Shelflife is a display typeface with some extras under the lid. It features all the Standard Open-Type features you'd expect, like Class Kerning and Ligatures, plus some other useful additions and of course accented characters for most European languages and others. In essence it's an easy-to-read headline font with clean lines and a bit of character. There's an outline version that can be layered with the standard version to give the shadow effect seen in the accompanying graphics, simplicity itself to do. There's boxed headlines for SALE, SPECIAL, DISCOUNT (20 in total) all ready-made, plus some which can be tilted at an angle, and done automatically - just easily typed in; easy-to-do bullet numbers; a choice of square or rounded dots on j,ffi, and so on in Stylistic Alternatives; and shorter alternatives for U and N with accents. Amitale (A-mi-tah'-lay) is the union of Amitale Book and Amitale Wide into a new 8-font book family in my continuing objective of designing a better font family for readability in booklets. My goal here is for a full range of styles from light, regular, bold, and black without the plugged counters and clunky feel of most bold fonts. In my use, personally. I do not use Amitale Book Bold. I use Wide for the bold and Wide-Bold for the black style. In many ways, Amitale is Brinar with bracketed serifs. Many people find Brinar to be an exceptionally readable and beautiful humanist sans. This new serif font family has many of the same characteristics. This is also the debut of my new OpenType features set for 2009. I wanted to create enough weights and widths to make the typeface suitable for a wide range of uses where a soft, stylish, and friendly look is appropriate. The Miss Mable type family consists of 44 fonts. The family encompasses seven weights across three widths in Roman and italics plus variable versions. Each font contains a complete set of characters for Western and Central European languages. Enzian is the fruit of a yearlong German Chancellor Fellowship sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Our hope was simple: to make something useful and beautiful out of something that most people consider to be neither. We were fascinated by the complex persona of Blackletter in Germany and drawn to its emotive ornament and its sensual, non-geometry. Two areas in particular, the long-standing rivalry and widely-believed inferiority that Blackletter had with Roman type and Blackletter’s relevance in contemporary culture, became the foundation of the project. The result is Enzian: an invigorated, original Blackletter of uncommon depth and hopefully, a bit of charm. It is warm and expressive, feminine and contemporary, while staying true to its hand-written, calligraphic roots. Geliat would be the youngest brother of Creo, retaining the letterform and proportion but has more geometric looks. This font family comes in two versions which has some different default glyphs. Geliat family has similar letterform with Creo, while the Alt version has common geometric letterform. Italic styles of Geliat were designed using semi-rotalic method. The round parts have 5 degrees italic angle, while the vertical strokes were made in 10 italic degrees. The result gives the styles look more circular than most geometric typefaces with the same 10 degrees italic angle. Ardentia is a serif typeface, supporting a wide range of Latin based languages and Greek (see TechSpecs). Ardentia was created inspired by most serif text font used in book printing. Smooth curves help the flow for long text reading. Ardentia is designed with medium contrast in order to have all parts of the letter’s shape well printable in book size printing, for high or low resolution printers, high or low paper quality. Other than book printing, the medium contrast also gives good visibility in display thanks to its clearness. I just returned from a short holiday in Japan. I stayed in hostels and small guesthouses and noticed a peculiar thing they all had in common: they love little notes, telling you where to go, what to do, how to use the microwave oven and when to check out. These notes were sometimes printed, but more often they were handwritten. I found that the Japanese way of writing roman characters is a little, well, unusual. The letters are correct, but they have that typical ‘Japanese look’ - most notably the a and A the b, d and g, the p and P and the t and T. I can’t really tell you what makes them look different, maybe it’s the proportions, but I do know that a Nippon Note is highly recognisable. So, here is Nippon Note, a highly recognisable, handmade font. You don’t really have to be in Japan to use it, but it will give your designs that extra cachet. The design of Sabon® Next by Jean François Porchez, a revival of a revival, was a double challenge: to try to discern Jan Tschichold´s own schema for the original Sabon, and to interpret the complexity of a design originally made in two versions for different typecasting systems. The first was designed for use on Linotype and Monotype machines, and the second for Stempel hand composition. Because the Stempel version does not have the constraints necessary for types intended for machine composition, it seems closer to a pure interpretation of its Garamond ancestor. Naturally Porchez based Sabon Next on this second version and also referred to original Garamond models, carefully improving the proportions of the existing digital Sabon while matching its alignments. The new family is large and versatile - with Roman and italic in 6 weights from regular to black. Most weights also have small caps, Old style Figures, alternates (swashes, ligatures, etc); and there is one ornament font with many lovely fleurons. The standard versions include revised lining figures that are intentionally designed to be a little smaller than capitals.
