Indipia is a caps-only misprinted font, ideal for display, titles, and headlines. With its split serifs, Vglee looks like it could be a copy of an “Old West” font but it is not. It was constructed by taking a motif and applying it regardless of consequences. Vglee does not have lower-case letters but it does include a full set of Western and Central European accented characters. Its distinctive, odd appearance can be useful in small doses for decorative purposes. The VgleeStar style contains only the ornament. It is intended to be used in layers with Vglee.

We began with the Victorian font Dotted, so-called because the counters of many of the letters contained a dot. We knocked out the dots, added a lowercase, and voila! a more useful type than the original without losing its charm.

Wasabi is one of the key ingredients in the Japanese kitchen. Also known as japanese horseradish, it is an extremely spicy condiment made out of the graded root of the Wasabi plant. Its spiciness is different than that of a chili pepper though, more like a hot mustard. The spicy taste shoots right through your nose, but does not last for long. Wasabi is traditionally used in sushi and sashimi dishes, soba noodles, and in a number of Japanese snack foods. Equally sharp and stingy, VLNL Wasabi Turbo was designed by Donald Roos. Despite its japanese outward appearance, the font has its origin in lettering found on a German book. It is hot, and edgy like a samurai sword. Wasabi Turbo will stand out as headline and logo!

Hardbop is a typographic system inspired by jazz, especially the style it's named after "Hardbop". It's also inspired by the prolific graphic work of Reid Miles for the covers of Blue Notes Records in the '50s, Japanese jazz album covers of the '70s and condensed and grotesque hand painted signs. Hardbop also references classic fonts such as Impact, Bebas, Din, Frontage and TT Trailers, the latter in the exaggeration of certain characteristics such as counterforms and endings. Hardbop design works for titles and wide spaces and was specially designed for covers and posters, where its intention is not to go unnoticed. In NailsNStaples the letters are made up of nails and staples. (The staples are not the staples one uses to join paper, but the kind one hammers into wood.) It is not often that one needs a typeface made of nails and staples, but if one does, there is a font for that.

Food Doodles Too is a 31-picture clipart font of food. Use them as dingbats or enlarge the small pictures and use them as clipart. Lots to choose from… from soup to nuts OK no nuts. Coffinated features letters on coffin shapes. This caps-only family has two sets of characters, with one on coffins that are flipped from those in the other set. The OpenType feature contextual alternatives (calt) prevents two characters from the same set being adjacent. The two styles, bold and regular, can be used in layers to add color. There are not a lot of uses for macabre lettering (horror? Halloween?) but Coffinated is available for those who do find a use.

DESCRIPTION With Skill I wanted to create something wild. Something that splashed the letters with life. To do this, I knew I'd have to break the barrier between analog and digital, so I took my best brush and started to play. Throughout the years as a type-designer I've met and become fan of many calligraphers. My belief that only a good calligrapher can make good typography (1) has become even stronger. I'm now absolutely sure that only practice improves the skill, especially in this field. So, with this in mind, I started a font which was a challenge for me because sometimes the gap between paper and screen can be gigantic. Skill is another of my attemps (2) to capture the spirit of the pointed brush, its expressiveness, the passions and fears of the artist. This font is about freedom. Freedom everywhere. Movement, velocity, passion. To achieve this, many alternates and ligatures per glyph were designed. Use it on magazines, posters, book covers, music albums, t-shirts, skates, tattoos. NOTES (1) This is mostly referred to script fonts, though text fonts made by designers with a deep calligraphic background have at least to me, an extra charm. (2) See my fonts Live and Indie. TIPS Thanks to Open-Type, the font gives the user the chance to play and get many wonderful results: In example, using the font with “discretionary ligatures” activated will give more life to the written word. Some letters will jump of the base, while others will ligate or not with the following (typical of gestural calligraphy). Adobe Illustrator is recommended. STYLES Skill is the most complete style. It has all the alternates and ligatures that can be seen in the posters and more! Skill Standard is a variant with no decorative glyphs. It has the basic alphabet and some ligatures for better legibility.
