A design experiment run amok! To some, the upper case A of this font resembles a diving helmet. If you put same on a guy in a gorilla suit, you have the really cheesy 50s sci-fi movie that gives the font its name. Both versions of this font contain the Unicode 1252 (Latin) and Unicode 1250 (Central European) character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

Ambition & Ink is a driven hand-drawn font with lots of customization options. It includes contextual alternates, stylistic alternates for a-z and A-Z, and ligatures. It can also easily be used as a unicase font by subbing the lower case letters that have ascenders and descenders (bdfghjklpqty) for uppercase ones. Monocto is an upright italic, clearly evidenced by the lowercase letters a, e, f, g, i, k, l, v, w, x, y and several capitals. On one hand, the design is inspired by an historical German running hand written with a pen angle of 45°, and on the other, by rational, utilitarian monospace types, similar to those designed for the mechanical typewriter during the Industrial Revolution. As the writing tool touches the paper, a double-square with broken corners is produced, which then, according to ductus, transforms itself into letter components that are either 90°-verticals or 45°-diagonals. The systematic geometry of Monocto offers unexpected design possibilites.

Obliterate is a self destructing sans-serif typeface created from old rub off typography sheets brought back from the brink of becoming landfill fodder. It contains four sets of capitals and one alternate set of numerals for a randomized look. Newsreel Caps JNL is a novelty caps-only outline letter with cast shadow set inside film frames. Although the design idea itself is not new, this version is based on lettering from a vintage piece of sheet music for a song featured in the movie "Fox Movietone Follies". The font is a wink and nod to Fox's long-running newsreel series called "Fox Movietone News". The upper case keys have black letters on a white frame, while the lower case keys have white letters on a black frame. A blank white frame is on the period key; a blank black frame is on the comma key. Use this font for individual initials, set the characters loose for effect or set them tight (as provided) for a continuous film strip.

Broadveau is retro typeface that embodies the feel of both Broadway and Art Nouveau. The upper case characters are standardized, while the lower case letters contains playful curvy alternates that give the font its character. While most fonts maintain a common baseline, and vary in height, some of Broadveau’s alternates vary on the baseline, making for an interesting, yet surprisingly readable, textual landscape. This is a title case font only, which contains all the standard sub-255 (upper case) unicode characters. With the alternates it’s almost like 2 fonts in one.

Young Finesse is a light, two-weight, announcement face with a large x-height whose characters contain only a few straight lines. It is based on the titling font that I designed for the dust jacket of my book Fonts & Logos. Its inspiration comes from Hermann Zapf’s Optima, a serifless roman text face, based on Renaissance inscriptions.Young Finesse italic has a set of elaborate swash caps that reference 16th-century writing hands. Both Young Finesse and Home Run include Richard Isbell’s “interrabang,” appropriately used for statements that are both interrogative and exclamatory.

NO! I don’t have a bearskin rug, nor a fur collar on my jacket. I believe fur should only be worn by its first owner. I have no idea why I called this font Bearskin: maybe I was influenced by one of the Viking novels I am reading - they’re full of Berserkers - but that name was already taken. Anyhoo, Bearskin font is a nice handmade all caps font. A little rough here and there, but with a lot of character as well. Bearskin comes with swashes, so you can have a ball!

There's nothing really disastrous (impending or not) going on in my life right now, but I have always liked the expression. I thought about it when I watched a news item about the recent storm we had in Europe. The news showed footage of a person narrowly escaping a huge falling tree. Impending Disaster font is certainly no disaster. I created it using my fantastic Chinese ink and a broken tapas skewer (I seemed to have run out of my regular satay skewers). The result is a slightly rough, comic book kinda font. It comes with two sets of alternates for the lower case letters (which cycle as you type), one set of stylistic alternates for the 'O' glyph (and all accented O's), an alternate ampersand, asterisk, question mark and exclamation mark and a set of alternate numerals. Impending Disaster comes with extensive language support, including Vietnamese, Greek and Sami - so don't come running and say you didn't have any options! ;-)

Be it a blessing or a curse, when a type designer sees a shape that could be interpreted as a letter, his/her mind is off and running. My parents loved to travel; Dad drove to Florida seven different years, winding on (barely) two-lane “highways” clinging to the hills of Kentucky and Tennessee. My brothers and I saw many of these letters along the way. Watch those Curves .

