Made up of sixteen individual weights and spread over three different optical sizes, Essonnes is designed to bring utility back to the Didot genre. It’s a common belief among designers that Didones don’t work for text. This wasn’t true in 1819 and it isn’t true today. Like its forbearers, Essonnes is a truly optical family—not just a study in adjusting contrast. The text and display weights have been designed from the ground up for their intended roles. This means that everything from the height of the uppercase & lowercase letters have been specifically tuned for their intended purpose. Like many typefaces, Essonnes started after falling in love with a piece of history. In this case, it was the eccentric forms of Pierre Didot’s Type and the evolution of the High contrast Didone throughout the 19th century. It was out of curiosity and love for these forms that led to the first draft of what would become Essonnes back in 2011. These unique situations—screens, modern printing methods, the previous 200 years of typographic innovation since the original design, my own life experiences—have led to a typeface that, while based on history, is not stuck in it.

Milescut is a display typeface inspired by some seminal covers the graphic designer and photographer Reid Miles created for the Blue Note Records between the 1950s and 1960s. Miles made almost 500 covers for Blue Note in this period, including some using the hand-cut technique that consists basically in doing vertical cuts in capital letters and numerals to create a unique style within the universe he created for Blue Note. Milescut is a tribute to this small “cut” 😬 in his trajectory within the greatest record label of all time. This idea came about while I was working on what will become soon a revival of a wood type that I fell in love with when flipping through a Specimen of the MACHINE CUT WOOD TYPE manufactured by The WM. H. Page Wood Type Co. Milescut has two extra sets of alternates that work cyclically when activated in your OpenType menu and lots of ligatures, pretty cool :)

A tessellation is a shape that can be used to completely fill the plane—simple examples are isosceles triangles, squares, and hexagons. Tessellation patterns are eye-catching and visually appealing, which is the reason that they have long been popular in a variety of decorative situations, such as quilting. Most of the shapes in TessieSpinners suggest a spinning motion. Most do not resemble real world objects. The TessieSpinners fonts contain shapes that can be used to construct tessellation patterns. It has two styles, an outline style and a filled or black style. The black style can be used to construct colored patterns. To see how patterns can be constructed, see the “Samples” file here. Most or all of these shapes were discovered/created by the font designer during the past twenty years in the process of designing maze books, coloring books, and a book about tessellations.(Earlier tessellation fonts from IngrimayneType, the TessieDingies fonts, lack a black or filled version so cannot do colored patterns. Make sure the leading is the same as font size or the rows will not line up.)

Parabrite arrives as a vision of the future. The future is brite - Parabrite - this is unavoidable now. The composition of Parabrite is found to be based on a set of technical behaviors defined from a set of four sub-glyphs and their interactions, similar to the make up of our D.N.A. (A,C,G,T). Likewise, Parabrite's block matrix is composed of four units (S,L,I,C). These units are only allowed to group together according to predefined set of mathematical rules, and affect each other symbiotically. The smallcase letters stand five feathers high, while the capitals add an extra two feathers width. Parabrite is extended, containing the full West European diacritics & a full set of ligatures, making it suitable for multilingual environments & publications. Use Parabrite when you dream of a future world. Since Parabrite is adapted to be quickly read by a wide assortment of electronic scanners, legibility to humans suffers a little, although robots report it is much easier on the eyes. They are happy to read it for you too, if you are having trouble.

Fifteen hundred years from now, a man will be selected to go back in time to prevent a catastrophic event which turned his world into a dystopia. Sent back in time, he was enveloped in empyrean fire, the strands of energy that make up time itself. Crash-landing near Astro City in late 1985, he learned how to master and channel the empyrean forces that had suffused his body -- finally learning to control his powers in time to prevent the destruction of the Space Shuttle Challenger, the event he had been sent to avert. He described himself to journalists as nothing more than "a Good Samaritan", and has continued to help his fellow man in Astro City ever since. John JG Roshell has also been struggling with the empyrean challenge of fitting all of Kurt Busiek's Astro City dialogue into balloons with the regular Samaritan font, so he created the Samaritan Tall font to help his fellow comic book letterers! Comenia Sans was designed in the framework of a unique typographic project for all types of schools. It is a complementary face for Comenia Serif, released by our friends at Storm Type Foundry. Comenia Sans has a lot in common with its serif sister: the height of both upper and lower case, the length of ascenders and descenders, and the general weight. This makes the two perfect partners which work well even when set side by side in a single line of text. Comenia Sans does, however, lack all serifs, ornamental elements and stroke stress variation. All these elements freshen up the feel of long texts, but for shorter texts use, they are not necessary. Despite that, Comenia Sans retains the soft, friendly character of its big sister, as well as a few tiny details which lend it its unique character without compromising legibility or utility. Open counters give all letters an airy feel and permit enough variation in construction. This is why the face works well even in multiple-page texts. All its letters are easily distinguished from each other, so the reader's eyes are not strained. Diacritics and punctuation harmonize with both upper and lower case. As usually, all diacritical marks fully respect conventional shapes of accents and they are perfectly suitable for Czech, Slovak, Polish and other Central European languages, where a lot of diacritics abounds. Similarly to the renaissance italics which refers to the cursive forms, Comenia Sans introduces novel shapes of some characters drawing from the hand-written heritage. This is most apparent in the single-bellied a, the simplified g, and the stem of f which crosses the baseline and ends with a distinct terminal. In the text, emphasized words are thus distinguished not only by the slant of letters, but also by the shapes of the letters themselves. All twelve styles contain set of small caps, suitable for the names, in the indexes or the headlines in longer texts. Legibility in small sizes under 10 points was at the center of designers' attention, too. This is why the counters of a, e and g are large enough to prevent ink spread in small sizes, both on-screen and in print. After all, the font was specifically optimized for screen use: its sober, simple forms are perfectly fit to be displayed on the computer screen and in other low-resolution devices. When used in the context of architecture, the smoothness of all contours stands out, permitting to enlarge the letters almost without limit. A standard at the Suitcase Type Foundry, each style of Comenia Sans boasts a number of ligatures, an automatic replacement of small caps and caps punctuation, a collection of mathematical symbols, and several types of numerals which make it easy to set academic and other texts in an organised, well-arranged way. For the same purpose, fractions may come in handy, too. Apart from the standard emphasis styles, the family also contains six condensed cuts (each set has the same number of characters), designated for situations where space is limited or the need for striking, poster-like effect arises. Comenia Sans is the ideal choice for the setting of magazines, picture books, and navigation systems alike. Its excellent legibility and soft, fine details will be appreciated both in micro-typography and in poster sizes. Although it was designed as a member of a compact system, it will work equally well on its own or in combination with other high-quality typefaces.

