Raqmi Monoshape is a simplified version of the Raqmi font family with unified (non-varying) shapes. Work on Scene began some time after designer Sebastian Lester joined Monotype Imaging in 2000. Clean, calm, and highly legible — thus the design brief Lester set for himself. With Scene, he wanted to provide graphic designers and creative directors with a suite of fonts that would serve as a strong foundation for identity projects, incorporating what he had learned about on-screen and print legibility. Scene was developed during two years of after-hours and weekend work. The family comes in six weights with matching italics, there is a set of “semi-sans” characters to introduce more expressive word rhythms into headlines and blocks of copy.

Glodok is a single-weight display typeface. It is bold, heavy and fun to play around with. It’s eye catching but also blends well when in use. It is retro-inspired and strikes a nice balance between formal and playful. The name itself comes from the oldest Chinatown in Jakarta that is also considered the biggest in Indonesia, the place from where the designer took many inspirations.

Released in November 2003, Charminette is the Collection's first face with a consistent baseline and x-height. Intended as a display face to be used large, it's also surprisingly readable at smaller sizes. Charminette asks to be considered for invitations to formal parties and weddings, any occasion when proper manners are called for. Or, when proper manners need to be subverted. A toast to civility!

The February 19, 1923 issue of The Film Daily contained an ad for Mack Sennett's new Ben Turpin comedy entitled "The Shriek of Araby". No doubt this was a spoof of the popular Rudolph Valentino film "The Sheik". The ad tries to emulate Mideastern or Arabic typography via a standard Western alphabet. It somewhat captures the flavor, but its free-form hand lettering comes off as more of a novelty-type style. This is now available digitally as Desert Sands JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

While most script typefaces are slanted, Bryce is an upright script. Bryce can be used everywhere where an informal, handwritten style is desired, for example in signage and on posters. Croog is a rounded geometric monoline typeface, built in three weights with true italics. Inspiration for this typeface was derived from FF Roice, with desire to create typeface less spicy or unconventional in appearance and more neutral, calm and friendly to use. Squarish in proportions, monoline letterfoms gain more readability by having short rounded serifs and terminals. The typeface is ideal for use in display sizes, though is quite legible in text. Croog is released as OpenType single master with a Western CP1252 character set.

A deconstructive variation of ”Clarendon“ DéFormé was born out of the distortion of the time-honored ”Clarendon“ letterforms, in which the stems and thin strokes have been reversed. Thus, a typeface was created which will remind some readers of a Western typeface, and others of the ordinary typeface of a typewriter. Actually, it is still a robust Clarendon, which has survived ists disfigurement quite well. DéFormé, like its ”mother“, is easily legible, in spite of the inherent emphasis which one is not used to seeing.

Alter Aves type is the first part of AlterType project – the serie of small display typefaces based on letterings, left-off types and altered foundry typefaces. Alter Aves is display condensed sans-serif typeface with couple of geometric-round letters, serif-styled elements and flat brush strokes. The Ionian and Dorian Greeks colonized the west of it and joined the Carian population in forming Greek-dominated states there. Carians were described by Herodotus as being of Minoan descent, while he reports that the Carians themselves maintained that they were Anatolian mainlanders intensely engaged in seafaring and were akin to the Mysians and the Lydians

A pragmatic sans-serif which sits in the centre on the grotesque to geometric style spectrum. Equal measures of both letterforms create a neutral type family that is modern, functional, and easy to read without being too distracting. Details include seven proportionally spaced weights and four monospaced weights, both with matching italics, 750 characters with an alternative lowercase a and g, twelve variations of numerals with stylistic zero’s, Opentype features inferiors, superiors, fractions, case-sensitive punctuation, and language support covering Western, South and Central Europe.

