Project D is the fourth typeface released by DM Founts. It was inspired by the infamous graffiti atop the former Heygate Estate in South London, which I had passed by numerous times on the overground train years ago. Heygate Estate has since been replaced by soulless luxury flats, as per the gentrification agenda. The letters don't entirely match the graffiti as they were created from memory, but I thought such a profound statement should be honoured. Project D is best used for impact at large sizes, although it should scale well. Use it for computer interfaces, retro headings and anything involving defiance, espionage, infiltration and spy games.

Two years ago I went on a camping holiday in England with my wife and (then two) small children. The first stop was a nature campsite near the village of Bodiam in East Sussex. My son wanted to see a real castle, so I figured Bodiam Castle was the 'realest' of them all! He loved it, as the castle had a moat, crenellated walls, a bunch of towers and a guy dressed up as a knight. Bodiam font is a rough didone-ish affair. It is all caps, but you can freely mix upper and lower case. It would be ideal for book covers, posters and maybe even for castles. Comes with a treasure chest of diacritics.

(pronounced hor-hay) Some years ago my wife and I had our evening meal in a restaurant on what is called the northshore of Massachusetts. Of course, if you check a globe or map you'll see that the pilgrims needed a compass, it should have been called the eastshore as it's on the east end of the rectangle/hook we call the Commonwealth of Mass. In any event, the menu our waitress gave us was hand-lettered with shapes that I used to develop the 4 fonts called Jorge. When I brought the preliminary drawings into the office Steve Zafarana, a designer and cartoonist referred to them as Jorge's new design, the name stuck.

Apnea is a layerable type family consisting of fifty weights. It is an all caps font with a few lowercase alternatives (a, e, i, m, n, t, w, and y) thrown in for a more casual feel. The base letterforms are inspired by a painted sign I found in the garage of an old house I moved into years ago. All the hand-drawn elements were done directly in FontLab to keep them loose and playful without getting distorted or grungy. At its core Apnea consists of eight base weights (Base, Drop Shadow, Halftone, Inline Fill, Outline, Outline 3D, Shading and Shadow) that when combined, can make up the rest of the family. The idea for Terra Ignota came to me years ago as I was admiring a reproduction of "Amerique Septentrionale," a 1650 map by French cartographer Nicolas Sanson, given to me by my parents. The handlettering has a sort of rakish character, evocative of pirates or adventurers at a time of unbridled world exploration. I ended up putting the project aside, but the idea to create this font tugged gently at my mind until I simply couldn't ignore it any longer. The resulting typeface has an italic slant and a deliberate feel, in keeping with its historical roots. Useful for simulating old hand-lettered documents. Has a full character set (and then some).

Stencil Patterns JNL collects into one digital file a number of decorative stencil patterns from decades past. These charming illustrations were re-drawn by Jeff Levine using images of vintage oilboard stencils made over fifty years ago. While these are useful as stand-alone embellishments for any print projects, they can also be scaled and printed out onto card or acetate stock for hand-cutting as new stencil templates. A special note of thanks goes to fellow type designer and author, Leslie Cabarga. He supplied the bulk of the images used in designing this font file. There are left and right pointing hands on the parenthesis keys, and a decorative ampersand on its respective key.

Rotulo is a contrasted sans family which combines the Thick & Thin signpainter's style and some 70s feeling in a huge font family with 90 styles. A visit to an exhibition of Spanish movie posters by Jano was the beginning of Rótulo (Spanish for Sign) project. Classic thick & thin signpainter style was featured in many letterings of those posters, as it was a very common style in 60s and 70s Spanish design. Unfortunately, today very few Contrasted Sans are seen, something that was quite common years ago has fallen into disuse in favor of Helvetic monotony. Rótulo recapture all that personality, with an extense range of weights and widths to be used in striking headlines and short texts.

Since I designed Mommie you can see a lot of script typefaces with big contrast for big sizes. With Narziss I created a roman interpretation with the very expressive Swirls version. Glenda is again an italic script like Mommie. In the Regular the characters join and it looks like a neatly written sprencerian handwriting. But like Narziss it has got a Swirls version too. Every glyph and swirl is carefully designed to work in every connection. Use Glenda at only very large sizes.

Kaizena is a modern script font with alternates, final form, stylistic sets, including front and back swashes. It can be used for various purposes, and suitable for logo design, branding, greeting cards, stationery, wedding invitations and much more. The design of Kaizena nuanced Japanese style, but it is very feasible to use in modern themed designs. Touch Me is a Script hand-drawn style typeface—designed by Coto Mendoza—resulting from polyrhythmic exploration, sign deconstruction and altered calligraphic contrast plays with watercolour brush. Coto has been using these experimental calligraphy techniques when creating the catchwords for Macarons, the Boho Family, Bikini Season Script and Matcha Script and so forth. Touch Me was inspired by a character in a story written by Coto while attending a literary workshop with Ina Groovie in Santiago de Chile. The character is a tribal girl who lives on an island in the Caribbean. She is heir of ancestral knowledge and possesses wild beauty, very passionate and sensual: intense, strong and free. These features are reflected in the polyrhythm of the typeface's curves: an irregular baseline, variable x-height, different lengths of initial and terminal strokes (that sometimes expand and sometimes shrink) and amount of brush pressure that generates changes in contrast within the characters. This way, when composing, signs with stroke contrast randomly alternate with monolinear ones and with signs of altered contrast, thanks to the typeface's OpenType programming. The family, with more than 3,000 glyphs, provides a number of alternative characters, swashes, ligatures, initial and terminal forms, in short, a vast ocean of choices! ITC Schuss Hand and ITC Schuss Hand Bold can probably best be described as excellent all around scripts useful for a broad spectrum of advertising purposes as well as for those applications that benefit from a refined handwritten appearance. The characters themselves have a soft, almost “liquid” appearance which is enhanced by the subtle swelling at most of the stroke terminals. Spannerz is a font that is a bit of a chimera. It has the rather machined appearance of tools, particularly wrenches, from which it takes it's name, but it also possesses the characteristics of fonts used for science fiction, early era computers, and an unusual 1970's feel found in its soft, somewhat bloated, outer edges.
