The other day, I was thinking how time flies and how my kids grow up so fast. In the blink of an eye, they had turned from babies into almost-teenagers. They're not teenagers yet, but given their tantrums, it does feel like I have three teenagers in the house... ;-) Ogenblik, in Dutch, means: ‘in the blink of an eye’, ‘lightning fast’, or ‘for a brief moment’. It’s similar to the German ‘Augenblick’, which means exactly the same. Ogenblik was made with the same dried out marker pen that helped me create my font Castlerigg. I guess it had more than one extra font in it! Ogenblik is a bit of a grungy, yet quite legible and neat font. Comes with multilingual support.

Linotte is a rounded sans in 7 styles designed by Joël Carrouché. The techno sound of the 1990s, a personal computer, font creation software, and some inspiration all came together to inspire the F2F (Face2Face) font series. Alessio Leonardi and his friends had the demand to create new unusual typefaces, which would be used in the leading German techno magazine of the day, Frontpage. Even typeset as small as 6-points, in nearly undecipherable layouts, it was a pleasure for the kids to read and try to decrypt the messages. Letterforms in F2F Metamorfosi are parts of other characters that have been rotated to take on new meaning. For instance, an upside down V has become an A, a German ß has become the B, and a left parenthesis has become the C, etc.

Newspeak is a display typeface based upon Soviet architectural forms from the Stalinist period (spanning the 1930s—'50s). Stalinist architecture is now considered unsightly and without aesthetic merit, yet it has a strange beauty, hinting at an unrealised utopia (while its function was to buttress a brutal dictatorship). Inspiration was also drawn from the Cyrillic alphabet which, to kids growing up in Western Europe in the '70s and '80s, was a cipher for an alternative way of living – Cyrillic letterforms represented the exotic, familiarity-twice-removed universe of Eastern Bloc states. When you visited a communist country you were confronted with unfamiliar typography that reinforced your sense of alienation and unease that there existed a real, if imperfect, working alternative to consumerism.

The joy of pure geometry, revisited. Geometric typefaces are a staple in every typographer’s toolbox since the 1920s. It was a time when iconic faces such as Futura, Erbar, and Kabel appeared on the scene and turned the world of type upside-down. Inspired by those early giants as well as later epigones with a legacy of their own (such as 1970’s Avant Garde Gothic), Flink is the Identity Letters take on this genre, characterized by a clean and focused appearance. Royalbrick is a contemporary display unicase typeface. It is a part of upcoming type family — light and condensed style. The font was inspired by factory stamps’ typography on bricks made in 19-20 century on Russian manufactures — this kind of bricks was also called “royal bricks”. It has a unique image with “squashed” stems and dynamic expanding strokes, and there are also some kind of ancient Cyrillic’s vibes in it’s letterforms. It is an excellent example of combining national character with modern trends and expressive graphics. Royalbrick consist of extended Latin and Cyrillic, figures, two sets of punctuation (normal and "thin" with ss01), few ligatures and stylistic alternatives and a special set for letters with accents — ss02 named "Downstairs Accents". The font has 292 glyphs.

Professor Minty is a cartoon-inspired kind of comic font with a lotta bounce and a whole buncha spooky fun. Both regular and bold are based on Chank’s first fonts, Mister Frisky and Uncle Stinky. The Bold version is brand new in 2011, never before available. But here both of those fonts are combined into one extra-savvy font that does all kinds of tricks. It has many extra special OpenType features, like Swash, Contextual Alternates and Small caps and more. There’s even a “decaf” feature (Stylistic Set #1) which tones it down a bit if the account people think it is just too exciting. Works good for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day, oddly enough. Who knew those three holidays had anything in common?

Sans-Skript is a display typeface that is inspired by Javanese Script (or Sanskerta in Bahasa Indonesia). Javanese script is one of Indonesia’s many traditional scripts that were commonly used by Javanese people from mid-15th CE to mid-20th CE. Though not commonly used anymore, it is still taught and used in cities across East and Central Java. Sans-Skript translates the high-contrast, modular and organic features of the Javanese Script into the Latin alphabet. (Hence the not-script naming) The typeface is aimed to be used for large format prints, above 100 pt, and can be used alongside Javanese script. Typefaces that pair nicely mimic features of Javanese script, and Hatton by Pangram Pangram Foundry is an example.
