As as a computer programmer, it is my job to stare at screens of text all day. For my first font, I completed a simple monospaced font, Debug, based on my own handwriting. Mickey Mono is much more ambitious: I wanted a humanist design - something with organic curves. It had to be clean and fresh. It had to have the advantages of Debug, like distinctive numerals (to distinguish between 8 and 3) and huge punctuation characters (so I could read complicated Perl one liners). Mickey Mono would be a good friend to me as I struggled through difficult coding tasks. It has a wide range of Latin Extended characters and diacritics, so it can speak French, Portuguese, and Ruby. Monogramma is a set of 676 beautiful and unique Monograms plus some doubles. There is one monogram for each possible letter-combination! For easy use I packed the monograms in 13 packets. One for two starting letter each. So if for example you look for the monogram "GW", you must choose the packet "Monogramma-GH" -- the G-combinations under the uppercase letters. You now have to type a capital "W" and Bingo you have the combination GW! Some letter-combinations have doubles, just check the numbers 0 to 9 if there is anything to be found. This font was patterned after a few characters on a genuine old 1913 small portable typewriter. It looks like those early typescripts, rough, irregular and eroded, suggestive of mythical famous authors, such as Hemingway, as well as “serie noire” movies or anonymous state employee working in a gloomy Kafkaesque office. It is a complete alphabetic full font. It can be used as web-site titles, poster design, or book editing. It may be preferable, if possible, when printing, to choose a pale color a little rather than condensed - dark grey instead of heavy black, for example - to give the best appearance and to benefit from the full details. The old typewriter character size is 11 to 12 points, but this font easily supports enlargement.

Broadveau is retro typeface that embodies the feel of both Broadway and Art Nouveau. The upper case characters are standardized, while the lower case letters contains playful curvy alternates that give the font its character. While most fonts maintain a common baseline, and vary in height, some of Broadveau’s alternates vary on the baseline, making for an interesting, yet surprisingly readable, textual landscape. This is a title case font only, which contains all the standard sub-255 (upper case) unicode characters. With the alternates it’s almost like 2 fonts in one.

Riccia actually started with the idea of a Rotunda a. Specifically the lower part of it. This element has a lot of character and I wanted to transfer it to a modern sans serif. The curly endings made it possible to spread that idea to the entire alphabet. Apart from those strong elements the proportions are inspired by classic grotesques. The weights are layed out in the usual way I create my families. 9 weights up to a strong Ultrabold, all with italics. Ideal for magazine and corporate usage.

When I released Halogen, I asked ‘Who doesn't want or need an expansive contemporary extended sans that has a sense of style and swagger… what if it had a lowercase, small caps and various numeral options… how could you say no?’ Go, click on the Halogen link and read on, if you're interested.
