Chipperly is a brand new face inspired by the art of the Edwardian poster, especially travel posters. It’s good for clear ad legible headings which need a gentle and unobtrusive period touch, and is the latest is Greater Albion’s line of faces to explore the ‘small capitals’ idea. In its regular weight, Chipperly’s glyphs are semi-shaded within an outer outline giving a distinctive look, while the Heavy weight maintains the separate outline but is completely filled. The Light form is an outline alone. All forms unite period elegance with the modern need for clear readiility.

The hand lettered word ‘puzzles’ from the box cover of a 1940s set of metal “connected” puzzle pieces manufactured by the A.C. Gilbert Company was the initial typographic model, but some additions and changes were made. Instead of the right side of the ‘P’ being a semi-circle, it was changed to a more conservative ‘’squared’ look. After drawing out all of the necessary glyphs, the overall height of the characters was extended to make the letters and numbers appear taller and narrower. The end result is Narrow Deco JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Bigante is a big, giant superfamily with two variants: Solid and Inline, offering six weights and seven widths. Its constructed design interprets rounded corners as three 30° angles, resulting in edged terminals and twelve-sided dots. Vermont is an outline semi slab serif created by British designer Freda Sack. The serifs of Vermont are typical of slab serif fonts, having the same stroke width as the base strokes and forming a right angle to them. The strong figures of this font still manage to seem light and airy and the marked shading makes them seem almost plastic or sculpted. This class of font appeared at the beginning of the 20th century as an advertisement typeface, rose in popularity through the 1950s and phototypesetting in the 1970s. Vermont should be used exclusively in headlines and displays in larger point sizes.

Vialog is a large and versatile sans serif family consisting of four weights of roman with corresponding italics, each with small caps and Old style Figures. Designers Werner Schneider and Helmut Ness based the concept for Vialog on the forms in "Euro Type," an unpublished type designed by Schneider in 1988 for the German Federal Transportation Ministry. I just loved the design idea behind this font, but the original font had a lot of ugly artifacts - so I have completely redrawn ALL the letters, before expanding the character set. In 2019, P22 Type Foundry met with Milton Glaser (1929–2020) to initiate the official digital series of typefaces designed by Glaser in the 1960s and 70s. P22 Glaser Babyteeth is the first family released in the series. According to Glaser: “The inspiration for my Babyteeth type face came from this sign I photographed in Mexico City. It’s an advertisement for a tailor. The E was drawn as only someone unfamiliar with the alphabet could have conceived. Yet it is completely legible. I tried to invent the rest of the alphabet consistent with this model.” P22 Glaser Babyteeth was based on original drawings and phototype proofs from the Milton Glaser Studios archives. Over the years there have been many typefaces that borrowed heavily from the Glaser designs, but these are the only official Babyteeth fonts approved by Milton Glaser Studio and the Estate of Milton Glaser. The solid and open versions are designed to overlap for two-color font effects and can even be mixed and matched for multi layer chromatic treatments. Babyteeth includes an expanded character set to support the majority of Latin languages.

I loved the look of this font so much that I couldn't resist reworking it - although it probably had the most basic character set I've ever used as a starting point.
