Roughcast is a kind of outside plaster, composed of cement and pebbles. It’s not the best looking plaster and it is estimated that in the UK, a roughcast outer reduces the value of a house by 5%. I am in the middle of renovating our old farm, but I won’t cover it in roughcast! Roughcast font is actually quite an attractive brush font. I made it with a brush I found hiding underneath my stove (where it had been for a while). I cleaned it and used it to make a couple of fonts, including Roughcast. Roughcast is best used for packaging, book covers and posters.

The name Dash Wisher is a wordplay. The letters of the font are also quite playful - you never know what comes next, when typing. There is no exact x-heigh, the baseline is jumpy, the descender and ascender are messed up...there are no real rules for Dash Wisher! But with all that in mind, it comes out surprisingly legible, which means it does have a wide range of use. Let your fantasy and imagination break the boundaries and Dash Wisher do the rest - or maybe the other way around! :) I've added both ligatures to substitute double letters and a set of alternate letters as well.

Columbia Titling is a titling-caps display family based on wide Clarendon-style wood type and industrial signage design from the late-19th and early-20th Century. Columbia Titling includes a small set of OpenType features, including both tabular and proportional figures, special superscript ordinal suffixes, underlined superscript alternate letters, and OpenType fractions. Columbia Titling can have a ‘period feel’ depending on its use, but is fresh enough to use in contemporary designs, like magazine headlines, invitations, or stationery. The typeface — released in four weights — takes its name from the historic S.S. Columbia, a steamboat launched in 1903. Lettering found on the ship’s wheelhouse provided initial inspiration for Columbia Titling.

Nyala is an Ethiopic font designed by John Hudson and Geraldine Wade. The Nyala font features Ethiopic harmonized with Latin characters for bilingual documents. The Nyala typeface is named for the Mountain Nyala, a native antelope found in the mountains of Ethiopia. The Ethiopic characters in the Nyala font were designed by John Hudson based on initial drawings by Geraldine Wade. Rutherford is clear, robust and authoritative, and reads well at small text sizes while also having the required heft for larger headlines. A wide range of weights makes it a versatile choice for magazines, branding, brochures and advertising. A slightly condensed obround serif with squared stroke terminals. The t, j and f curve around to harmonize with the terminals on the a and g, as does the tail of the Q. The italic incorporates cursive forms on the ends of the lower right and upper left strokes, and uses a single-story a. The techno sound of the 1990s, a personal computer, font creation software, and some inspiration all came together to inspire the F2F (Face2Face) font series. Alessio Leonardi and his friends had the demand to create new unusual typefaces, which would be used in the leading German techno magazine of the day, Frontpage. Even typeset as small as 6-points, in nearly undecipherable layouts, it was a pleasure for the kids to read and try to decrypt the messages. F2F Poison Flowers is a psychedelic trip back in time to the era of peace and love. Who would have ever thought that grunge or techno could be so groovy?

Indoo is a modular geometric design that owes much to the typeface designs of Theo van Doesburg (1883-1931) and the De Stijl principles of abstraction, simplicity, clarity and harmony. That inspiration, combined with the lettering of signage often found in the Indian quarter of Paris, led to the connecting block letter motif of Indoo. The text fonts are joined by a common horizontal stroke positioned at the baseline. There is an accompanying Ornament font for building borders that includes various stylized fleurons and the like. Each font has a drop shadow companion that allows you to build three-dimensional and multi-colored lettering.

Replay is a pure hymn to the classic typeface Caslon originally made by William Caslon (1692–1766). The typeface that bears his name, was made between 1720 and 1726. In 1739 he founded the Caslon Foundry which later become a property of Stephenson, Blake & Co., but remained an independent foundry until 1937. The typeface have been popular ever since it was made and still stand proud as a classic text face. MRF made detailed research, including versions from Adobe and Justin Howes. The end result is leaning more towards the original. Some minor »imperfections« are also incorporated in order to make the typeface more lively and old fashioned.

