Newcomen is a highly versatile titling face that includes 87 OpenType alternates and 38 ligatures. Newcomen titling, in its default form, evokes the Victorian era and is named for the British inventor of a steam engine for pumping water. Newcomen's flexibility is remarkable; the family includes four weights, and OpenType style sets are included that can alter the appearance of the face to either appear more dark and gothic, classical, include dots in the counters, and swash and "boxy" sets. Individual characters can also be selected and mixed and matched in OpenType capable applications for distinctive custom designs. A few design ideas are to use the gothic alternates for Halloween, the dots for a steampunk appearance, or the traditional alternates for a unique classical look.

Astrotype is an excellent choice for use in astronomical or astrological literature – books, journals, magazines, etc. It can be used effectively both within the text and in accompanying graphics. Using all weights also opens up a number of illustrative possibilities, for instance on posters or tarot cards. Clarity, homogeneity and pure simplicity give Astrotype its unique character. Manhattan was designed in 1970 for ITC by Tom Carnase, who also created Avant Garde Gothic. The distinguishing characteristic of this designer's work is found in the emphasis on the thick-thin constrast. In this case, Carnase approached the border of the impossible. The heavy vertical strokes stand opposite the finest of lines and the thick columns dominate the overall look. The basic forms are strictly constructed, as are those of Morris F. Benton's Broadway of 1925, to which many parallels can be found. Manhattan is best used for applications which will not be placed too far from the viewer, as at too great a distance the fine lines can no longer be seen. It should be used exclusively for headlines in medium point sizes.

This is the redrawn and expanded version of an alphabet Rebecca Alaccari made back in 2009 as a bespoke font for a tourism agency looking to recapture the appeal of New Orleans after the hurricane Katrina disaster robbed it of its core industries. The brief back then was to "revive the unique spirit of what always made Nola great for new adults, which is the excellent combination of history, romance, food and music." No word of a lie, the brief actually contained "new adults." Storyville contains two interchangeable sets of forms drawn in the doodly, loose and organic way now conspicuously popular with today's young designers, almost every one of whom thinks they will get to design something for a boutique coffee bar somewhere. Well, this whole thing perhaps means freedom, youth, fun, happiness, good stuff like that. But just in case, a little caution doesn't hurt: Use this font only if you know what you're doing. We don't want to go back to the 1990s. Please. We were nearly done for by that exposure the first time around. The ligatures feature in this font does some pseudo-randomization, so the forms in doubled letters don't repeat. Serious fun can be had by also applying the stylistic alternates feature, or picking a letter in the middle of a setting and disabling the ligatures feature. Or various sequences of all that. If you don't like any of that stuff, just forget about it. Uh, wutever.

A ‘Leaden Sky’ is a dark grey sky without clouds. We don’t see too many of them here in Holland, as we usually have lots of clouds. Yesterday, however, the sky turned a sinister greyish green and it spewed out an an enormous amount of hailstones the size of walnuts. Leaden Skies is a handmade, all caps display font. I made it with a brush and Chinese ink. It comes with extensive language support and a set of alternates for the lower case glyphs.

They are furry balls of saturated fat, sugar and calories, so don’t go all out with your coconut eating habits! Of course, eating a bit of coconut now and then will not kill you, so enjoy! During the 1960s Hippie movement, a large amount of the rock and roll poster art was strongly influenced by the Art Nouveau period of the early 1900s. A poster for an appearance by The Doors at San Francisco’s Cow Palace Exposition Center (presented by Fillmore East and West owner Bill Graham) featured some wonderfully eclectic Nouveau-styled serif hand lettering. Modesto Initials had existed as a single font for several years. I recently added a fill font to put color in the Inlines. The Inline font still works by itself. The Fill font works alone too, as an ultra Modesto on steroids. They work best together. Modesto is a loose-knit family based on a signpainters lettering style popular in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. It evolved from the lettering I used for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Logo. The Modesto family was not planned. It just happened, a few fonts at a time over about fifteen years. In 2014 seven new Italic fonts and two Chromatic families were added. There is a downloadable MODESTO USER MANUAL PDF in the Gallery section for this family.

I really like creating script fonts. Why, I hear you say? Well, creating script fonts lets me be me. I am not trying to create classy, connected fonts for you to write love letters with: there are already too many of those available and quite frankly, I just don't like them. I prefer the messy script fonts - uneven, no real baseline and with a bit of splatter or rough edges for good measure. Daft script is one of these messy script fonts: it was handmade and it comes with two alternates for the lower case glyphs that cycle as you type.
