of B, K, W, Y and Z. In the lowercase one can see the cattiest g ever made, and some of the wildest shapes in the f, j, p, y and z. Trump Script comes in all popular formats. The TrueType and PostScript packages are comprised of two fonts. The OpenType version, Trump Script Pro, combines both fonts into one, and includes features for intelligent substitution in software that supports advanced typography. Language support includes Western, Central and Eastern European character sets, as well as Baltic, Esperanto, Maltese, Turkish, and Celtic/Welsh languages.

American designer Stanley Davis created the font Amelia™ in 1965. What sets Linotype Amelia apart from all the rest are its unusual inner spaces. Assemblage is a typeface-inspired by Roman square capitals-that comes in 6 different weights and ranging from Thin to Black. The background of the typeface makes it well-suited for branding, short text, titles and complex compositions, thanks to its italic version. VLNL Jelly Donuts’ Jelly Donuts is the round sibling of VLNL Donuts. Equally funky, just round. Like its counterpart Jelly Donuts is heavily infused by hip 1970s geometric fonts like Blippo, Pump and ITC Bauhaus. It nonetheless has both feet in this modern day and age. Meticulously designed and tightly spaced, VLNL Jelly Donuts is very suitable for logos, headlines and music artwork. We especially recommend using it on big 12" album covers. Here's a font system distilled from the lettering styles of a thousand vintage psychedelic rock albums and posters from the swingin' sixties. All of the grooviness, but perhaps twice the legibility of some of the more "far out" examples from the genre. This family features an extensive character set and multilingual glyphs, so you can say "Trippy, Man." in many languages. The three versions allow you to harmonize letter bodies and highlight strokes with the color palette of your project Once loaded on your system, the three versions of the font show in your menu as the following three "weights": Psych Handlettering Bold, Psych Handlettering Incised, and Psych Handlettering Highlight. A handwritten font created with a 0.5 - 1 mm felt tip pen that works great with illustrations and comics. It seems a bit creepy because of the strokes getting smaller at the bottom.

Shout is a “Hey, Look at ME” font. It is an attention-getting font for posters, flyers and ads. Its lineage includes the Haas Type Foundry’s 19th century advertising font, Kompakte Grotesk, which Jan Tschichold (1902-1974) dryly described as “extended sans serif” and which graphic designer Roland Holst (1868-1938) would have disapprovingly referred to as a “shout,” as opposed to the quiet presentation of information that he believed was the proper function of advertising. In 1963 Letraset released what appears to be an updated variation in multiple weights designed by Frederick Lambert called Compacta. Shout draws heavily on Compacta, as well as other similar fonts of the 50s and 60s like Eurostile Bold Condensed and Permanent Headline. In weight, it falls about halfway between Compacta Bold and Compacta Black, but with a relatively heavier lower case that is not so easily pushed around by the upper case. After all, one can shout while sitting down. Shout is the first font released with our new encoding, as noted in the All_customer_readme.txt. The Euro symbol has been moved to position 128 and the Zcaron/zcaron have been added at positions 142/158 respectively. Otherwise, Shout has our usual idiosyncratic glyph selection, with the German ch/ck instead of braces, a long s instead of the Greek mu and our usual Hand-in-Hand symbol. There are also left and right glyphs of a big mouth ]ing (135/137) and left and right glyphs of an angry man shouting (172/177). Please use Shout with discretion. Folks get tired of being yelled out. After awhile, they stop listening. Shout ML represents a major extension of the original release, with the following changes: 1. Added glyphs for the 1250 Central Europe, the 1252 Turkish and the 1257 Baltic Code Pages. Add glyphs to complete standard 1252 Western Europe Code Page. Special glyphs relocated and assigned Unicode codepoints, some in Private Use area. Total of 355 glyphs. 2. Added OpenType GSUB layout features: pnum, ornm, liga, hist & salt. 3. Added 266 kerning pairs. 4. Revised vertical metrics for improved cross-platform line spacing. 5. Revised hyphen, dashes & math operators. 6. Minor refinements to various glyph outlines. 7. Inclusion of both tabular & proportional numbers. Please note that some older applications may only be able to access the Western Europe character set (approximately 221 glyphs). At the turn of the 20th century monolinear alphabets were often despised for their dullness. Typographers, therefore, took great pains to breathe some kind of individuality into the monotonous sans-serif scheme. They started with subtle differentiation in the thickness of vertical and horizontal strokes and finished by improving details. By this they arrived at a more decorative appearance of the type face which thus became more regardful of the eye of the bourgeoisie. Ideal Gothic is no exception. It is characterized by a correct stiffness which will improve the morals of every idea printed by this type face. The awkward curves of the italics are a little suggestive of openwork iron products or the bent iron of the decorative little railings in a Prague park. The so-called "hidden" and, furthermore, curved serifs complete the inconspicuous "charm" of this type face. All its above-mentioned features, however, suddenly turn into advantages when we need to design a magazine, a brochure or an annual report, in short whenever illustrations dominate. It is not by accident that the basic design of "Ideal Gothic" has such a light tonal value - it competes neither with fine pencil sketches, nor with sentimental landscapes. It is very suitable for business cards and corporate identity graphics.