Canciller is an elegant typeface designed by Manuel Corradine and Sergio RamÌrez that will give your projects a very exclusive and fresh appearance. Its style is a mix between the grace of calligraphy and the legibility of typography so Canciller can be used in a wide range of purposes. It’s available in six weights that go from light and delicate to black and powerful to give the designer the possibility of creating hierarchies and great contrasts. Its character set supports Western and Central European languages.

DT Portal: This stylised, partially serifed font, made with a slightly rounded square form, may have been inspired initially by old cathode ray tubes and computer screens. Although not intended to be purely a ‘tech’ font, it can have a strong tech feel to it. More suited to being a headline font than body text. It also appears to have a monospaced look to it, since most letters, (other than letters like ‘i, l and t’), do have the same width. There is some automatic contextual shape adjustment happening in places, to avoid taking up too much space, so contextual ligatures should be turned on. As is the case with most of my fonts, when given the choice, ‘metric’ spacing should be used in preference to ‘optical’. Initially this font was going to be called ‘DT Portal’, because its form was similar to that of a window or doorway. But due to other fonts already having that name, I chose to rename it as ‘DT Partel’, for no reason other than it is only a very small change visually.

Zin Display is a contemporary typeface designed for various situations of typographic usage. Characteristic feature is a large x-height and balance between neutral construction of letters (strictly vertical axis), dynamic open forms (opened terminals) and sharp instrokes, outstrokes and serifs. Another typical feature is a visually narrower connection between stems and strokes. The complete font family consist of three width proportions (Normal, Condensed and Extended). Every sub-family has 5 weights, ranging from Light to Black with matching Italics. Zin Display can be effectively used especially for display typesetting but works for longer text as well. It can be used especialy in magazine layouts and editorial design, as well in advertising typography, orientation systems, corporate identities and many other situations. Zin Display is a member of the Zin super family, which also includes Zin Sans, Zin Slab and Zin Serif fonts.

ITC Johann Sparkling is the work of Austrian designer Viktor Solt, a perfect imitation of the handwriting of an educated person of the 18th century. ITC Johann Sparkling is intended to close the gap between highly formal copperplate scripts and the scribbled look of 'true' handwriting," says Solt. "I am not very interested in highly formal and perfect calligraphy, but rather in quick, personal-looking scripts. Usually I start with some historical samples in mind, but I do not try to copy these sources. Instead, I incorporate them into my own handwriting. It takes up to two weeks, and many sheet of paper, before the respective script becomes my own. Of course, this would not be an economic approach for individual lettering jobs, but I can conserve the custom script for future use by digitizing it." ITC Johann Sparkling should be used in fairly large point sizes and its capitals only as initials.

The sheet music for the 1934 tune "Two in A Dream" had the title hand lettered in a bold type style that utilized some stencil and some solid lettering. Following through on the stencil portion of the design, Tuxedo Stencil JNL was created in both regular and oblique versions. The 1930s were the era of elegant supper clubs and night spots, and it was not unusual to find gentlemen all decked out in formal wear for an evening on the town, hence the font's name.

Galano Grotesque is a geometric sans in the tradition of Futura, Avant Garde, Avenir and the like. It has a modern streak which is the result of a harmonization of width and height especially in the lowercase letters to support legibility. Galano Grotesque aims to be a universal weapon not only because it works great in headlines, short and long copies but also because of its subtle neutrality. It comes in 10 different weights with matching italics and is equipped with a set of powerful opentype features including alternative glyphs, fraction, arrows, ligatures and many more. An extended character set, supporting Central, Western and Eastern European languages, rounds up the family. During the design process of the alternative glyph shapes of Galano Grotesque, the interest of creating a standalone version emerged rapidly. This was the birth of Galano Grotesque Alt. Not only because of the legible and unique character created by the alternatives, but also because this could be the small copy embracing stylistic companion to Galano Grotesque. In addition to the alternative glyphs, the height of descender and ascender was increased, supporting structure and rhythm. When finishing Galano Grotesque Alt, it turned out to not only work great in small and long copies but also to be a great performer in headlines and short copies.
