Totebag JNL continues the stencil font series from Jeff Levine originally inspired by classic lettering stencils of the 1940s and 1950s. This particular design is common amongst "painting stencils", the individual letters used for marking and identification. Some characters are solid shapes while others have the more traditional "breaks" in the letters.

Inside the pages of an untitled sign painting textbook (circa 1902) was an example of the classic chamfered sans serif alphabets used by tradesmen of the time. The Dutch De Stijl movement (1917-1931) sought to create an art which took abstraction to its logical extreme, as exhibited in the paintings of Piet Mondrian. Adagio is a spontaneous, casual kind of font but don’t be fooled into thinking just because it’s all uneven and painted that it’s a pushover. There’s a bold brush pen at the heart of the design as well as a full set of alternate lowercase characters if you’re looking for something extra.

Conundrum is a cool, rough brush font, quickly painted on paper, so it looks natural and organic. If you want a font character that is unique and different than others, Conundrum is worth a try. In the 1943 Three Stooges comedy short “Higher than a Kite”, Curly reaches into a box with the label “hand grenades” painted on its side and pulls out one of the devices. The bold, squared stencil hand lettering on that prop inspired Stencil Label JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Jacob Graffiti is a font inspired by graffiti. In order to reflect the feeling of spray paint, the beginning or the end of the characters show a sense of stroke. When designing this font, to add some fun, a pictorial ligature was specially designed: jacob. And it's on the smile face Unicode block too.

Inspired by Argentina and its culture, Alejandro Paul’s Candy Script captures the country’s spirit. It comes from the tradition of window sign painting, but its thick hand-brushed characters, with alternates for almost every upper and lowercase letter, have a personality all their own. Trencher JNL is based on hand-cut stencils spray-painted onto a vintage 1947 Cleveland Trencher acquired by the Marine Corps Mechanized Museum at Camp Pendleton, California. Restoration volunteer Brian Platzer supplied to Jeff Levine the images of the stencil markings - and they were quickly re-drawn and turned into a digital type face.

The inspiration for this versatile typeface came from both Art Deco and Military sources. It comes with both a clean geometric and hand drawn version so you don't have to get carpal tunnel sketching it out yourself. This typeface is equally at home stenciled with paint on a wall or used on a music poster.

I really like peanuts! My family and I often eat an Indonesian snack called Rempeyek, which is a deep fried, battered peanut cracker and I was probably craving one when I made this font. Peanut Crunch is a hand painted display font. It comes with some alternates and a bunch of ligatures for you to play around with.

Mark van Bronkhorst's MVB Magnesium is based on his impressions of a style of lettering often seen on early 20th century hand-painted signage. With its thick-thin strokes and angled terminals, MVB Magnesium is a warmer, less common alternative whenever one might use a sans serif in all-caps. It is available in two widths.

The City Burn, formerly called "The city burn night after night and we spray-paint the walls", was especially designed for Mad Skills Mag issue#3 Urban Flavour. It needed to be street, and urban, so I made a stencil font. It’s used by Fox5 tv for the rant TV show, the website infected.com, Fried chillies TV, and others!

In Handmade Font the letters are made of hands or handprints, something children sometimes do when they are set free with paint. Petroglifos is a dingbats font as a collection of pre-Hispanic petroglyphs of indigenous ethnic Venezuela, most of them are found in signs carved in stone or painted in caves of the pre-Hispanic period, each icon is an accurate representation of these ancestral signs. I was listening to some old Smashing Pumpkins albums when I created this font. The name comes from a song called *** You (An Ode To No One). Runaround Kid is a hand painted typeface. I used Chinese ink and a cheap Chinese brush to create the inky look. Comes with double-letter ligatures and a whole bunch of diacritics.

The 1920 edition of “How to Paint Signs and Sho’ Cards” by E. C. Matthews offered a number of examples of then-modern lettering styles for sign painters and show card writers. The inspiration for Cuba comes from a sign for the restaurant "La Flor de Cuba" on Bergenline Avenue in Union City, New Jersey. The typeface is inspired by our love of old hand-painted signs in butchers, and based on some very quick sketches using a brush pen to find what shapes worked. There is quite a quirky element to the type, as we tried to create the original sketches by rotating the brush pen to reflect the strokes of a paint brush. This lead to a horizontal stressing, which is most noticeable in letters like C, G, S and J. Sidestroke comes in 2 styles, both a standard solid version, and a pre-shadowed outline version. This can be outlined and divided in Illustrator to quickly create an alternate coloured fill for your letters. The lowercase letters have been designed to automatically horizontally align with any uppercase letters, which is a great shortcut when creating logos or other unique type layouts.

SAV Display PT is directly inspired from hand-painted commercial signage found around Savannah, Georgia. There is a strong tradition of hand-painted signs adorning small car wash stations, to beauty salons, to mechanics and restaurants. Currently a collection of about four to five painters account for the majority of the signs. This font was derived from 10 uppercase letters that seemed to represent the aesthetic thread found throughout the signs. There are no lowercase letters found in these signs, so the lowercase of the font had to be designed from scratch. I felt this added versatility to the font and its possibilities for usage. This font is strictly a display font. However, because of the apparent roots (intended or unintended) of the lettering to transitional/modern modulated fonts, it does read surprising well at smaller sizes.