Those who design books for young children should consider the different needs of their readers. When laying out pages for young readers, particular care should be taken over word spacing. Don't forget that justifying short lines disrupts spacing. Justification should be used only when absolutely necessary. In the research undertaken with young readers the importance of consistent spacing was clear. It also appeared that the poorer readers profited from wider word spacing, while spacing that suited the poorest readers, positively annoyed the better readers. These typefaces have built-in letter spacing because of their exit strokes, as well as extra clarity designed into them. Sassoon Primary Medium Condensed is a compact style for headlines combining the right amount of weight, yet in a friendly style. Architype Universal is a collection of avant-garde typefaces deriving mainly from the work of artists/designers of the inter-war years, whose ideals underpin the design philosophies of the modernist movement in Europe. Their ‘universal’, ‘single alphabet’ theory limits the character sets. Architype Bill was developed from the few letterforms created by Max Bill for a 1949 exhibition poster. All the forms, with the exception of the letter ‘o’, were constructed using only straight lines and triangles on a purely mathematical basis, that showed the continued influence of his earlier Bauhaus training, and the universal alphabet principle.

The hand lettered word ‘puzzles’ from the box cover of a 1940s set of metal “connected” puzzle pieces manufactured by the A.C. Gilbert Company was the initial typographic model, but some additions and changes were made. Instead of the right side of the ‘P’ being a semi-circle, it was changed to a more conservative ‘’squared’ look. After drawing out all of the necessary glyphs, the overall height of the characters was extended to make the letters and numbers appear taller and narrower. The end result is Narrow Deco JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

The whole family of typefaces has been designed to work at big sizes and display purposes such as branding, headlines, thumbnails, posters and animations. You can swap between the three additional alternate sets through all the styles to add diversity to your composition, even in Cyrillic. This version features small caps in a independent font file. Karben 105 Stencil is a contemporary stencil font. The stencil breaks in the letters are applied in a way that is sensitive to the forms of the character in pursuit of a more elegant stencil. Karben 105 Stencil is available in a family of three weights. Karben 105 Stencil is closely related to Karben 105 and Karben 205 . All of the Karben fonts feature an extended character set, including accented characters for Central European languages.

Cronos is the work of Robert Slimbach, a sans serif typeface family that embodies the warmth and readability of Oldstyle Roman typefaces. It derives much of its appearance from the calligraphically inspired type of the Italian Renaissance. Its almost handwritten appearance sets it apart from most other sans serif designs and makes it an effective choice for text composition. The Italic design was inspired by early Chancery style Italics and is both elegant and distinguished.

Castagna is a contemporary calligraphic font with classical roots. It is carefully designed, with a special emphasis on the connection of the letters, with high ascenders to give rise to the ornaments of the different letters. There is a special search for high readability. Castagna includes a wide selection of stylistic sets, contextual and stylistic alternates, initial forms, swashes, and ligatures to preserve the qualities of handwriting, in order to accommodate various design aesthetics.

Rothorn™ is a modern, minimalist geometric sans with its own personality derived for subtle design details, such as cut diagonal corners, pointed t, very small contrast and closed aperture. The letterforms give the typeface a lot of charisma, keeping a very minimal, clear and well balanced look at the same time. Its powerful and sharp shapes together with the variety of weights from Hairline to Black make it a perfect choice for headlines and branding. Generous x-height, careful spacing and distribution of weights give it a color and legibility great for long paragraphs of text. Rothorn is a geometric member of a large type system including such families as Montreux Grotesk (Swiss-style grotesk), Lütschine (narrow headline family) and Conthey (narrow headline unicase family). The Rothorn family consists of 10 weights with corresponding italic styles, giving a total of 20 styles. Italic styles were hand drawn to get sharp and fine letter shapes. It includes a 2-axis variable font letting you adjust the weight and italic slant to your exact needs. The family has extended latin language support, as well as broad number of OpenType features, such as, case sensitive forms, ligatures, contextual alternates, lining, oldstyle, tabular and circled figures, slashed zero, fractions, superscript and subscript, ordinals, currencies and symbols.

ManRay is a photogenic typefamily of 6 fonts designed by @andinistas, with more than 2600 glyphs distributed in 3 Scripts and 3 Caps. Its shapes are ideal for attention-grabbing and for its eloquent character set, each style is presented with three levels of erosion planned with meticulous dotted texture bézier drawing, diagonal texture, and vertical texture pattern. ManRay Script, Script2, Script3 is based on calligraphy made with a fine tip brush and therefore communicates pleasant and attractive ideas. Its capital letters measure three times the height of the lower case and stand out for its artistic curved lines ideal for writing on photos, logos, labels, packaging, posters, covers of food products, spirits, organic teas, etc. In that order, it also offers other expressive alternate letters that activate spontaneously, and each of the three styles is case-infinite with and without Swash, Stylistic, and Titling Alternates. ManRay Caps, Caps2, Caps3 are inspired by calligraphic Roman letters drawn with a brush with a square tip and are equipped with descending flourishes for word start and end. George and its name is a tribute to the Dada hero who changed history a century ago by working against the conventions of art and photography.

Pink is the work of British designer Timothy Donaldson, a sans serif in a style typical of the 1990s. Capitals are slightly condensed and feature unusual variations in stroke widths and the lowercase has an even more irregular stroke pattern, yet an even texture is produced when used in word settings.
