The letterforms, especially the Script style are very self-indulgent for me, dare I say Hedonistic, and how I like to see letter masses taken to extreme contrast. The series unapologetically channels Herb Lubalin, but produced with a deliberate, contemporary twist. There is an intentional slyness infused in the letterforms—the extreme thick and thin lines flow effortlessly without becoming gratuitous. It’s always just enough, not too much. What makes the type series so appealing? The curves. When asked to describe the letterforms, most people unwittingly allude to the human form, using adjectives usually reserved for describing physical traits… creating all-too-familiar comparisons. Summerour has grown to accept this as unavoidable and reasonable given his acknowledgement of its influences and has provided nuances within the letterforms to accentuate that.

Nudista is a monolinear, geometric sans-serif based on the proportions of the Purista typeface, released in 2007. Nudista was originally conceived as a display type, but it is sufficiently legible even in text sizes. Thus, it suits short texts in corporate prints. Abdo Rajab is the second version of the font FS Rajab which was designed by the type designer Abdulsamiea Rajab Salem for Future Soft company fonts. The title cards for the production and cast credits were hand-lettered in a spurred serif type style strongly reminiscent of the Art Nouveau period, so instead of naming the digital version with some “tough guy detective” moniker, it was decided that Detective Client JNL was more appropriate. Organic versus geometric are two different universes that converges on nature systems and has its reflection on this new sans serif typeface. This style was produced by all early wood type manufacturers. The style is derived from the high contrast, thick and thin Modern style of Bodoni and Didot developed only decades previously. The extended variation makes the face even more of a display type and not at all suitable for text. This type of display type was used to compete with the new Lithographic process which allowed for the development of the poster as an artform unto itself. This new digitization by Jim Lyles most closely follows the Wm Page cut. The crisp outlines hold up at the largest point sizes you can imagine. This font contains a full CE character set.

Yes Dear is a hopefully humorous acknowledgement that men and women communicate differently — one of those Mars-Venus things. Women tend to talk about their feelings. Men hide in the cave. It sounds funny, but it can have serious consequences in people’s lives and their relationships. T. D. Jakes deals with the subject effectively in his DVD, He-Motions. We guys need to find our way out of the cave. Our women need to recognize what is going on and gently help us emerge from the cave. Men and women were certainly never meant to be identical, but it would be useful if we could learn to communicate our feelings in more healthy and effective ways. Yes Dear has a full character set, including accented caps. Two empty frames are provided at positions 135 & 137. This script font was inspired by the type most commonly used during the period 1300s to 1500s. It is a compromise between historic truth and contemporary use. We particularly thank very much the Paris Sorbonne University professor who gave us freely and patiently numerous and valuable advice and criticism for this work. This font includes “long s”, naturally, as typically medieval, a lot of ligatures as “ff, ffi, fi, ft, sd, pp...”, some special glyphs frequently used as abbreviation in Latin texts during the medieval era for replacing letter groups such as “qui, qua, que, quia, quam, per, pri, pre...”, but also a few final and initial characters and final addable loops. Instructions for use, added, helps to identify them on keyboard. ITC Avant Garde Gothic is a font family based on the logo font used in the Avant Garde magazine. Herb Lubalin devised the logo concept and its companion headline typeface, then he and Tom Carnase, a partner in Lubalin’s design firm, worked together to transform the idea into a full-fledged typeface. The condensed fonts were drawn by Ed Benguiat in 1974, and the obliques were designed by André Gürtler, Erich Gschwind and Christian Mengelt in 1977. The original designs include one version for setting headlines and one for text copy. However, in the initial digitization, only the text design was chosen, and the ligatures and alternate characters were not included. The font family consists of 5 weights (4 for condensed), with complementary obliques for widest width fonts. When ITC released the OpenType version of the font, the original 33 alternate characters and ligatures, plus extra characters were included. An isolated letters display typeface design which emphasizes the vertical stems and has an overall Arabian tales and oriental look and feel. All letters start with a prominent vertical stem shaped as pirate sword and ends in very narrow stroke. Banan font family has two members, regular and left-slanted italic styles. This font family design follows the guidelines of Mutamathil Taqlidi type style with one glyph for every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter, as defined in the latest Unicode Standards, and one additional final form glyph, for the freely-connecting letters in traditional Arabic cursive text. Banan employs variable x-height values. It includes only the Lam-Alif ligatures. Soft-vowel diacritic marks, harakat, are selectively positioned. Most of them appear by default on the same level, following a letter, to ensure that they would not interfere visually with letters. Tatweel is a zero-width glyph. Keying the tatweel key before Alif-Lam-Lam-Ha will display the Allah ligature. Banan includes both Arabic and Arabic-Indic numerals, in addition to standard punctuations.

ITC Magnifico Daytime and ITC Magnifico Nighttime are inspired by nineteenth-century decorated types and letterings. “Although they are designed as display typefaces, their use is not limited to large headings. Usually three-dimensional types are employed in gigantic headings in large posters, but I thought it would be interesting if such decorative types were used as well in small sizes, say at 12 point,” says designer Akira Kobayashi. “There were a few examples of small three-dimensional types used in cards printed in the nineteenth-century. I studied their letterforms carefully and became more and more interested in those small three-dimensional types. The outlines of ITC Magnifico are robust enough to endure use at small sizes. Sometimes the angle or the shape of the 'shadow' had to be slightly modified or even illogical, because the letterforms ought to look as simple as possible. The resulting types are fairly easy to read at small sizes, and I hope that at large sizes those occasional oddities will appear charming.”
