In 1916 the Prang company - still famous for their excellent pens and pencils - commissioned Thomas Woods Stevens to hire the best calligraphers of the era to hand letter sample pages with different Prang pens and in a variety of styles. The resulting book is a font maker's dream, a collection of period lettering samples perfect for making new fonts. One of the sample pages shows off the look of the Spoonbill pen with a set of classic art deco style letters by Charles Earley. This is the tallest, skinniest, most condensed, non serif font I know of. I designed this because I felt a serious need for that one big, thin word to fit in a narrow space. It is great for ‘SALE!’ in a one column ad. Also is a life saver for several long words in a narrow space like Merry Christmas... If you need a full character set take a look at the new Ultra Condensed 3 font family. Ultra Condensed was based on Tall Skinny Condensed with some changes and a full character set. This font has 2 styles in one keyboard layout! There is a solid style, and an outline style. The capital letters match the small-case. The capitals are all solid letters, while the small-case are the same, but an outline version. Same with your numbers, there is 2 styles (Outlined hollow numbers, or press shift and a number to get it's matching solid version). Common punctuation marks, brackets, etc., are included too, in both styles (There's even a hexagonal euro and dollar sign). To make these characters easier to find, repeats are spread throughout your alternate keys. The two styles can be used together, nicely complimenting each other. Large, bold and innovative in its sectional construction, the font is based on a lettering example found in a 1941 Speedball® Lettering Pen instruction book. The basic alphabet was used for the model, with a new set of numbers and additional characters created by Jeff Levine in order to make this font fully functional in today’s digital designs.

BAR SADY is a revival of a typeface based on famous lettering from "BAR SADY". The project was implemented as part of the Warsaw Participatory Budget 2023. Mateusz Machalski & Małgorzata Bartosik were responsible for the new digital version of the typeface. In the first phase, the original lettering was lifted, then extended to a full set of characters (A-Z). Finally, the bold style was created. The whole family is available under a free license.

I enjoy and am inspired by many blackletter designs, but find that their uppercase characters are generally too complex to be very usable. I also found that very few, if any were designed with perfect 45 degree angles. I set out to design a textura blackletter with unique features and a usable uppercase. What resulted is an interesting, yet usable, geometric design with unusual features that make it stand out from existing texturas.
