Print Shop Parts JNL has a nostalgic assortment of blank sign panels, a pointing hand, decorative embellishments and even an assortment of "Made in U.S.A.", "Made in America" and "Made in United States" emblems located on the 1-9 keys. All are from vintage type catalogs and sign painting instruction books from the early 1900s. When scaled up, the blank sign panels can be used for small signs or price tags as originally made in years past. During the early part of the 20th Century, it was common to create show cards in attention-getting shapes matched with beautiful hand lettering.

Initially, I participated in the contest to design the logo for Bill Lloyd. In the end, the design was rejected, but letters remained. I then decided to continue with the idea and complete the entire typeface. After a couple of months, I realized that the typeface was imperfect, and now that I’m working on an updated Lloyd type, this one is free. The main characteristic of the typeface is its bold and curvy shapes. It is also tall and original in design. It was a great experience because it taught me how failure inspires people to move on, and create something better.

Grimmig draws inspiration from solid and angular blackletter shapes and the idea of cutting letters out of paper. AlphaBravo was born on a napkin. I was just doodling, playing around with letterforms when the ballpoint glided a little bit too far and suddenly I had my first letter with the dash sticking out on the left of the e’s horizontal line. I quickly checked on how many letters I could let a line stick out! Then I wrote a couple of words that way and letters joined in the most unusual places, creating new closed forms. I gave the font a try and quickly discovered, that I had stumbled onto an interesting new typeface. It is still a mystery to us why Martin Wilke's 1968 Konzept design was ignored by the digital age. It certainly has the elements of attractive yet realistic handwriting, as well as a few very distinctive letters that make it very unique in its class. So here it comes digitally under another feline name from Canada Type. We named it Cougar because the top of the C gives off just that impression. Ditto the G's casual descender, and the gorgeous a and g. With casual letters like these, a handwriting font cannot get any more realistic. Star Ornaments are seen as a long standing companion to many wood type poster layouts. Various manufacturers managed to derive many variations of the five pointed star motif and offered them as a ubiquitous ornament option in almost all of their catalogs. Manufacturers such as Wm. H Page, Morgans & Wilcox, Tubbs Mfg. Co. and of course, Hamilton Wood Type each had their own slight variations. This digital font features almost 100 glyphs of mostly stars, but it also features a unique star border that can create boxes just like the modular offerings of the 19th century. The twist on this digital version is the inclusion of additional connection options that become a unique lettering 'kit' that can create typography or maze-like connections using a limited set of component parts.

The Klutz AOE Pro Family was inspired by the plethora of naive hand drawn lettering becoming commonplace in modern advertising. Legan, created by PeGGO Fonts, is a typeface with a large number of glyphs. The uppercase letters follow the classical Trajan pattern. It is designed with several geometrical proportions such as root five, divine proportion (Golden Ratio), regular square, and others, just like the Greek Trajan letters used on Trajan’s Column. The major innovation is a lowercase that is designed in accordance with the same Trajan rules. Liebling (in English: Sweetheart) was developed according to the sans serif font Mein Schatz with the purpose of having two typefaces which match perfectly. The contrast between thicks and thins was set very low. Just enough to contrast with same-weight Mein Schatz. One of the typeface’s characteristic features, also like its partner, is the availability of ligatures within an expert set. Liebling offers the characters sh, sp, st, ty among others and alternative letters for v and w. The majuscules of the expert set have curved elements allowing the designer to put the typeface to a highly individualistic use for displays and headlines. Another feature of the typeface are two different figure systems. In addition to the old style figures for use in continuous text, Liebling offers regular table figures within the expert set.

Probably as a reaction to the pragmatism of modernist design, the seventies saw an explosion of buoyant, vivacious typography. Psychedelia fueled a return to the melting, lush shapes of Art Nouveau while Pop culture embraced the usage of funky, joyful lettering for advertising, product design and tv titling. New low-cost technologies like photo-lettering and rub-on transfer required new fonts to be expressive rather than legible, pushing designers to produce, bubbly, high-spirited masterpieces, where geometric excess and calligraphic inventions melted joyfully. Freitag is Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini's homage to this era and its typography. His starting point was the design of a heavy sans serif with humanist condensed proportions, flared stems and reverse contrast, that generated both the main family, and a variant display subfamily. The main typeface family slowly builds the tension and design exuberance along the weight axis - a bit like our desire for the weekend increases during the week. In Light and Medium weights the font shows a more controlled, medium-contrast design, tightly spaced for maximum display effect. The Book weight follows the same design but uses a more relaxed letter spacing to allow usage in smaller sizes and short body copy. As weight increases in the Bold weight the style becomes more expressive, with a visible reverse contrast building up and culminating in the Heavy weight with his clearly visible "bell bottoms" feel. In the display sub-family the design is pushed further by introducing variant letterforms that have a stronger connection to calligraphy and lettering. To balance the extreme contrast in the XL weight, contrast of punctuation is reduced, creating a rich, highly-dynamic texture wherever diacritics and marks are used in the text. All 20 fonts share an extended latin charset with open type features including case sensitive forms, single and double story variants and alternate glyphs.