When we asked Dave Gibbons to name the typestyle he created for the sound effects in GIVE ME LIBERTY, he must've thought we were kidding. Back in the 20th Century B.C. (Before Computers) there was what was known as a "paper" office. Workers used typewriters, correction fluid and a drawer full of rubber stamps. Jeff Levine has taken twenty-six of the common phrases found on those old office stamps and created Stamp of Approval JNL. Use these images as they are, or run them through a filter for a worn or inked-up effect.

Toothpaste Two is a reworking of Toothpaste . The new font has all the features of the original Toothpaste, but is now even crazier, with the line twisting and turning over and under itself, making a tangled string of text bordering on the edge of legibility. As in Toothpaste, every letter and number connects and there are numerous contextual alternates and ligatures to keep it all running smoothly. This is a fun, decorative font. It would look good on kids' websites, scrapbooks, party invitations and the like. It works best in brighter colors on darker backgrounds, which give the characters a neon light quality. Also, try it with a stroke for a cool cartoony effect.

Eisley started as an experiment with creating brushes in illustrator. I began by drawing each letter and tweaking until each one balanced next to one another. I painted over 50 paint brush strokes to give a variety of different looks to the final characters. Strategically crafted to look as real and as spontaneous as a sign painter might paint up (although possibly running a bit dry on paint giving the end result a vintage and grungy effect). I have always been fascinated by the ‘Full English Breakfast’. A Full English usually consists of toast, baked beans, sausages, fried eggs, fried tomatoes, fried mushrooms and sometimes blackpudding (a kind of sausage made from pig’s blood). When I lived in England, my friends were always quite happy to stow away a big full breakfast, but I, on the other hand, could not really set myself to eating one. Full English is a hand made stencil font. If you own a pub and you serve breakfast, you could use it for your signs, but I guess this font looks good on anything that needs a bit of attention. For attention, it will get!

This font is inspired by typography found on old German shop windows. It is a script font, but instead of imitating human handwriting and the gestures connected to it, the goal was to come up with a new writing flow and stroke order. As opposed to handwriting Latin script letters, which normally means drawing each character and then connecting it to the next one, the strokes of this font run across multiple glyphs. Intentionally, the design aims to achieve a flowing transition between each glyph without making use of contextual alternates, taking the limitations of classic machine lettering as a challenge.

Astromonkey - here he is, all new, all excited to be alive! Astromonkey comes from outer space, where he has rubbed shoulders with the Star Trekkers, the aliens and Major Tom, who is still floating in his tin can. The font is a squarish all caps, with a different set of glyphs for upper and lower case (so they mingle quite well) and Astromonkey himself - disguised as the paragraph glyph. Enjoy.

This rugged typeface is based on letterforms in the Cherokee Syllabary, reputedly devised by a gentleman named Sequoyah in the early nineteenth century. In addition, Native American petroglyphs—some authentic Cherokee designs, some from other tribes—are included in several positions. The name of the typeface, however, is authentic Cherokee, and can be loosely translated as “Yo! Wuzzup?” Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

Muffin is a soft and rounded humanistic low-contrast sans serif based on broad nib writing. It comes in five weights ranging from Regular to Black. The friendly character of the font becomes even more pronounced in the darkest styles. Muffin is well suited for food packaging, menus, children's products, while Regular may be easily used for long runs of text. The font was designed by Natalia Vasilyeva and released by Paratype in 2017.

While designing a logotype for a client, she described herself as "loud and colorful." Thinking about some eras in typefaces that portrayed this idea, I instantly thought of the "Roaring 20s" and the Prohibition era where the cinema is starting to take off and the Italian mafia are running the bars. (Which is coincidental because my client has family connections to Al Capone.) One of the most iconic typefaces designed for these times was Broadway by Morris Fuller Benton in 1925. This typeface was the zeitgeist of Broadway, the big city, theater, and cinema, which can now be seen in use almost everywhere an old family run cinema is located. Using the heavy influences of the thick and thin contrast of this typeface, Maritote brings the charm of Broadway into the 21st century.

Earlier this year, my eyes fell upon a discarded wedding invitation on the sidewalk. A closer look at it revealed that it had at one point been victimized by rain. Some of the fancy script letters were not quite broken, but sort of melted and run-down, while the rest were still somewhat intact. That's how Scroll was conceived, as an idea for a script where thicks and thins blend to produce a wet appearance. Unlike most available broken scripts, the Scroll script was originally drawn in its own juiced context, and not based on any existing script. This font is great for atmospheric antiquity, deep natural poetry, still life captioning, gothic music posters and collateral, or horror literature and poetry covers.
