This loopy offering is patterned after a typeface from the 1888 specimen book from the Central Type Foundry of St. Louis, called simply "Spiral". I built the Orchid Key font family from the ground up with the idea that there would be several different styles; the Inline Spurs style was the first to be built, which let me then subtract the spurs, inline slices, or both to make the other styles. The Lina typeface family was designed by Roy Cole and completed in 2003. The roman font, Lina 30, was drawn originally by hand and later its character set extended and digitally redrawn with the aid of Fontographer. The five additional fonts, 60, 90, and the italics 33, 66, 99 followed and were all produced digitally from scratch. Lina is characterized by economy, lightness and evenness of weight. The capitals and figures are not as tall as the lower-case but retain the latter’s weight, and the figures are designed to provide enhanced recognition. The characters are relatively large on the body and text and benefit from additional leading. Lina is essentially a typeface for text composition. Roy Cole's other typeface families are Zeta, Colophon and Coleface.

The lifetime of Lorenzo de Medici (1449-1492) coincides with the rise of metal type as it displaced broad pen calligraphy for the production of books. This revolution marked the end of formal Western calligraphy, as the industry employed metalworkers who designed type according to geometric measurement while calligraphers were forced to become secretaries who practiced handwriting systems. Renaissance Florence should have witnessed the marriage of calligraphy and typography, just as all the other arts and sciences flourished as classical learning was applied to technical advances; but the metalworkers and geometricians measured, dissected and recast the calligraphic letters by crude indirect methods, and in the end took all the life out of them. Here they languished until digital type has made it possible to render the precise motion of the broad pen stroke into type. Lorenzo is a confluence of many strains from the Middle Ages, brought together within the classical harmony of the capitals. It attempts to bypass metal type, using calligraphic means to achieve the precision of type while retaining the life of the stroke: a classical font that would be familiar to Lorenzo himself as well as to the modern eye. The Lorenzo family comes in four weights, ranging from light to bold. Two sets of italics, one with swashed caps and ascenders, complement each weight. The font series Andron MC introduces a new feature to the repertoire of the Andron family: middlecase glyphs (intermediate between upper- and lowercase) – and uncial letters. Middlecase glyphs reach a medium height compared to full caps height and lowercase x-height. However, ‘uncial’ means the historic transitional lettershapes of the medieval ages which have gained no status in the bicameral typographic system of modern times. In all three of the Andron MC fonts middlecase (“MC”) glyphs dwell on the lowercase positions. These are coined in uncial fashion in the MC Uncial and MC Medieval fonts but appear as capital glyphs in MC Capital. The same variation occurs with the uppercase positions: whereas standard Roman/capital glyphs are there in MC Uncial and MC Capital, MC Medieval features uncial majuscules here instead. At the end that makes three different combinations of uncial and capital sorts. These fonts can be used for a great variety of purposes. Armature Neue Sans is an extension of the original Armature Neue family released in 2010. Like Armature Neue, Armature Neue Sans consists of six weights with accompanying italics. Armature is one result of my interest in typefaces that are constructed, rather than drawn. Although it is basically a monoline design, there are subtle details throughout that compensate for a monoline’s evenness. As with all fontBoy fonts, there are dingbats hidden away in the dark recesses of the keyboard. When I first started designing this face in 1992, I called it Dino - I thought I would name all my fonts after famous pets, so the dingbats for Armature are dinosaurs. To access the alternate characters (closed counter B and R, and others) use Stylistic Set 1 or the glyphs palette in your OpenType-enabled application. Punkaholic started out as a loopy, all caps display font with a semi condensed feel. Before completion some of the letters such as A and W were given a more traditional look and were penciled in for alternates. In the end, however, they were added as uppercase characters instead. For this reason most words in lowercase vary in appearance from their uppercase counterparts. This dichotomy between straight lined capitals and rounded ones makes for some interesting contrasts. Punkaholic works best in less formal settings such as café menus, t-shirts, or children’s publications. It comes in 3 styles and contains Latin, extended Latin, punctuation, and kerning.

Minuet, an informal script with crossover deco elements giving it an unmistakable 1940s flavor, is a revival and expansion of the Rondo family, the last typeface drawn by Stefan Schlesinger before his death. This family was initially supposed to be a typeface based on the strong, flowing script Schlesinger liked to use in the ads he designed, particularly the ones he did for Van Houten’s cocoa products. But for technical reasons the Lettergieterij Amsterdam mandated the face to be made from unattached letters, rather than the original connected script. Schlesinger and Dooijes finished the lowercase and the first drawings of the uppercase just before Schlesinger was sent to a prison camp in 1942. Dooijes completed the design on his own, and drew the bold according to Schlesigner’s instructions. The typeface family was finished in February of 1944, and Schlesinger was killed in October of that same year. Though he did see and approve the final proofs, he never actually saw his letters in use. It took almost four more years for the Lettergieterij Amsterdam to produce the fonts. The typeface was officially announced in November of 1948, and immediately became a bestseller. By 1966, according to a memo from the foundry, the typeface had become “almost too popular”. This digital version of Schlesigner’s and Dooijes’s work greatly expands on the metal fonts. Both weights include a complete set of lowercase alternates — based on Schlesinger’s own drawings, as well as alternative variations for some of the capitals, a few ligatures, and extended language support covering Western, Eastern and Central European languages, plus Baltic, Celtic/Welsh, Esperanto, Maltese and Turkish. Minuet is available in all popular formats. The OpenType version, Minuet Pro, takes advantage of internal font programming to combine the main and alternate fonts into a single file per weight, making all alternates and ligatures automatically available at the push of a button in OpenType supporting programs.
