Last Dance: Redux - The 80s Feel-Good Script Font - Updated! Welcome to Last Dance: Redux, a new and improved version of my popular brush-script font inspired by 80s movie posters, VHS covers and Friday nights at the video store! This hand-drawn script aims to capture the feel-good vibes of movie blockbusters that won our teenage imaginations, while serving as the go-to font for recreating this unique and nostalgic period. The original Last Dance font features a gritty, hand-drawn texture that looks equally at home on an aerobics competition poster or steamy urban thriller - making great titles that look distinctly cinematic. Last Dance: Redux takes that original design and strips it back to it’s bare essentials resulting in a clean, uniform look that improves letter flow and readability. It’s also much lighter on system resources making it the preferred choice when using extensively across print and web projects. Both versions come with upper and lowercase characters along with punctuation, numerals and language support, plus two full sets of alternatives and a selection of underlines. OBO Classic is the second installment of the OBO series, a type collection based on a square. Every character is mapped on a 1x1 ratio which allows for horizontal and vertical settings alike. Or mixed, like crosswords. OBO Classic is a display interpretation of a traditional Old-style Serif. The “distortion” which maps each character to a square creates unusual proportions to what we are used to from classic serif typefaces. The result is a monospaced font. While each individual letter feels conventional on its own, when brought together in words the result feels contemporary. Thanks to the square base vertical and horizontal – and mixed – settings are possible and easy to apply. There are a few exceptions for certain punctuation and special characters that are half the width for better spacing; and the word space’s width can easily be adjusted through OpenType stylistic sets. Talking about spacing, for strictly horizontal typesetting there is the option to turn on kerning for a number of characters to create a cleaner texture across words and phrases. OBO Classic is best set in large sizes and is most comfortable in editorial and display settings. A series of icons complete the character set. A selection comes as pixel graphics which adds further contrast to the traditional legacy of the typeface.

Cowling Sans AOE is a charming Art Deco architectural style typeface. It is the cleaned-up, refined revival and elaboration of a lettering design from “Lettering for Commercial Purposes” by Wm. Hugh Gordon published in 1918. What began as a basic character set of Capitals, lowercase, and two styles of ampersand has been expanded to a full character set including unlimited fractionals, superiors & inferiors, ordinals, tabular, proportional, and oldstyle figures, and an expanded language glyph set, all with a smallcaps and Caps to Smallcap set to match. Daiquiri is a revival of a handlettered font in two weights, from an ad for Puerto Rico Rum dating back to the forties or fifties. I found the ad on a French antique market on my last visit for Mardi Gras in Nice. The ad read "Breeze through the heat, be a Daiquiri fan". That's why they had this "fan" in the illustration! Did they want you to rotate like a fan when you had enough Daiquiris? Or did they just do it for that little "Jeu des mots"? Anyway I found the handlettering very pretty, so I took those few letters and made a whole font out of them. I think Daiquiri has that touch that brings those happy and uncomplicated times back when advertising was still fun. I started something like 20 years later in advertising and things had gotten more stringent. We already had to satisfy those marketing guys with their scholarly attitude. They have taken all the fun out of the job, for the creators as well as for the consumers. I would like to see more uncomplicated ads like this again, yours Gert Wiescher

Arabesque is a romantic, ornamental font, in which intertwining, flowing lines and generous loops enhance the beauty of the basic shapes.