A contemporary slab-serif which revisits aspects of Robert Besley’s all-time classic Clarendon, designed around 1842 for Thorowgood and Co. and named after the Clarendon Press in Oxford. The original design was subsequently extended by Sheffield foundry Stephenson Blake in the 1950s into a widely-used, robust workhorse family. Albiona uses the inwardly curved stroke terminals of the same foundry’s Grotesque series, while rationalising or removing entirely Clarendon’s ball serifs, flicked tails and other eccentricities to make it more functional in contemporary settings. The family consists of five weights plus italics and a stencil, and includes oldstyle and tabular numerals. Its clean readable style suits both text and headline setting.

Triumphant, vigorous and strong. These were the keywords for the design of Girga, named after an Egyptian city in the Sohag Governorate. The power and strength of the Egyptian letterforms were balance with a few sans serif forms so the darkness of the text and the fatness of the overall glyphs could be kept. We never intended to design a revival of the nineteen century egyptian typefaces, but we included a series of features that can be found in many wood letters from that era. With five styles divided in Regular, Italic, Stencil, Engraved and Banner, Girga is full features that allow many design possibilities.

Where most fonts are available in varying weights, 52-Kfx is a family consisting of 3 heights; High, Mid and Low. Cullion is a new departure for Greater Albion, being a modern Fraktur, embodying future trends sch as highly stylised glyphs, a single case of lettering and highly evolved letterforms. At the same time it can trace its inspiration back to blackletter traditions, and is inspired by the sort of ironwork to be found in a medieval portcullis. The resulting typeface can sit happily in traditional, modern or futuristic design work. As the gallery images suggest, it does rather lend itself to work with a 'horror' theme, but it could have many other uses too-even in religious work. Cullion is particularly effective in poster headings.

A new font inspired by vintage hand-painted paper grocery store signs. The Doorbuster Collection is based on retro hand-painted paper signs primarily seen in grocery stores from the 1920s through the 1970s. We meticulously hand-drew each font, modeling the spacing and uneven baseline found in vintage sign painting. The purposely organic ascenders and descenders, along with a huge set of ligatures/contextual alternates to avoid the same letters repeating when paired, give it a real hand-lettered look. Herold is a bold Art Nouveau advertising face released by H. Berthold, Berlin, Germany in 1901. It is also seen under the name “Herold Reklame.” The design is attributed to Hermann Hoffmann by the Klingspor Museum. A herold (‘herald’ in English, ‘heraldus’ in Latin) is one who delivers proclamations and announcements. Medieval heralds are often pictured with a horn with which to get everyone’s attention prior to performing his function. His only PA system was his own voice. Left and right glyphs of a herald with horn may be found at positions 137 and 172. Herold is quite compact with a high x-height, just right for making -- what else? -- announcements.

I read something interesting the other day: in 1910 a cat called Kiddo snuck on board an airship and was found by aeronaut Walter Wellman - after he had already taken off in an attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean. Wellman and Kiddo spent 71 hours aboard the airship, but never completed the journey, due to engine problems and foul weather. Luckily, they were both rescued. It was a funny story, so I decided to name a font after it. Reluctant Aviator is a handmade font (pen and paper). It has a rough edge, some shaky glyphs and a lot of bravado. Comes with diacritics and swashes.

"Soup Du Jour" is French and simply means "Soup Of the Day" - may not sound interesting, but I can tell you that I have had several tasty soup of the day served. I wanted to make a font that resembles that feeling of not really knowing what you get served, but you got a feeling that it is something good! The font has got 6 different versions of each letter, and they automatically changes as you type - it makes your text organic and lively, and probably quite tasty too! :) "Soup Du Jour" is also a well-known quote from one of my favourite movies: "Dumb and dumber"

Oswald Bruce Cooper designed Cooper Black, an extra bold roman face, based on the forms of his earlier typeface Cooper Old Style, which appeared with Barnhart Brothers & Spindler Type Founders in Chicago. Copper Black was produced by Barnhart in 1922 and acquired in 1924 by the Schriftguß AG in Dresden, where it was later completed with a matching italic. Although Cooper Black appeared in the first third of the 20th century, it still looks contemporary and it can be found on storefronts in almost any city scene. The flowing outer contours create forms that are both strong and soft, making Cooper Black an extremely flexible font.

