Kröwn is a ruthless display font family. It is presented in three styles that can be used stacked to create beveling and dimensional effects. Kröwn’s most distinctive feature is the absence of counter shapes, or at least its minimum impact. The term Sanseki (Japanese for Three [Brush] Traces) is used to describe three famous Heian period calligraphers: Yaseki, Gonseki and Saseki. Not that I would ever dream of comparing my messy brush-work with theirs, but the name stuck and I kind of liked it. I used Chinese ink and a high quality brush (which I got in a sale actually) to create this font. All glyphs were hand painted in one go! Sanseki is a very detailed brush font. Upper and lower case letters mingle and there’s even an alternate for every lower case glyph. Comes with an abundance of diacritics.

The movie poster promoting the 1962 James Cagney comedy "One, Two Three" had it's text done in free-style hand lettering. Starting with an auto-trace in order to have an isolated version of the black letters separated from the red poster background, the tracing kept the basic forms intact, but with limited accuracy. Cleaning up and digitally reshaping the letters manually to form a more correct version [closer to the original movie poster], additional figures, foreign characters, accents and punctuation were drawn from scratch. This is now available as Handwritten Note JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Realgar is a generic and neutral typeface but with enough personality to be different, but not as much to be unfamiliar. The name refers to an ancient natural pigment, known for its vivid orange colour. It is a multipurpose typeface in an eclectic style that combines geometric and grotesque with some humanist touches. Anlinear is part of a series of constructed typographic experiments from the young Swiss designer Michael Parson. In the Anlinear family, which contains three separate weights, Parson has successfully created a fabulous display of alphabets out of the sole arrangement of lines at right angles to each other. Bfrika is an 'Africa inspired' typeface and a contribution for the typographic issue 'National Typographica' of I-Juici Magazine, in South Africa. This geometrical decorative design represents bold simplicity, directness and rythm. The name evolved from text for the spread in the magazine. The B replaces the A. Africa be free. Bfrika. The concept behind Bfrika is to generate an unpredictable visual rhythm in an attractive decorative presentation. Filling up the white space around the letters accentuates form over function, thus creating an interference of visual impressions with its legibility. This visual rhythm is amplified by its redundancy in a text, only pausing at a break or a word space. Based on the concept of separate printing forms in letterpress, Bfrika Two Tone and Bfribat Two Tone separate the letter from the outside form in two fonts. Placing two text frames exactly on top of each other and assigning each part of these font to a frame in a different color, offers a quick way to add color. Originally Bfrika was designed for I-Jusi magazine #17, National Typografika, South Afrika 2001. Bfribat and both two tone fonts were created for Building Letters, a fund raiser for orphanages in Kenya and Uganda (www.buildingletters.org) and are also available for Mac and PC at www.hollandfonts.com and will be distributed in 2004 through associated foundries.
