Armature Neue is an extension and clarification of the original Armature family released in 1997. We made the distribution of weights more even, and added italics extra light and black weights. Originally consisting of four fonts, Armature Neue has twelve: six weights with accompanying italics. Although conceived as a display face, a number of alternate characters are included that can be used to regularize the type for text setting. Armature is one result of my interest in typefaces that are constructed, rather than drawn. Although it is basically a monoline design, there are subtle details throughout that compensate for a monoline’s evenness. As with all fontBoy fonts, there are dingbats hidden away in the dark recesses of the keyboard. When I first started designing this face in 1992, I called it Dino-I thought I would name all my fonts after famous pets-so the dingbats for Armature are dinosaurs. This font was inspired by music from the band Silverstein. The main characteristics are the incredibly thin, orgainic lines.

Some time ago, my son asked me to name all Seven Seas. I had to think for a bit, because I can think of more than 7 seas (the North Sea, the Caspian Sea, the South China Sea, the Sea Of Okhotsk, etc.), but apparently these are not part of the BIG Seven. It turns out that even oceans count as ‘seas’. Long story short, I created a font, had to think of my son’s question and named the font Seven Seas. Seven Seas is a hand made serif that comes with swashed alternatives for a lot of glyphs.

Inspired by the hand lettered title on the cover of a mid-1950s comic book [based on the beloved children’s TV host Captain Kangaroo], Treasure House JNL is a casual, playful serif font available in both regular and oblique versions. From 1955 through 1984, the late Bob Keeshan brought the gentle Captain into the living rooms of eager youngsters who were both taught and entertained each weekday morning.

Main Feature JNL is patterned after the plastic letters found on theater marquees. As an extra bonus, the | (bar) key has the phrase "double feature", the ^ (ascii circumflex) has the word "and" and the ~ (ascii tilde) has the phrase "with" for anyone doing a theater marquee mock-up.

The original plan for Atlantic was to design a typeface in the Venetian syle of the Renaissance, with handwriting character and large ascenders. There is a wave-rolling unevenness in both the x- and cap-height caused by the strong ductus pointing to the upper right, together with heavily curved serifs, resulting in a very lively image of text on a page. Atlantic – its name reflects the ocean, ships, carriers and loads, tourism and so on. These are the themes Atlantic is best suited for. The extended family includes a serif, a sans, and a special variant – a SeaWashed. Atlantic was designed for the URW++ SelecType collection.

Sea Gate JNL is a hybrid font creation based in part on a 1930s-era WPA (Works Progress Administration) poster and the addition of slab serifs as well as a few modifications to some of the characters in the original design. The typeface is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Years before the "Jet Age", and way before computers and satellite television turned us into jaded "armchair travelers", the ocean voyage aboard giant steamships to distant ports of call beckoned many to travel the Seven Seas. Far away lands had a magic and mysticism to them, for few Americans knew anything about those places unless they read about them in books or saw travelogs at their local theaters. Many songs were written with themes of romantic South Seas travel, and one vintage piece in particular entitled "Down Where the Trade Winds Blow" offered up the hand lettering which served as a model for Sea Cruise JNL.

Akira Kobayashi's ITC Seven Treasures is a symbol font for use in patterns and textures. The interlocking patterns, usually circular or oval, are taken primarily from motifs used in Japanese textiles. Most of these designs are known as komon, or tiny patterns," and they are often applied to kimono and other textiles, although their use is not limited to fabrics. They also appear carved in wood in traditional architecture, and painted in pictures as background patterns. Each of the individual designs in ITC Seven Treasures Ornaments is carefully sized and spaced so that it will fit together into a continuous pattern. Most overlap slightly but precisely, so that when you type a row of them you can't tell where one leaves off and the next begins. They may be combined or alternated to vary the texture of a background pattern."