I've always been in love with fat didones. That’s the reason of Posh. In search of something unique, I started this family back in 2013 with the aim of creating the fattest yet readable bodonian typeface in the market: It was a challenge, because roman fonts need generous counters (or what some call white spaces) and taking them to the extreme of inexistence attempted against the construction of many glyphs. Ears, dots, terminals and serifs always need some extra space so I had to find the exact point of boldness to make characters which have those attributes work well in the middle of those which haven't. (1) After a while, I felt I was again ‘in my element’: Big contrasted letters, sexy and elegant curves, and that Lubalinesque feeling that characterise my fonts. (2) Words written with Posh are a explosion of elegance and sensuality due to the fact that its didone attributes were exaggerated. Since it’s full of alternate glyphs, one can change and choose them until a nice block of ‘‘black’’ is achieved. (3) To accompany the regular style, I designed Posh Inline, a font with the same quantity of glyphs than the regular one; an all caps style called Posh Capitals, and also a really playful Italic version. I hope you find this one delicious like I do! This font is dedicated to all who understand letters are not just meant to be read, but also to be appreciated in group and individually. Enjoy it. NOTES (1) In example, it can be easy to design a fat letter ‘n’ with almost no counter, but really tough to make a satisfactory letter ‘s’ with serifs to match that ‘n’. (2) Also, it wasn't my first attempt in fat didones. Take a look at my font Reina, made in 2012. (3) Posters above show many words with ball terminals that seem to dance above and below the words in order to fill those “undesired” blank spaces.

Old Kharkiv was inspired by the first half of the 20th century photo with a signage on the building of the Ivan Kotlyarevsky Kharkiv National University of Arts. During the development, the font has acquired unique features not from the original signage, for example, drops in uppercase were replaced with sharp serifs. This font contains the letters of all the main European languages, Cyrillic and basic special characters. Some uppercase letters (where allowed their form) have decorative elements (swashes) to use them as drop caps or initials. There are stylistic alternatives for some Ukrainian letters. Also, as a bonus, this font contains up to a dozen graphic elements that you can use in your layout.

Darcy is bold and exuberant. As an all-cap family (exception “i”), every letter has an artsy, handmade alternate. For the most joyful bounce, choose all lower or mix up the cases. For a more even baseline, go with all uppercase. Darcy Prints has gestural, organic motifs and patterns, including leaves, grasses, flowers and abstract shapes. TradaSerif is a new addition to the Trada family. Crisp and clear in appearance, it preserves the same formal spirit and the principal structural elements of TradaSans. TradaSerif offers a wide range of styles, from tenderly thin to thundering black. It also affords excellent text qualities and works brilliantly as a distinctive headline face. TradaSerif consists of 20 well-tuned weights and is well-equipped for advanced typography. It comes in OpenType format with extended support for up to 80 languages. All weights contain small caps, ligatures, superior characters, proportional lining figures, tabular lining figures, proportional old style figures, lining old style figures, matching currency symbols, fraction- and scientific numerals, matching arrows, and alternate characters.

Apnea is a layerable type family consisting of fifty weights. It is an all caps font with a few lowercase alternatives (a, e, i, m, n, t, w, and y) thrown in for a more casual feel. The base letterforms are inspired by a painted sign I found in the garage of an old house I moved into years ago. All the hand-drawn elements were done directly in FontLab to keep them loose and playful without getting distorted or grungy. At its core Apnea consists of eight base weights (Base, Drop Shadow, Halftone, Inline Fill, Outline, Outline 3D, Shading and Shadow) that when combined, can make up the rest of the family.
