Victoriana arose from an inquiry from the Victorian Society for a Victorian font for their journal. As it turned out, no commission resulted, but interest in such a font was aroused in Andy Benedek. Basing the design on some woodblock letterforms, outlines of a basic set of characters were drawn. These, however, were modified to the extent that the final font bore little resemblance to the woodblock letterforms. PT Petroglyph™ was designed by Ekaterina Kulagina and licensed by ParaType in 2002. The type was created on the basis of petroglyphs (rock-carvings) that are known in 77 countries. They remained in a form of geometrical drawings in the caves of North Spain and France. Scientists claim that the radial spread-out of circles or center-pointed circles that are usually depicted show the development of solar symbolism at that period of time. Linea 72 is a typical seventies display typeface that was designed by Roland Hirter back in the phototypesetting days, when typefaces were really drawn by hand. In this static environment each work step took its time. With the decision to digitize this typeface his son Thomas Hirter also chose to develop it further with todays technical possibilities. That’s why the font now includes over 600 glyphs and ten stylistic sets, offering different stylistic alternates of several letters. Linea 72 comes in the two original styles Regular and Kontur.

This font was inspired by the well-known philosopher René Descartes' hand writing. In 1634, from Amsterdam, he wrote a famous letter to his friend Mersenne, a great scientist monk, in which he spoke about Gallileus works. The greatest part of our glyphs is based on this document. We have added some letters Descartes himself didn't use, like modern s and j (he used exclusively s long and i instead of j).