Aztek emerged as a custom face for an ethno-music festival, and gradually developed a more robust, geometric base. The original ethno roots can still be seen in some of the alternative caps, and the ease with which Aztek forms decorative elements and borders. There is also an alternative “Tall Caps” set, that goes alongside normal uppercase characters as if they were Small Caps. The font features Latin (extended to support German and Polish) and Сyrillic character sets. Though Aztek is an accidental face designed primarily for display work, it holds well at smaller sizes and can endure high ink gain printing found in letterpress and silk-screen processes.

The Old Turkic script (also known as variously Göktürk script, Orkhon script, Orkhon-Yenisey script) is the alphabet used by the Göktürks and other early Turkic khanates during the 8th to 10th centuries to record the Old Turkic language. Words were usually written from right to left. According to some sources, Orkhon script is derived from variants of the Aramaic alphabet, in particular via the Pahlavi and Sogdian alphabets of Persia, or possibly via Kharosthi used to write Sanskrit The texts are mostly epitaphs (official or private), but there are also graffiti and a handful of short inscriptions found on archaeological artifacts, including a number of bronze mirrors.

Low stroke contrast, generous spacing, and fine-grained weights from Light to Extra Bold make FF Hertz a workhorse text typeface which holds up well under today’s widely varying output conditions from print to screen. The quite dark Book style works well on e-ink displays which usually tend to thin out letters, as well as in print when you want to evoke the solid letter image of the hot-metal type era. Two sizes of Small Caps are included: A larger size for abbreviations and acronyms, and a smaller size matching the height of the lowercase letters. FF Hertz is a uniwidth design, that means each letter occupies the same space in all weights. This feature allows the user to switch between weights (but not between Roman and Italic styles) without text reflow. Jens Kutilek began work on FF Hertz in 2012. From a drawing exercise on a low-resolution grid (a technique proposed by Tim Ahrens to avoid fiddling with details too early), it soon evolved into a bigger project combining a multitude of influences which up until that point had only been floating around in his head, including his mother’s 1970s typewriter with its wonderful numbers, Hermann Zapf’s Melior as well as his forgotten Mergenthaler Antiqua (an interpretation of the Modern genre), and old German cartographic lettering styles. Jens likes to imagine FF Hertz used in scientific books or for an edition of Lovecraftian horror stories.

A characteristic of the Minea font family is the achievement of the calligraphic handwriting effect. In addition to basic, simple letter forms, it contains a large number of additional stylistic alternatives and ligatures that, by combining and changing without repetition, give the effect of calligraphic writing. P22 Klauss Kursiv is the first ever digital revival and expansion of the last face Karl Klauß designed for the Genzsch & Heyse foundry in Stuttgart before he died in 1956. Karl Klauß’s classical training in the graphic arts gave him solid chops to use as a springboard for design ideas that remained relevant among the countless trends fleeting around the turmoil of two world wars. By the mid-1950s, a kind of ornamental deco aesthetic was well on its way into mainstream design in post-war Europe, and demand was high for unique, lively and non-minimal ad faces. Klauß, a reliable designer with a proven track record of calligraphic faces, pushed the envelope on his own calligraphy and designed something that packages elegance in a boldness seldom seen before in luxury scripts. Quite a bit of talent is on display in Klauss Kursiv. In spite of the restraint this kind of design imposes on itself almost by default, the interplay between thick and thin never seems forced or challenging. Clear, natural strokes build a compact alphabet that demonstrates the wrist control of a veteran calligrapher. Creative nib angling segues into very clever start-and-stop constructs to make attractive forms that work quite well together, yet stand well to individual scrutiny. P22 Klauss Kursiv comes with a load of built-in alternates and ligatures in a font of over 470 glyphs, providing extended support for Latin languages.

Vintage Price Tags JNL comprises three sets of numbers in both ribbon, circle and star patterns which, when combined will produce point-of-sale price elements. The designs were re-drawn from examples found in an old wood type catalog, and are now collected in digital format. Ribbon-style numbers are found on the upper case keys. A through J have the large numbers, K through T are the smaller, underlined numbers. The remaining upper case keys contain the dollar sign, cents sign and the phrases "each", "for", "dozen" and "pair".
