A set-aside work file featuring a bold sans serif typeface that may or may not have had a vintage source history was given a new treatment. Initially, the solid design was converted to a stencil format and an experiment was undertaken to see what the alphabet would look like with a dual line treatment. Surprisingly, it turned out quite well and the end result is Dual Line Stencil JNL; available in both regular and oblique versions.

The properties of classic computing platforms, like their limited memory and low-resolution displays, required that the designers and programmers of the time devise and use certain techniques to produce interesting visual results. One of the areas that saw experimental digital type flourish is the Commodore 64 intro scene. Dean Martin starred in four movies as Matt Helm, the titular character in a series of spy novels by Donald Hamilton. Martin’s version of the government counter-agent followed his TV persona – a fun-loving ladies man who (in this case) just happened to be a spy. The movie poster for 1966’s “The Silencers” has its title hand lettered in an extra bold sans serif stencil style. This is now available as Spy Stencil JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Ciribiribin is an Italian ballad composed by Alberto Pestalozza in 1898. Many versions with different sets of lyrics have been recorded over the years. The hand lettering on the sheet music for one such popular version of the song was comprised of bold characters with a "semi-serif" treatment; that is, characters with partial or no serifs on certain strokes of the letters. Ciribiribin JNL extends this unique design into a complete digital typeface. Available in both regular and oblique versions.

Despite its macabre-sounding name, Headstone Roman JNL is not a novelty font for Halloween or horror movies. Instead, it's an attractive Roman typeface based on an example provided of a guide for stonecutters to use when cutting epitaphs into tombstones.
