MFC Nadall Medieval was originally designed by Bernard William "Berne" Nadall for Barnhardt Brothers & Spindler back in 1885 under the name "Faust Text" and later under the "Missal Text Series". While you could use its capitals to construct an initial monogram, this is not a monogram font, but instead a fully functional typeface for invitations and period lettering. This lettering style has been precisely recreated and expanded on to create a full typeface with a small collection of ligatures. Impacting and vibrant, Cordelia family draws inspiration from covers of 'cordel literature’, small booklets of popular story-poems that played an essential role on the folk-popular cultural life of Brazil.  Printed in coarse paper, usually with an woodcut illustration and lettering in the front, these booklets were sold on the streets, in marketplaces and town squares, hung in a cord - therefore the name ‘cordel’. The work of these humble printers and poet-singers of northeastern Brazil strongly served as source for acclaimed romances and movies and still inspires writers of all genres, movie makers, painters,​ musicians. ITC Gema is the work of Brazilian graphic designer Claudio Rocha. It was first written in a small size to keep the surface irregularity of a non-coated paper when enlarged for use as a display font," says Rocha. Many strokes do not quite join, giving Gema the visual effect of a stencil typeface, the distinguishing characteristic of the font. "Some characters have my own handwriting gestures," says Rocha, like elongated endings and angular shapes. Gema comes complete with an unusual variety of ligatures and alternate characters."
